So I've talked a lot about how cool the Callaway guys are and totally neglected to give a shout out to the guys I went on the trip with. MTLJeff, QMany, Waterboy and Brizam are some of the funniest guys I've met. QMany can sure golf his ball as well. Greg729 and Hot Rod 71 were a ton of fun to talk to and were super nice guys but I think the MVP of the trip has to be Sean2. I talked a ton with Sean2 and got to play golf with him. He genuinely is too nice. We all benefited from the fittings a lot but the gains that Sean2 saw were really jaw dropping, I mean who gains 14mph in ballspeed? THAT'S RIDICULOUS!!

Thanks Paul, you are too kind, and I certainly enjoyed our conversations...and watching you hit a golf ball!

Sean2,

"No question that is part of it, but the club head is so solid. You know when you close the door on a Mercedes Benz or BMW...that solid feel/sound you get?"

That is an awesome analogy, I think many people know exactly what you mean.

I get that feeling out of my M1, and if I can still get that feeling AND get more ballspeed from the Epic well then it will obviously find a place in my golf bag.

Looks like the rest of us will have to wait and see.

Amaze-Ballz!!! Thanks for the pic.

I could be wrong, but I thought S.W.A.G. was an abbreviation for "Stuff We All Get". In this case, I wish!!!

Also, where is the lifetime supply of balls? Are they in the club travel bag? ;)

Those are special hats. If you press on the Chevron, it sends out a signal, much like the bat signal, and callaway sends a rep to the first tee to meet you.

Having hit both versions of the driver, can confirm that Sean's analogy is right on target.

So glad you were chosen for the trip, Sir, and that you saw such big performance gains.

I finally got caught up and was able to read to the end.

What an awesome experience for you guys! Thank you Callaway and WRX and everyone involved in this trip.

For the longest time I didn't think anything would knock my 910D3 out of the bag, until last spring when I got my XR16 and I thought it can't get any better than this! Now I'm wondering which "2017" Callaway's will unleash the Epic ho in me!

Not that that's hard ;)

So I wanted to share a little tidbit from last night before writing my big review. All the Callaway guys are so personable and fun to be around but Sean Toulon is on a whole different level. I got done playing on 18 at Torrey Pines and I sat down to eat our luncheon and Sean Toulon and Jason Finley sit next to me and we start chatting. I literally couldn't finish my meal because Sean was asking me so many questions and I was batting questions right back at him. We got to talking about a certain project that can't be named yet and started showing me stuff on his phone that none of us were even suppose to see or know existed. All while this is going on Finley is death starring Sean with a look that just screamed "why do keep doing this? They aren't suppose to know about this!" Sean literally couldn't wait to spill the beans on projects and he swears like a sailor while doing it. The conversation ended with Sean Toulon talking about a certain putter competitor by saying "I love him to death, we've been friends for 25 years but I want him to have to sell one of his Bentley's."

That is awesome... sounds like they treated you all like long lost friends! Sounds like they also have major plans in regards to Odyssey and Toulon Designs

Was there any mention anywhere of David Mills and if he does or doesn't have a relationship with Callaway/Odyssey?

I will follow you into the mists of avalon, if thats what you mean?

Was there any mention of why Callaway decided to move back into multi material Head designs?

I started working on my write up on the flight home today. Im about 3500 words into it and haven't got to talk about Monday afternoon or any of Tuesday. Still need to snap some pictures of my frankenwood.

I actually still need to unpack my travel bag. I had a few dad duties to take care of when I got home. So even though I'm excited to take things out of the bag, I think my kids were more excited to see me.

Great experience and also great getting a chance to meet everyone. It was great to go on a trip with guys that even though we are meeting face to face for the first time, you feel like you've known each other forever. I played with Rod at Torrey and I don't think there was ever a lull in the conversation. We always had something to say about something.

For everyone that followed along while we were there. We were reading while we had down time and discussed a lot of the questions that were posted. We appreciated the feedback and positive tone the thread had.

- I've never met him but reading Sean's posts give me the same vibe, literally too nice.

- This is why playing with locals from the board isn't weird IMO. 90% of the time the guys will be cool and I can put up with 1 round with someone who isnt, happens all the time anyways on vacation or as a single. Check the regional boards and get out of your comfort zone.

