Vega wedges vs Yururi tataki

Looking into getting a couple new wedges for the season coming. Currently using Mizuno t5. I heard great things about both and have read on some topics regarding Yururi but it was the non conforming gekku wedge. Just looking for info comparing the two. Kind of a pricey purchase. Mainly looking for feel and durability reviews. Don't care if it rips the cover off the ball if I only get 50 shots out of it before it's dull.

Yuri tataki of course :) ....... the grooves are very sharp :)

 

Btw, IMO, you need to test each one for the best feeling .... try simulating delicate chipping and pitching, you will find the best matching one.

both forged by Kyoei so feel will be very much the same .... all a matter of finish and sole grind....

The Yururi Gekku non conforming are awesome, have not hit the Vega's. The grooves are so sharp. Even with Rock range balls, my grooves were filled with the cover of the ball on each shot. That was the only down side. But they feel awesome. Point and shoot, spun the ball like crazy. I traded them because I couldn't afford to keep replacing golf balls after 1 shot.

What bh said. I really do want to at some ponit get some yururi wedges though. I think that is my next wedge move.....the gekku have been tempting me for a while...

So it sounds like everyone is leaning towards the Yururi. I would like to use them in tournament play so the Gekku wouldn't be an option even though everyone raves about them. I have enough club head speed where spin isn't a huge issue but I want it to check when I need it to. I personally like the raw finish in both the Vega and Yururi. The thing that only kind of worries me about Vega is the amount of options. Its a blessing and curse and no real way to test them. Where I live the courses are usually on the firmer side. I can take some pelts but I only play 8*/low bounce in my T5's. I've been eyeing the 02, 08 or 10 in the Vega. I might be leaning towards the Yururi Tataki since the options seem straight forward. New position at work will allow me to play a lot more this season, so is it safe to say they should last me a couple seasons?

I have the Yururi Tataki and the Gekku wedges. I prefer the Tataki, mainly because it is conforming. Yururi makes great wedges. Of course, it is important to match the sole grind to your swing, and the condition of the turf you typically play. I have heard good things about Vega, but haven't played them, so I can't comment on them.

I bought Vega irons and a 52 wedge VW-10 from The Golf Mechanic (GOOGLE search) in July fwiw. He was reasonable priced too. I would call him for advise.

Hit them all. Vega's options are exhaustive and hard to narrow down (although they are great wedges). Yuriri was second in my book to Miura. Just for what it's worth. I play 90-100 rounds a year and get 4 years out of my Muira's with constant groove cleaning and no range balls. Good luck with purchase. FWIW, Mizuno makes great wedges as well.

I have Vega VW-06 wedges and they are phenomenal. Very versatile, can open them up easily. Feel is unreal. Try them at the very least. From my understanding the VW-06 are the most versatile grind.

It seems like the Vega Wedges are easier to find for a better price than the Yururi. I like my T5's right now and had intentions on getting the T7's but wanted to know whats out there. Living in Syracuse, NY we don't have many demo days within a reasonable drive that would even offer wedges to try. I was loyal to Mizuno but bought a set of Wishon irons this month since I heard he made great irons and even though I've hit range balls with them at our golf dome, they are pretty great. Just makes me think 'what else is out there?' so thats why this topic got started. I appreciate all the feedback.

His clubmaker friend had nothing but contempt for Vega wedge heads.

Said they were just crap. Wasn't sure why, but it appears a batch came to him were way way out of spec.

The Vegas do look good. Maybe he got the cheaper V versions you see sometimes...not the raf or Vm?

Vega wedges are every thing but crap as discribed above.

I have experience with them here in the UK and they are made to very high standards.

The feel and sound of the club hitting ball merge on perfection.

My ownly issue I had was it was as sharp as a potatoe peeler.

Peeling the skins of my premium golf balls was a bit frustating but the spin impressed playing partners....... but was to much at times!

Over all I would recommend them for sure but like the vokey`s you can get lost and confused in how many differents grinds they offer.

I 2nd everything Endy said about the vw-06 wedges, play them straight or lay them wide open and they just work

I ended up getting a nice deal on a couple from a guy from the classifieds I went with 54/58 raw finish. I got the 08 design. I appreciate all the advice and reviews. The cost was worth the experiment. If I don't like them then I'm not out too much money

I've been able to play them outside for a couple of rounds. I love the feel and accuracy of them. The only thing negative about them is they shred balls on full wedge shots. I don't know if its the leading edge or grooves but full wedge shot and the ball is essentially done. Around the greens they have been excellent. I recommend them but maybe I need to play a harder ball like a NXT or Project A.

Glad to hear they are performing, thanks for the info. I'm going down this rabbit hole looking for new wedges and it is much deeper than I ever imagined.

I would recommend Mizuno for the mercy of golf balls. I probably will revert back if they don't dull down a little

I have recently bought a second hand Vega vg-06 60 degree wedge in mint condition. Without a doubt it is the softest feeling, most versatile wedge I have ever owned (and I've had more than a few). Close the face, square it or open it up - you get the desired flight AND it spins like crazy without damaging the cover of the ball, in my case, Srixon Z Stars. The best £31 I have spent on eBay in a long time and I'd recommend this club to anyone looking for a jack-of-all-trades lob wedge.

Tataki head is a little larger than the others which took a little getting used to st first. Now when I demo a smaller size like a vokey, I miss the larger surface area of the Yururi. Yeah along with the C grind gives max versatility. Feel is a hard, solid, compressed "punishing" of the ball, and spin is unmatched amongst confirming wedges. Finish is beautiful when new, but rusts over time and takes on a more "workman-like appearance." Highly recommended as long as youre not going for a smaller compact look in a wedge.
