Saw some new Callaway Woods last night (The Epic Thread)

If it's really sooooooooo much longer, how is it going to pass the USA COR test? I get better forgiveness which is great but I have my doubts about significant distance gains (especially for your pros) unless it just kills spin. Interested to hear more for sure.

I think it's just a matter of time before one of the OEM's develop a design (materials & technology) that will meet all current USGA club parameters but deliver a significant increase in ball speed and distance..........maybe Callaway will be the first. If this becomes the case and the driver passes COR and CT testing, I'd look for the USGA to develop additional conforming criteria that will define a max carry distance at "X" mph club head speed.

For me I'd love a driver that would increase my normal 235 yard carry another 15-20 yards. I don't think the men's pro game needs this type of advancement in distance. With the professional women, you have room to increase playing distance by moving tees. For the men there just isn't any more room to add yardage. I really don't want to see golf become a power game with typical winning scores becoming 25 under par.

Love it, but golf will still be golf. None of the "game changers" have really changed it.....

Calloway is positioning themselves nicely.

To be fair, Callaway is the only one that ever actually really did have a "game changer." If you were playing in the mid 90s, you'll remember that the Great Big Bertha added like 25 yards distance to everyone's tee shot overnight. And that was a real 25 yards.

I think the 975d was the driver that was way ahead of the competition, that is the last driver I can say that about.

I actually thought about that too. Those may have been 2 of the best drivers ever created.

The new woods look REALLY nice

I am very interested. Especially if the ballspeed claims are legit

Hit both new drivers and the fairway last week. I have always liked green and the green from RFE looks great with the carbon fiber body. Jail break technology plus paired with VFT for the face and is basically two stabilizing bars attached to crown and sole. For the regular Epic think Fusion with a better shape and sits extremely upright. That's made with your average trunk slammer in mind. Better players have the Epic SZ which sits much more flat and produced a lower launch and spin. Hit them both with my shaft and liked the feel and sound. Didn't have the new SZ fwy for me to hit but hit the Epic. Feel off the face is good and the head shape looks great. Currently playing alpha 816 so interested to see the Epic SZ fwy and compare.

So they are coming out with SZ fwys next year?

It would make sense to replace the 816 FW they had before...

They will probably will come in a 9 and 10.5 loft like their drivers now and previous ones.

You can always drop the 9 down to 8.

I know Jason Gore was playing a true 8.5 sub zero, which of course Callaway refused to release to retail. Also, I don't want to have to open the face angle wide open to reduce effective loft. I'd prefer to keep a relatively square to maybe 1 open face with a lower true loft on the face, hence the need for a lower actual face loft. It would be nice if Callaway would allow access to these lofts since they do indeed make them for Tour.

Dropping it down a degree slightly opens the face, so sitting at 8 might be he closest you can get.

Now that's under the assumption the head is the "actual" loft which we all know can be iffy through all oems

I met with my Callaway rep yesterday and saw both Epic divers. Wow they look really great!!! The black and green combo looks good. It reminds me of a combination of the GBB and fusion driver but not a triangular shape. I snapped a few pics and the rep said that I could show my coworkers but not to post them online yet.

Pure wrote this in the Rory M2 thread.....read the last line as it seems that he has already tested them.

"I 100% believe these guys are picking up ball speed with the M2 - both in the driver and the fairway. I also 100% believe they can see 5-6 mph ball speed increases on off center hits. I don't think that Nike drivers and fairways are as "hot as anything" on the market, especially at the consumer level. A good friend of mine is a Nike athlete and has been going through this equipment switch circus - at TPI the 917D2 and D3 beat his Flex 440 in ball speed by about 2 in average, the new Callaway Epic and M1/M2 beat that 917 driver by another 2-3 mph in ball speed."

So in the next few months we will have Steelhead Pro irons, the new forged wedges, and Epic driver/fairway. Whew, I need to consult my banker! $$$ The next thing you are going to tell me is the first Toulan/Odyssey putters are going to be released. My kid probably didn't need to go to college anyway..........

These will be paired with a new Rogue and a Hazardous shaft. The Hazardous shaft was actually grey that I saw. Didn't get any specs on them yet. Callaway is going all out on the Epic line. Expect to see an updated sliding weight track on the standard Epic.

The HZRDUS T1100 is gray, maybe they made a "made for" T1100?