Congrats guys...looks like you're having a blast! Kudos to Callaway for doing this!

Now I need one of you to do me a favor. I'll be heading on an annual golf trip to the Dominican Republic on Feb 3rd and living in NJ probably won't be playing much until then.

Please find out if it will be possible for me to have a 9 degree Epic SZ in time for my trip?

This is very critical and of the highest priority...lol!

Thanks in advance and have fun!

Make room. 1/27 release date according to the teaser.

How nice of Callaway to release the new driver on my birthday! I guess I have to get it now! ?

My longest drive was something like 99mph swing with 2000rpm, 150 ball speed and 1.57 smash or something at 16 launch

Will confirm all of this

Again, it's great to hear about increases in ball speed, but by itself, it just doesn't paint a complete picture.

I remain skeptical that good for good yields improved smash. Based on the above, if you're hitting it on the nuts, it seems the expected average smash should be 1.49 with these new drivers. Unless MtlJeff can find a way to consistently replicate his 1.57 smash, his results are an anomaly. Perhaps the distance gains are more attributable to the shafts and expert fittings?

Here's a note about smash.

Trackman is GREAT at picking up the ball, but the clubhead is sometimes not calculated correctly. It's not a big difference, but when it happens, you'll get a smash factor that is "off the charts" like these.

Having said that the ball is VERY accurate and if the smash factor is 1.50+, it still means you had a great strike. #PoundTown

I just assumed Jeff's smash factor was a typo or mistake on his part. He really got a 1.57 smash? Is that even possible?

Hi Guys

I'm not an expert on smash factor or trackman results, so please hold off on the pitchforks. Rob added some color to it he knows more than me. I just wanted to give some numbers, after posting it i did get some explanations as to how sometimes it can get read wrong but i forget the explanation, i wasn't taking notes or anything. I was trying to get you guys live info that's really it, good intentions and all

I was the first group getting fitted for driver so was literally hitting to an empty range, i could see the balls with the "new driver" literally going further than my other one, i hit roughly 20 balls with each once warm. The trackman results could be disputed if 1.57 is impossible or there could be an explanation on misread. But the guy wasn't messing with the settings or juicing the monitor, i'd hit one with my Anser and it would go 250 carry, and than i'd hit the Callaway and it would go 265 carry. This is at the same length, same loft, with an Ahina in the Anser and D+ in the Callaway. Granted the Anser is an older driver but i was a bit surprised by that to say the least. When i hit other newer drivers at demo days i was getting 4-6yds extra.

If the numbers are being disputed, i could literally see the balls going further because there were no other balls on my side of the range, i was the first guy to hit driver. So i was gaining yards whatever the readouts were

I didn't even register the highest smash factor of our group FWIW, so i'll save that guy some of the questions and keep him out of it LOL

So just general question to guys reading, because we actually didn't discuss how we were going to roll this out once back (Hipcheck if you want to chime in)

This thread has been a lot of pics and talking about the trip which was awesome. But first and foremost we want to get you guys feedback on the stuff we hit, particularly the new driver and woods, but also putters, wedges....irons with different shafts and feedback on that etc etc....

I feel like that will get lost in here, and i am sure many of you have product related questions. I think all of us who were there don't want this to become us just making inside jokes about how awesome playing Torrey was or the like. We want to get you guys info on the products that is helpful or interesting

Should we start individual threads in the equipment forums on our bag fittings that will be just devoted to that? Do you want to see that? (Is that OK Rob or would that be too many open ones?)

Even just one breakout should be enough! Just as long as I don't have to go through 33 pages again! Haha!

I agree that the reviews would get lost in this thread. What about opening threads based on the type of club: one for 2017 drivers, one for 2017 wedges etc.? Then you Magnificent 8 could place your reviews individually in the relevant threads?

/Just my two-

Edit: Although this would likely be a pain in the neck to the Callaway 8, as they have to split up their reviews.

Really cool to see the guys who went on the trip bro out and make friends. Not sure if this has ever been done on a larger scale, but some yearly regional WRX events would be really neat. For me personally I'm one of the odd balls in my standard group of guys who nerds out on everything golf. Would be fun for the folks in our community to have the chance to gather every so often for a weekend of fun.
