Inside and outside the ropes

Aimnhit

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I have been a pro golfer for about 15 odd years. I have been reading these forums for a few years now but only just recently joined this one for some fun.

I have played some tour golf with a little success and also a little failure both inside and outside the ropes.

I wanted to start a journal this year so I figured I would do it on here for anyone to read as maybe some of it might help you with your golf or just even for straight entertainment with questions and banter ?

I truly am a golf nerd that loves the game more than life itself. Anyways any questions you might have along the way regarding anything that involves this great game we play I would be happy to answer..

Cheers

AH

This week I started preparing again for the new season ahead. I have made the decision that this new year will be the year of the short game. I felt that last year this wasn't up too par on where I believed it needed to be.

My first course of action was to weaken my left hand grip a little more then I had been this was due to the fact that I am using my leading edge to much and causing inconsistent flights around the green. By doing this it allows my bottom to be wider and easier to return the face and shaft back to my address position which I believe is the most effective way to be consistent. So basically I begin (at address) and then try to return it back to this position at the strike.

After about 100 balls I was able to create the feel that I needed and my consistency started to get better with much more flight control.

Next thing is my putting. After falling into the trap of getting comfortable for to long I believe my ball bostion was getting to far forward causing more of a hand hit and was catching it all off the toe making my speed to be off and missing putts to the right. So some ball position work is defiantly needed, man it was hard though. As some of you might know, when you move the ball back you will get the feeling that you are aiming right and it feels very uncomfortable.. some alignment work is in the works for the next few days..

Anyways cool story bro✌️

Any journal entries on your putting green drills would be greatly appreciated, particularmy how to make the most of 10 or so minutes pre round.

Yes sir.

I find one that works well is a 4 foot drill.

Grab 4 balls, put the4 at 12,3,6,9 imaging the hole was a clock. The goal is to make all 4 three times in a row or you have to start again once one is missed.

This is not only a great drill for making the short ones but it gets your mind into "game mode" and gets the bad thoughts creeping in towards the end allowing you to really identify your flaws under pressure.

Hope this helps

Did you play college golf? A lot of people on these forums seem interested in the path to College/Pro Tours - I'm sure any insights and/or stories about your journey would be appreciated.

No sir I did not play college. It was a desicion that sometimes I regret and other times I'm glad I didn't.

I turned pro very young as my parents didn't have much money and couldn't support me the way they would have liked I'm sure.

At the time it was very hard for the first couple of years as I would live out the back of a borrowed car, traveling from place to place with just enough money for gas. Showers in truck stops. Not eating for days. You know all the fun stuff while being a broke kid chasing a dream.

But in saying that it also taught me quickly how to grow up and made my desire to be successful even more deeper.

Thanks

AH

Thanks for the note. I started out playing some mini tours and lots of hustling to make any kinda coin I could. Once I had raised enough I made my way over to Europe for a few years to try my hand over there but to no avail. I then stopped playing for a number of years until finding my game. Since then I have been back on mini tours, with occasionally hitting the web and Pga. This year will be more of the same as last year but hopefully better.

Cheers

Thanks. I do something similar but don't start over if I miss one. Will try this weekend, but might allow for more than 10 minutes :)

Generalizing here but what scores to you have to shoot to qualify on mondays for Web.com events and PGA events? Do you need to have the "pro" moniker to play in those qualifiers?

Thanks for the note Moe

I would say that most times or in general you would be crossing the fingers if you shot 6 under. Web they have two courses both morning and afternoon fields with 12 spots available and on the Pga they have one course, 4 or 3 spots available with both morning and afternoon waves. The luck of the draw can help a lot.

Best wishes

There's no Monday qualifier* for the CareerBuilder, AH. The field is set through a fixed eligibility and you had to finish within the top 100 on the Web.com after the reshuffle to have a chance to get in.

Added: * unless the tournament has changed something starting in 2017

bought out by private equity.

capitalization, grammar and reasoning slashed as a cost reduction.

Solo

I just looked. You are right about the Monday. Sorry sir.

The top 100 on web? Not sure what you mean there. Maybe the top 10 on the guys that got their card through the web playoffs.

The field is never set till Friday before entries close. On average it moves 5 places between the Friday before and the Monday of.

Best wishes

Not the top guys who got a card. Here is that eligibility:

Finishers 2-25 from the previous season’s Top 25 Web.com Tour Regular season players using combined money earned on the Web.com Tour Regular Season Money List and money earned in the Web.com Tour Finals and the top 25 players and ties on the Web.com Tour Finals Money List at the conclusion of the Finals who are not already exempt.

bought out by private equity.
