Isn't Jailbreak essentially the opposite of Speed Pocket, Active Recoil Channel, Compression Channel, etc.

Nope, nope .. from what I understand and saw, speed pocket technology allows the face to compress more easily while jail break technology prevents face elongation (from top to bottom) during compression thus resulting in greater compression from the back of the club to the face.

Unless I'm mistaken, I recall from the deleted video that the face of the Epic driver was thinner than the XR16 driver.

That's possible but the jailbreak technology as I understand it provides a rigid structure between the crown and sole (i.e. the two screws you see on the sole near the face) which increase energy transfer by preventing energy loss due to unwanted stretching of the face during compression.

From GolfWRX-

Both drivers appear to use a technology called “Jailbreak,” which is highlighted on the front of the driver’s sole. The technology is rumored to connect the sole and crown of the drivers, adding reinforcement that improves energy transfer.

From Gspy-

The driver features Jailbreak Technology, which we're told uses two rods to directly connect the crown and the sole (similar to the gravity core in BB Alpha designs). The story will be greater ball speeds within the confines of the USGA limits. You might say it breaks driver technology out of the USGA's jail. If it works, we're talking about legitimate breakthrough technology.

There is a ladies driver in the new epic line. It does seem a strange move as I don't see why women can't play the standard models with a fitting but it's happening.

Not sure that this would be the case, listed lofts are 9.5 and 10.5 which wouldn't make sense as lofts for ladies drivers.

10.5 and 13.5 have been more common lofts in ladies models over the last few years.

I guess it really is for Tiger. :)

Heads are up on the USGA website now. GBB Epic, GBB Epic Subzero and GBB Epic Star. Guessing the Star version is a tour head?

Looks like the Star head is a glued hosel.

Tigers new driver?

Gotta be, right?

Hopefully at least to entice tiger to look at the driver. Not very many bonded offerings these days. Im into it for sure.

Would be epic if the color on the bottom was victory red instead of green. Should of called it epic goat instead of star.

I called a retailer here in Australia who are about to list these on their website. They said the star head is a ladies driver. If you type "callaway epic golfbox" in Google you will see them advertising it. No pictures or description yet but that came straight from customer service.

$729 is about what I expected.

Callaway is a master marketing company. My bet is it's more hype than performance. I'll compare the G LS and the SZ and eat some crow if I'm wrong but I saw the Korean video and they were claiming +6 yards over the G....Funny thing is the LS beats the G for me by about 8-10 yards due to spin. Hope I'm wrong as I'd love to pick up another 6-10 off the tee with the magical driver...just not believing the hype as Callaway has proven they are Kings at it.

It's funny...when I read some post(s), I imagine yall puffing out your chest(s) saying "I'm going to show Callaway that their driver ain't nothing...

2017 looks like a great year for all of the OEMs (except Nike) and tons of new product is coming out. Can't wait to hit everything I have a chance to....the epic SZ is at the top of the list.

I think one of the guys said POW in Korean, probably.

What's Korean for "Cheeseburger!!!"?

There isn't a specific word for it, just the transliterated English to Korean.

치즈 버거 (Chee-je-beo-geo).

I wish I would have seen the post about the video sooner, then I would have saved the video (FYT downloader)^^ Though, I am sure someone else must have saved it, but I guess come Dec.1 more info should be available anyway.

Using my iPhone so I can't see where you are from, but you realize those are Australian Dollars, right? Seems aligned with ~500USD.

Lol thought the same thing. $729 AUS dollars is about $550 US dollars so right on par with what they are saying.

Anyone know if the Tensei white will be an upcharge?

Rule of thumb is that most aftermarket shafts in the +350 range will have an upcharge. Select shafts in the $250-300 price could be available at no upcharge.

Yes. I'm from Australia. Around 700 AUD is the typical price for the top shelf drivers when they first come out. Can probably get it at a slight discount if I shop around.

LOL...........the video was entertaining at best.........pure propaganda regarding performance.

For example; 2mph faster ball speed than M2.............based on what? What club speed, what contact location(s), based on one shot or an average over how many, build specs on the two drivers were what, CT of the EPIC head at 257 and the M2 at 238, etc.....?? I'd for one like to see Callaway disclose the test conditions and collected shot data.......probably won't happen as I've not seen an OEM support their performance claims.

I'm guessing the sample heads being provided to sales reps have been hand picked for high CT values and to match published specifications when available..........most likely assembled perfectly in Carlsbad.

This head does have my interest unlike the Wilson Triton. I'll look forward to hitting the Epic against my M2.

This wouldn't surprise me at all. The same thing happens when I have checked specs on OEM iron fitting heads when looking at new irons. Titleist and callaway routinely come in 2-3 stronger loft. I always recommend getting the specs off your fitting clubs if you are getting fit. Only go somewhere that has a loft and lie machine set up as well to compare actual lofts and lie angles...

New Bag in the making...
