Video of Tiger Woods' opening tee shot at the Hero Challenge pro-am

If you look at his driver swing on the range (video is at the bottom of the original link in this thread), it looks really, really solid. I just hope he can keep up that type of tempo, balance, rhythm, and overall goodness when he's out there playing a real round.

There is no doubt in my mind that Tiger started feeling significant anxiety out there on the golf course as well as legitimate back issues (of course), and then those two things combined to just take him deeper and deeper into a funk.

My point is that regardless of how his back holds up, I'm more concerned to see how his driver swing holds up in a tournament. Is he flailing at the ball in a tense, anxious way like he has been for the last several years (his bad driving started years ago), or is he "in command" of his driver swing and delivering the club with purpose and fluidity?

I certainly hope to see the latter...

This is a very good swing right here. He does this every time, this guy may have an ok career.

Hah!

I'm no scholar here or anything, but is there a little extra deepening of the right hip going on the backswing or has he always done that?

That tee shot looks brutal being directly into the wind. For those saying that it looks like he's swinging a little slower... I believe you. But only because we know that a solid approach to hitting directly into wind is swinging a tad slower to reduce the spin and keep the ball lower. I bet his swing looked different on other holes not into the wind.. just as it will if he's hitting a cut or a draw. I really hope he goes back to the stock power fade and eliminates the left side of the golf course.

Did anyone notice how many tees he put in his left pocket? Or if he put on his left or right shoe first?

Just curious

You've gotta be kidding. Tees go in the right pocket as there is a glove on the left!! Unless you are a lefty like me...then, of course they go in the left!

He needs to shave that crap off his face.

C'mon man! Your boy DD (in your avatar) was known to sport a bit of facial hair from time to time. Besides, with the facial hair, Tiger can get on the sidelines of any Steeler game by claiming he is Mike Tomlin. Membership in the "beard club" has its privileges.

I think a guy who's won 79 times on tour and has been winning since he was wearing diapers can handle some anxiety. Not to mention, his competition isn't without flaws. DJ and Rory are streaky, at best average Tour level putters, Spieth is fighting a two way miss, and Jason Day seems to be made of glass. Very, very fragile glass. The key to beating Jason Day is making him spin once around quickly and then he's got vertigo for the next week (I'm joking, but as someone with terrible inner ears, it's true).

Make Tiger Great again.

Not my Champion!

Late for your Klan meeting ?

Hawk is having a little fun with me with the post. He is 100% class in every respect and there is not a mean spirited bone in his body. Hawk is a guy I'd golf with anytime, anywhere and I'm blessed to have a great friend in him.

Fair enough.

Still think he should move his left foot a little more toward the target so he has more room to clear laterally on the down swing.

But he's Tiger Woods he must have tried that and there must be a reason he isn't. To me still looks too much like the Foley swing with a lot of vertically movement on the downswing because he doesn't have much room to move laterally.

I think he'll be relatively "back" this year if his "back" and the rest of his body stays healthy.

Love Tiger and wish the best for him. It all comes down to his spiritual, mental, and physical state all holding up at a good level. He hasn't been able to put all three together in a long time. Hope he finds that time again.

I'm sure tiger will take ur advice onboard Hank harmon

Wow...is he finally "getting it"? Very controlled in-sync swing. Bravo.

He has a lot more release at impact than he used to. Just looks odd.

Watching it over and over he really is taking over impact and the immediate follow through with his right hand.

Doesn't have the extension after impact where he's continuing the flow of the club.

I don't like it. But if it's working who can complain...
