M1 or M2 driver?

I decided to bite the bullet and made an appointment with a club fitter tomorrow afternoon. I will be doing an iron and Driver fitting. Hopefully this will relieve any doubts I have about my current and new equipment.

Ensure you are well rested, stretched and warmed up, don't try to kill the ball, swing as if you were on the course, it should be a lot of fun, then you will know for sure what works best for you and your swing tendencies, congrats and good luck

Thank you. I will try to post back on the experience soon after the fitting!

You bet my friend, can't wait to see how it all played out...

DRIVER: Callaway AI Smoke TD 10.5*, Ventus TR Blue 6TX at 45"

7 WOOD: Callaway Paradym 21*, Tensei AV white 75g S Flex, tipped 1" at 41"

IRONS: Callaway Apex MB 7-10, CB 4-6 -- DG TI S400

I think that's very wise. The money will be well spent in that you can get the right shaft and head setup correctly and you won't be chasing performance in the dark.

I bet most golfers could get great performance out of either head with the right shaft, but those might be different in these two heads. I was already playing the Kuro Kage TiNi 60 gram shaft, and have largely liked it. So, I was just going to try each head with that shaft. Much fewer variables than adding two or three different shafts.

I was fitted into an M1 when I was playing the best golf of my life, and when I am locked in it is a fantastic driver. As soon as my swing gets a little off, I'm spraying the ball everywhere.

Did not like the M2 in my fitting, but I've had pretty good success hitting an off the rack one my buddy has. Distance is down (like it was in my fitting), but the bad miss seems to always be a fade that stays in play.

I'm in the same handicap range as you, and I don't think my swing is nearly consistent enough for a fitting to truly matter. Definitely a worthwhile experience, and you should see better results than buying off the rack.

Get the right shaft and close your eyes and pick one. Very little difference in head to head comparisons in terms of distance. Forgiveness edge to M2. Adjustability M1 wins. Save some money and get this years model. The reviews of the 2017 show minimal if even minuscule improvement over 2016 models. In fact some will say this years M2 sounds a lot better than the upcoming 2017 model.

I fixed this so it works for every taylormade driver ever.....past, present, and future.

I'd wait and hit the 20xy lineup - its only a month away.

From what I've heard, the 20xy X1 will have similar forgiveness to the 20XX X2

And the 20xy X2 will have unreal forgiveness.

Now we can just use this as a guide to buy TM drivers until the year 2100.

I wouldn't limit this to Taylormade pal.

There's not a company on earth that's going to say their newest product is inferior to a prior generation.

Every new Titleist, Ping, Callaway, etc. is touted to be better than last years model.

The only reason Taylormade gets butchered over it is their "+17" or "ier" slogans, which I will admit were super corny.

Just having fun and it is what my mind said when I read the words LOL. It is everyone, I know, just having fun....

I got fitted by Frank Viola at Ace of Clubs today. I think that place is the only reason to not move out of state.

He fit me to an M2/HZDRUS Yellow handcrafted. My current driver is a Ping G30 lst that hit ok but knew I was leaving yards on the table. Ping has a heavy head compared to the M2 so I can't wait until I get the feel of the new combo dialed it. I imagine when I do I'll see even better results.

Just in the limited amount of hitting today testing this and tthat I picked up 6 mph of ball speed and 15 yards.

So I just got back from the Driver and Iron fitting. I started with the driver fitting and hit some shots with my Callaway X2Hot driver. After about 10 shots we looked at the shot dispersion, distances, launch angles, spin rates, and ball speeds. The software showed where I was and showed that I could be better and recommended a 12-14* launch angle and a 2300-2700 spin rate. Based on this info the fitter had me try the Titleist 917 driver. I tried it and it ended up giving me worse numbers. I used this driver with an inch shorter shaft as I apparently have longer arms than normal. After a few more swings the machine spit out some recommendations and I tried the M2 with the Kuro Kage 60g Stiff Flex shaft. This set up gave me exactly the rates the computer was suggesting I be at. I was getting 150-157mph ball speed, 2700 spin rate, yard carry. This was up from 230 yard carry with my other club. I was also getting a much better flight and control. All in all I am very happy with the fitting for the driver.

As for the iron fitting, the first thing we noticed is that I was using an 85g regular flex rocketfuel shaft on my RocketBladez HL irons. Based on my swing speed that was measured I was told to go with a few shafts around 105-110g stiff flex. I have always had trouble with 120 stiff flex shafts and told the fitter that I have tried the KBS 105 stiff flex as it was stiffer but not too much for my compact swing. He said that he would absolutely recommend that and the machine confirmed it. We tried the M2 Tour irons with the KBS 105 shafts and I was gaining 10-15 yards on my 7 iron instantly. He also found that due to my longer arms I needed to be 2* flat on the lie angle. Lets just say that with this setup the ball is just coming off the face like a missile. I couldn't believe the difference in such a short amount of time.

I am now a true believer of the fitting and will be ordering an iron set shortly as I purchased the M2 driver already today. I cannot wait to get out there and get some course feedback on the selection.

I was told when the new M2 comes in I can hit and see if I Wang that head instead although all the reviews I see don't see a difference...some have the M2 going further.

Here's what seems odd to me...why would u buy an M1 and take both weights, put them in he back track to make it as forgiving as the M2...wouldn't u just get the M2?

I'm a tinkerer.

I'll probably try it with several shafts when it gets here.

Some will probably work best with the normal weight configuration. I anticipate some will work best with no weights at all. I like the choices.
