"Old Man's" Shoes?

I personally think the Ecco Tour Hybrid Wing Tip is one of the best shoes on the market. Some may argue they are old man shoes, but they'd be waaaaaaay off :)

Those Eccos are lookers. But I have always been wary of nubs shoes regarding longevity of grip, esp with slippery stances. So how long do they retain grip if you play ~70 rounds/yr? I can get about 4 yrs out of traditional softspike shoes when I replace the spikes every year.

One thing is for certain - any old man wearing alligator, ostrich, or lizard wing tips, or saddles, doesn't give a flying f6ck what some youngster in tennis shoes thinks is stylish! :blind:

Yes, and add in some bling to make the point even more clear. The summer outfit is more on the modest side.

yeah and if youre playing golf with your rolex well.. just add vinegar and water.

What, may I ask, is wrong with playing golf with your Rolex on? I wear mine every day, whether playing golf or not. Does not come off just because of golf.

Except where my heel strikes the ground my Tour Hybrids showed minimal sole wear after 70 rounds walking. i only get 100 or so rounds out of any golf shoes and the Tour Hybrid nubs make it that far with no problem.

I am a younger guy (30) and just picked up a pair of footjoy icon traditional .. i have played in basiclly every brand of shoe ( adidas, nike, UA,, Fj and Puma).. i have had the most complements from the guys i usually play with ( 25-45) since i switched to more traditional old man shoes ( all icons and dryjoy tours). I think the more classic "old man shoes" style is making a strong come back!

Dude, when you wear a pair of Classics made of exotic skins like alligator, you garner even more compliments and envy.

I love the bright flashy colors..

And I'm a completely boring, dud of a person. I just like the colors.

Just like many wouldn't wear what I like, I don't care for the windtip shoes. But I wouldn't come on a say someone has bad taste because they wear them. I'd say those are pretty well put together looks. Just not my style. Doesn't make them bad!

Some people must be a real treat to be around.

Actually even with me being an "old fart" so to speak ( I am 60) I like those shoes! I would wear them even though I also like wingtips etc. It sorta goes with my persona of WTH? is he going to do next? yep they would look good with my old dress blue slacks or even shorts with my whatever fits brand of golf shirt and one of my outdated old visors or even my fairly new Kirk Triplett style floppy hat. I do crazy stuff like that makes people especially tourists think I have a screw loose which I probably do

I like FJ Contours because of the way they fit. There are other shoes that are more appealing to my eye, but these are the FJ shoes that give me the best fit and comfort. In their infinite wisdom, FJ has discontued this shoe, and it will be replaced with a "new" Contour in January. Please don't screw it up ! Ever since shoe manufacturing has been moved to the far east, there has been very little consistency in sizing. I wear anywhere from a 9.5w to a 11n. My foot measures 10.5m, and on the narrow side of m. For me, it has become easier to get properly fit for a new driver than a new pair of shoes.

This, I consider, a superb example of classic golf shoes. They are FootJoy Classics, after all. Simple saddles, yet beautifully elegant and classy. How can anyone knock these as "old man's" shoes?

And those are "real" ones too with the leather bottoms

ok EP, I just gotta step in and alter your narrative on this "old man" shoe concept because it has been mildly flawed. and I'll focus on these above ^^^ pair of FJ Classics as the example. by a whisker I am old enough to remember watching/playing the last moments of the wooden club/wound ball era. a FJ Classic was NOT an "old man shoe" even then. these were damn expensive shoes wore only by the wealthy (and the wealthy can be the cheapest s.o.b.'s so even a lot of them didn't wear them) and the best local players you would ever come across (and fwiw EVERY dude playing on any professional tour at the time).

never belonging to a country club my point of reference is the the real working/hustling golf professionals. I grew up watching/playing these guys and they ALWAYS were wearing FJ Classics. this is the kind of guy who continuously had a great tan, never had a real job in his life, and always had a woman waiting for him at the bar when we finished. I forgive the millennial thinking a Classic is inherently an "old man shoe" because they don't know any better, they weren't there. but you fail to mention the typical 18+ handicap "old man" of that time actually wore the era equivalent of that cheap p.o.s. I posted in #17, they all did (and believe me younger viewers here, FJ and others made them then, and they were hideous). they did NOT wear FJ Classics at $200 dollars a pair. this drastically changes the argument that this above ^^^ is or ever were an "old man shoe". to the younger player, if their style ain't "the style" anymore I completely get it, but please don't put an incorrect stigma on them of any kind because clearly you just don't remember the 20th century ;) .

Very well put there Kenny Lee one for us "old timers" and heck no they were not there in the blades/persimmon/balata era :to_become_senile:

If I showed up for my usual game wearing alligator shoes I would get a reaction from the group. It would not be compliments, though. More like I'd never hear the end of it.

Just beat the tar out of them... golfwise... always shuts them up.

Follow up: So, North Butte, when you get to the 18th hole (or even better, the 19th) and add up the scores and you're 8 stokes clear of the rest of your group then ask this question, "Tell me again boys, how much do you like my shoes?" And ask it with a big sh*t-eating grin on your face.

Old style, new style, don't care.

Do my feet hurt after walking 5-7 miles of golf.

That's all I care about.

Addidas Adizero are ugly as sin and I can walk 36 a day with no discomfort. Hell, I can do it for 3+ consecutive days.

I can't say the same about Footjoy, Ecco, Nike....

Yeah, Footjoys may look better, but I'm crippled after 18 holes.

I wear Allen Edmonds for work and love them, but I'm not coughing up that much dough for their golf shoes.

What do you think of these? About time for new shoes. I've bought Foot Joys for a long time because there is no "break in" period. They are comfortable from the moment you put them on. (FJ, please private message me and i will tell you where you can send the check)

If I've ever owned a pair of shoes that would have fit after "break in period" I'd never know. If I play a round of golf in them and they're not comfortable I toss them. My feet are screwed up enough as it is. No way I'm playing with ill-fitting shoes and hoping for the best.

Maybe back in the day you didn't have any choice but to buy clunky leather welted shoes that chafed and pinched until you somehow managed to stretch them out. Glad I didn't play golf then!

I'm not a fan of black and brown together on the same shoe.

I was actually referring to the all black shoe. Not a fan of saddle shoes myself.

I wear flashy shoes and clothes so people will be LESS focused on my golf game. I carry a 6 handicap and play quite regularly to a 15.

So I gotta have something to take attention away from that
