Sky Trak or golf trip

Recommended Posts

I just had an add pop up on FB for demo Sky Trak units. They were right around $1,700 with the game improvement package.

It just got me to thinking, if I didn't go on my trip to Mesquite ina couple weeks I could buy one of these. Now it's not really something I am considering, but I wondered what other people think.

Would you buy one of these or take a golf trip?

Would depend on where the trip would be taking me and who I would be going with. And also when said trip could reasonably be rescheduled.

If it is a trip to a decent place with close friends odds are pretty good I would stick with the plans because they would be counting on me to do so. If, on the other hand, it was just me packing up and heading somewhere and cancelling would not effect anyone else who might be looking forward to both the trip and me being there, well that's another story. I could then cancel with a clear conscience.

What Medic said. Also, keep in mind that the "other" costs that are required to get Skytrak up and running in a meaningful way can add up quickly (think another 1-2k to do it right).

That said, having the option to practice at home is AWESOME, especially if you live in an area where you're stuck indoors all winter....

If the situation were different, I probably would take a second look at this.

It really isn't a viable option right now. Like I said, their ad just pooped up and got me thinking about it. But my tripmis already set and close, plus I don't have a room that really works for a setup.

But the price point is getting closer to being viable.

If it's an annual kinda thing, I'd go with the SkyTrak.

I've been fortunate enough to be able to get a little closer to the equator for some golf the last couple years, and while it has been really cool to do, and knock some courses off my bucket list, if I had the option, I would skip one year for a skytrak. Heck, if you frequent the indoor LM's in the winter, it's half paid for itself after one winter.. Not sure about everyone else, but an hour on a quality LM around here will set you back $40+, and if you treat it like a range in the winter, where you go once or twice a week, you're getting close to your mark after a couple of seasons.

Plus, if you're in the north, you can have your buddies over for some golf whenever you want!

I have a bit of a unique situation.

The indoor facility is about two blocks from my house. Two lower quality monitors and one better simulator. i have the code for the outside door and a key for the"golf room" ( its in a larger indoor baseball facility) so I usually go over either early in the morning or late evening when no one is there. I pay a yearly $225 membership and use it pretty much whenever I want.

And our regular golf is a awfully good bargain too.

We're however planning a move within the year to Denver. I'm figuring my time and money aren't going to go nearly as far there, the home monitor is probably going to be something I pursue a little more seriously.

  • 3 months later...

You have a good deal there at 225 yearly and you can go all you want. If I have that, I won't get the ST.

In my case, I am getting the ST this fall once our house is finished. I would choose a launch monitor over any golf trip if I were you. Just the idea of being able to practice every day. That would be really awesome. I can always save up for a golf trip.

I hate to thread jack, but this is kind of related. When discussing the additional costs associated with the skytrak, what are we talking about. I was going to purchase a Pro Putt systems putting green but now I am leaning to putting together a golf simulator. Have plenty of space. Here is what I have come up with so far:

Cage and Net

Mat

Skytrak

Impact screen for eventual simulator

What I don't know is what kind of additional software/hardware is required. The plan is to add a projector and computer at a later date. Am I correct to assume the skytrak has a driving range mode (I think that is a subscription based feature). Just diving into this and I'm kind of excited. Not sure I want to spend more for the GC2 at this point.
