Agree with guys above. Bags and suitcases take up a tremendous amount of room. We do a similar trip where we drive to Myrtle Beach. All of us also on full-size four-door trucks, F150 Fords and Chevy Silverados. If it's one of the shorter bed versions and you have a cover on it, you may not have enough room. Need at least the six-foot bed.

I can email you some Allstate Motorclub Coupons if you need any.

Also, just remember to ask them if they provide Loss of Use coverage and buy that. Normally your current auto policy will extend coverage for damage but most companies don't pay for loss of use which is a fee the rental car company may charge you while the vehicle is in the shop for money they lost as they could have been renting the car to someone else.

Van

We do it every year. Getting from the airport with golf bags and luggage was always the big issue. We tried a smaller car one year but it didn't work well at all.

Also, you always look good rolling one of those.

That would be great if you didn't mind. Been looking at priceline so far.

Checkout TURO.com it's like AirBnb for Rental cars. People list their personal cars and SUV's and it's generally cheaper than even a discounted rental. I did a trip to Minnesota in May and used it for the first time, it was great. I rented a subaru SUV for like 40 bucks a day, and they delivered to the airport free. You can rent all sorts of cars, including luxury cars like Range Rovers, Porsches etc... But many vans and SUV's that will do the trick. I am definitely using them for my next golf trip.

I am in charge of getting the rental for a golf trip coming up in about 6 weeks. I need room for 4 guys, 4 suit cases and 4 golf bags in the travel bags. Would a full size car or standard SUV like a hyundai santa fe be big enough?

How many days??????

If all 4 must travel together - Van or Mom-Van - Toyota Sienna is awesome comfort. Vans are a premium though.

Just another suggestion: for just a little bit more than a premium charge on a van - you might be able to get 2 mid/full sized cars or small SUV's - and you travel 2x2. More room, more freedom - and it may help keep friendships intact. You can switch around, each person gets a front seat, the car will hold "more" if there is only 2 people; and you have some freedom during the trip so you're not tied at the hip for X days in a row. :(

Depends on the # of days and the distance.

The rental would be 5 days. Flying to Portland driving down to Bandon, so it isn't a short drive.

We do a trip in November. 900 miles through some country where the weather can get pretty nasty. I usually try to buy a Suburban for the trip so I have the 4WD. The Suburban with the rear seat out is the best option, so much room. But the trip when we used the minivan was probably the most comfortable

If you're going to Bandon then it's a one shot deal depending on if you're flying to Portland (5 hours) or to Eugene (3 hours). If you drive it - it takes a while so comfort might be your best bet. By the same token you might not need the car while you're at Bandon.

If you take a car - get a mini van IMO. Everyone will be comfy with enough luggage and it's "only" 2 times to drive it.

Or consider taking a shuttle. It might be $60-75 a person but you don't have to drive and you can relax.

Whatever you do - enjoy Bandon - and have a wonderful trip!

I have a Ford Explorer and it works great for four people, clubs and suitcases. My wife has a Ford Edge it it would not work, so Santa Fe and the like is not the best option.

The Explorer is great, but the only reason we take it, is that the guy who had a minivan moved. A four door truck(F-150 or Silverado) would work as well, but be a lot less comfortable than the other two options.

Minivan. Based on past experiences with my annual 4 man. we have gone with anything from full size crossovers like Ford Edge, to Chevy Suburbans, and minivans. Low tailgate, sliding rear doors, and captains chairs in the second row.

Thanks for all the suggestions I got a really good deal on turo.com thanks for the tip linc. Got an explorer which my wife actually had one as a loner a couple years ago and they have a lot of cargo space. The guy will deliver and pick up from the airport for the price of what a full sized car would have been. Thanks robrey for the coupons but I just got a better deal on the other site.

If the travel bags are soft sided then trick 1 to save space is to take the clubs out of those bags.

Anyone else curious where this trip is headed?

I was thinking the same thing about taking the clubs out of the bags to be able to save some space. We are going to Bandon after thanksgiving driving down from Portland.

A Honda Odyssey with 4 captains chairs and rear seat DVD in the ultimate foursome machine.

We use one annually for our Myrtle trip. Two out of my foursome own one.

Very comfortable, tons of room (we bring a grill).

And the MPG's are amazing for the amount of weight rolling down the highway.

I keep looking for a decent used one to buy just to keep around for road trips.

I'll be cruisin' swag down the Vegas Strip next week with my buds in a rented minivan. Four ~50 year old dudes...only way to roll with 4 sets of sticks IMO.
