Flow Neck Love

RH82

Recommended Posts

Correct me if I'm wrong but lately I noticed a lot more love towards the flow neck putters. I've been playing for a long time and only ever thought about double bend and plumbers neck shafts. A couple years ago I was messing around with what I believe was an White Hot Pro 6 which I thought looked amazing standing over the ball but haven't touched one since. I just blindly ordered a DJ slant neck model spider to actually put this style in play for once. The point is that I'm hearing more and more love for this style of putter and was wondering but it is that makes it so popular from somebody else's perspective as I had a good feeling with my short stint with one.

For my part, I think its largely an aesthetic preference...the flow neck seems to promote a smoother stroke, and while I doubt this is the case, it *feels* as though I can see more of the ball with a flow neck over a PN.

That said, I putt better with face balanced double or single bend putters. But I love the look of flow necks...and can't stop myself from buying them.

My first putter was a #9 and thats one of the things visually I always like about it. I never liked plumbers neck but wanted to try an anser style putter. Since ansers are limited in flow neck, especially for south paws like myself, I got used to PN. I'm loving seeing all the new slant neck/flow neck options coming out though...might just need to pick one up.

There are lots of OEM's working with/offering flow necks. One that still in prototype stage but hinting at being close to being released is Odyssey/Toulon with their Long Island model. Several hints have made their way to Twitter.

I prefer flow necks just because the amount of toe hang fits me where I can just naturally stroke the ball and it goes online. It helps to not have to think about the stroke and just be natural.

I'm loving that mallets are starting to come with flow necks as I can't use them normally if they have no toe hang. I just pull them constantly if I do a natural stroke. I need the forgiveness of a mallet, but until I find one with enough toe hang, I'll stick with the blades.

I'd suggest going and getting fitted. The SAM Lab really showed me that flow necks are perfect for me. But you never know until you do something like that. Just be sure to try a face balanced, some toe hang and lots of toe hang when getting fit.

Love my flow necks but they still have to have the right amount of offset as well, half shaft offset is perfect for me!

flow neck putterss are good for some and probably not good for others. As I understand it, for example, a plumber's neck full shaft offset will actually tend to make people go putt the ball more left than a putter with no offset, which I think is a characteristic of a flow neck putter.

Count me in the group preferring a flow neck putter. I love the look and how the putter flows with this long pipe flow neck. It is about 3/4 to 1 shaft offset. Here are pictures of my gamer.

Two of my favorite flow necks that have a permanent home.

Man o man. Loving that 009 you have pictured! That is a beauty. Wish I could get my hands on one of those without breaking the bank. I'm gaming the Newport 1.5, it gets the job done. In the process of changing the paint fill at the moment.

Here's a photo of lefty Circa. Shows off the stamps more than the neck unfortunately.

Anyone have an opinion about why the prefer a flow neck? I just read an article that correlates eye dominance with offset in that it effects where you play the ball in your stance. Check the link if you're interested (under the photo).

Last January at the PGA show Scotty Cameron himself told me that my stroke was much better suited to a flow neck, door opening and closing stroke

He also said to keep the grip thinner on this type of hosel design, works well with the release of the head

All this being said, I am putting very well w my X7M at the moment

Thanks Jules. It's been in the bag for almost 10 years now. Not as pretty as she used to be but hell, neither am I.

I think a medium length flow neck looks exactly as a putter ought to look. Just improves the lines and proportions of 'most any putter head design.

Unfortunately I've never found one I can putt worth a damn with! Pity. My usual plumbers neck style looks butt-ugly by comparison.

I have always used them and now have a SSB Okracoke with no sight line and tons of toe hang. I have had numerous offers from strangers on the course to purchase it...shaft is pitted and original iomic grip is still going strong!

awesome putter one putt blunder. what material/finish is that? is the sally surfer stamp a current offering?

Carbon with Matte black oxide and gloss black for the sightline. Sally is no longer an offered engraving. I believe I got the last one and it was cut with the sightline which I would have not ordered, but the black on black is subtle enough that I really like it now.

Love this thread. I'm currently looking for a flow neck with half shaft offset and a wide flange. I currently play a Nike Method Core 02W. I've been waiting for a good deal on either a Method Core 01W or an Odyssey #6, but a couple others here have caught my eye also.
