Spalding Tour Edition Specs

Just bought a 2-9 set of 1985-87 Spalding Tour Edition irons. When I was looking to upgrade from my hand-me-down Power Bilt Levelume irons in 1987, I really wanted the Tour Editions. Ended up buying a set of Titleist Tour Models instead as the pro at the course I worked at was on staff and he did not carry Spalding. I can't find the specs and Ironfinder only has a few irons listed. I imagine they are similar to my Titleist with a 49* pw. Does anybody know the loft/lie specs? I'll contact Ironfinder as well.

I've them written down in one of my note books here somewhere, you might have to give me a day or two to find 'em .... I do have the head weight's on hand if you need them though.

51* on the pw, did not think it would be that high.

Am I remembering that there was a forged set of Tour Editions also? I may be totally wrong just seems like I saw some back in the day, regardless the cast version were pretty good sticks.

There were two versions of the Tour Edition. Three if you count the "S22" version.

As far as the blades go there were the Tour Edition, Tour Edition Custom Crafted and the Tour Edition Custom Crafted S22, which were all forged. I've never took much notice of the cast Cavity back varieties...

there is a set of proffessional looking spalding top flites missing the 7 iron at a near by thrift store. might pick them up just for fun

I remember those now OldTom, I had a set of bird on ball that weren't tour editions and I regret letting them go. They were in perfect shape I don't think most of the Irons had ever been hit!

i am still trying to id these top flites at the thrift. i know what the bird on balls look like and these have no markings except spalding top flite. very fine desighn these are . next time i go i will get a pic of them if theyare still there

I found the model of a complete set someone just gave me '63-'64 vintage, will try to post some pics within the next few days but they are pretty sweet with still original leather grips. Setup includes 1, 2 1/2, 3 1/2, & 4 1/2 woods, 2-PW Irons, and vintage bag with matching headcovers.

For what it's worth the Tour Editions all seem to come up at once on Ebay. Often you will not see any for weeks, they still command a relatively decent price. I have 3 sets all in rather average condition found locally which i've paid no more than $20.00 for...

i did as suggested and went to ironfinder and was able to ID the thrify store top flites as 80-84 models. i promised i would stop buying iron sets as storage-is running tight for them .lol sure thats a common problem on here. these might be too too nice to pass up and it would be interesting to try something different for a change. i had forgotten all about ironfinder as a pic/info source

In defense of the “cb” tour editions, when you look at them, the meat of the steel is not at the perimeter. All physics considered, theses may as well be mb blades with a sandblasted finish on one facet. They are legit sticks.

Years ago, before there were corporate tour vans at events. A fellow from Texas named Lew Gibson worked on most of the pros equipment out of his pop up camper. He told me on several occasions that he hated to work on Spalding clubs because many were bored crooked.

In the book sold by The Golfworks, the back pages of it are filled with length-loft and lie info on clubs as old as from the 1970's.

Recently rebuilt a set of Spalding Tour Edition Ltd, Cold Forged (cavity backs from about 1991). Lofts now are 3-21, 4-24, 5-28, 6-32, 7-36, 8-40, 9-44, PW-48. They have been bent multiple times over the years so not sure what the original lofts were.

so soft that when you hit the sweet spot within the diameter of a quarter, folk will comment the ball makes no sound off the club. They tell me the only sound is the club passing through the grass.
