Uh-Oh....

As someone who needs a bit lower spin, I now must hit this ASAP. I am a bit concerned about the head size, but the results are tough to argue.

Biggest issue for me is the SZ numbers are exactly the same as his numbers with jpx-900! And he had a heavier shaft in the Mizuno; 757 evolution II vs Rogue. ..roughly 12-18g I'd guess. Nothing to see here

Chris Ryan's swing is a thing of beauty!

I agree, he is easily my favorite youtube golfer.

You are actually talking about an uncut weight difference of 7 grams and the Evo is 1" longer uncut. The Evo also has a higher balance point so I would say you are talking a difference of 4 grams maybe once cut and installed. I have owned both of these and the shafts are not comparable, the Evo II provides substantially better performance for me.

So not sure if this was mentioned in here already or the other big thread about the epic, but I just heard on podcast from Callaway that in the big Bertha epic if you do custom and go under size on shaft length they are going to throw in 2 weights for the slider. They have choices between a 9, 11 and the 17 that come stock. Pretty cool that they are giving you an extra weight to get desired swing weight.

Did they mention anything about the SZ? I want a SZ at 44.5" if I end up getting one.

Ok..... so even if shafts are closer in wgt, Shiels was still "fitted" for Rogue and jpx performed as well....that's all

I would be very careful with that. You are talking about losing 6 swing weight points. No way in the world Cally will be able to build that at the swingweight you likely want. Now after I hit send, five guys will say "they should be able to" or "just add some lead tape." I'm just saying........good luck with that.

God bless you and God bless America for this information! For weeks as I have read these threads, all I could think about is how I am going to get the swing weight up when I cut down the shaft to 44.5"!!!! Thanks!!!

Actually he was fit for the Rogue in a completely different driver and any fitter will tell you the ideal shaft in one club may not be the best in another head. I don't believe he was fit at all for the Callaway.

Also, his initial review of the JPX 900 (carry of 272)was not even close to the Epic, only after "fitting" himself testing various configurations on GC2 did he find the optimal settings in the Mizuno and produce numbers similar to the Epic SZ. So someone could easily say he hit an unfit SZ in his first go with it just as well as a fitted JPX 900, though there are far fewer fitting options with the SZ. Even if he were fully fit for both with optimal settings and shafts all we would learn is how these drivers perform for him.

Either way, I don't care how you spend your money but making a decision based on someone else's results has never made sense to me. The best way to make a decision is to hit them both yourself and look at the results, I know I will. The F7+ and new M1 are on my list as well.

They called it animal style..... so maybe mention that if you do order custom

Well being lefty makes it quite difficult to have access to most drivers, so...... but when I do get a chance , I'll hit'em

But your defense logic of the epic doesn't make much sense nor the fact that you watching Shiels/crossfield and not putting ANY stock into results. Your mileage obviously varies

Maybe I'm crazy, and yes the graphics are the same, but not understanding why everyone was saying they look identical from the top.

It seems like a common theme for the 2017 models vs the 2016 models for Titleist, Taylormade, and now Callaway is basically the same distance but improved forgiveness in the new models.

Welcome to Ping's strategy for the last 10 years

Ping's has also been slowly lowering spin in the G lines. They really are on their game.

Those are the straightest shots I've ever seen Rick hit.

I think they're the straightest shots Rick's ever seen Rick hit as well.

JPX-900 was straight as an arrow too, his swing change might be paying off.

Might have already been said but the Epic SZ seems to be Callways version of the G LS. If this is the case and it is a lowish spin forgiving driver and sounds like most composite drivers then I am in. I went back to a G30 LS this week and love it but the sound is terrible.

same here, went back to a g30 ls but its up on ebay again , sounds like a baseball bat.

For the appropriate amount of hype - this driver appears to live up to it. Gaining even a couple of mph ball speed is difficult to do with todays technology.

For the hype some of you surrounded this driver with - it was impossible for it to perform that well. All I've read is "EPIC 4EVER" and "EPIC CHANGES COMING" and "THE EPIC THREAD".

C'mon - did y'all really think it was gonna go 350 yards with any swing, and just be the most epic thing ever?

All of this sounds great and makes sense until the OFFICIAL front page write up has what you are mentioning to the be G LS version (EPIC SZ) spinning more than the standard forgiving model (EPIC) in both weight up front and weight back positions.

This (EPIC SZ) doesn't sound like the advertised HIGH SPIN players dream... This is ONE sampling mind you - yet the OFFICIAL GolfWRX front page review.

And then the Youtubers are getting significantly less spin. Go figure. As always, YMMV.
