Ping AWT 2.0 Shafts

Ness is on point.. 105's are fairly high launching.

I think it's a great stock shaft offering. I think they feel great, I personally just hit them higher than I'd like and spin them a bit much.

I'm actually going to GG tomorrow to hit the AMT 2.0 in X. It's heavier and lower launching than the S flex.

Of course....I need another set like I need another hole in the head. So bad. Winter in Ohio is expensive for me..

I have the AWT 2.0 X in all of my irons. A great shaft and work very well for me. I like the weight and don't feel harsh as other steel x flex shafts. Ping done very well in having their stock shaft made by Nippon. Ball flight is also good.

Going for a demo next week and looking at the i200's. Currently play the DG PRO S300. But I don't really want to pay the $30 upcharge for these. Any recommendations? Mizuno optimizer says I need a firm/stiff tip shaft. Modus 105?

Modus 105 is quite a bit lighter than DG Pro. I think you should go heavier. PX 5.5 maybe, although those are not as heavy either.

When I was fit for the DG Pro, my second choice was a NS Pro 950 Stiff. Weird I know. But I had little problem adjusting.

Is the AWT just an NS Pro with the Ping label? Like a 1050 or something.

Last, is the Modus 105 tip stiff?

What is the "Power Spec Loft"? Is that an option you can order these irons at? Does it also affect the bounce?

Was fitted for AWT 2.0 and just ordered my I200's. I hit the lower and higher irons some at a demo day, but still interested in getting some feedback on guys who went with them in their sets. It is a noticeable difference, but subtle I'd say. Love to know if the lighter long irons are getting good height and if the scoring clubs can be flighted down like the technology is supposed to do.

Reviving an old topic.

I am looking at the AWT 2.0 (stiff) shafts but am somewhat concerned about the lower weight in the long irons. Has anyone tried these shafts with the cushin inserts, as a away to increase the weight?

FYI, I tried the AWT 2.0 in xstiff but those were too stiff so that is not an option for me to get added weight.

Have tried the AWT on different demo days. I hit the AWT 2.0 in Ping i200 and a year later in the i210. What really impressed me was that I could hit a 4i off the deck quite easily with both iron models. The lighter shafts in the longer irons really helped.

And, the heavier weight in the short irons and wedges helped me stay down and through the shot.

Some golfers really like the feel on this. Others, however, prefer the swingweight match up and down the iron set.

I have not been able to find the weight progression within the different flexes of AWT 2.0.

Ping does swingweight match the clubs when building with AWT 2.0's.

AWT 2.0 S has about a 10 gram progression through the shaft set.  I've not measured R or X flex.  Interestingly, the weight progression is the same amount, but in the different direction, compared to CFS.

N,

Interesting note. Does this mean that irons fitted with CFS shafts were designed so that all numbered irons had the same total weight?

Would this involve increasing head weights (long iron up through wedges) balancing out the decreasing shaft weights?

The Ping CFS shafts are descending weight, i.e. all shafts are tip and butt trimmed from a single blank. In the case of of the S flex shaft, a 41 inch blank weighs about 120g. This equates to about 3g/inch or 1.5g weight reduction for each 0.5" reduction in shaft length. When trimmed to 3i length (37.75" = 39" club length - 1.25" insertion depth), the shaft weighs about 110g. The 9i shaft is then 3" shorter and weighs 101g.

The AWT 2.0 shafts are ascending weight and increase in weight by 3g/inch or 1.5g per 0.5" club length decrease. If I remember correctly from the one set that I built with the AWT 2.0 S flex shafts, the cut shaft for the 3i was about 98g up to 107g for the 9i. The shafts that I used were pulls from another set, so I don't know the uncut lengths and weights.

Sets with constant swingweight can be built with either shaft type. Head weights increase in 7g increments from about 240g in the 3i to 282g in the 9i. With the CFS shaft a little more head weight would be needed in the shorter irons to offset the lower shaft weight, but that amount would only be a few grams. Similarly for the AWT 2.0 shafts, a little more head weight is needed in the longer irons to balance out the lower shaft weight.

Might explain why I hate the CFS but love the AWT 2.0’s.

Is the performance model for the AWT 2.0 based on the 950/1050/1150gh shaft series? I'm enjoying this shaft a ton but just curious

Anybody figure out how to remove the oem blue label without going at the shaft with some type of straight edge? It’s not really a sticker it’s like it was heat torched on or something. It’s so big I hate it and want it cleaned off.

Take a single edge razor blade.  Not a utility knife blade.  Scrape at about a 20º angle.  You won't do any damage to the shaft.

I launch the AWT’s sky high, but have excellent left to right dispersion with them. I have them in my i525’s. I used to play Nippon Neo 850’s in my Callaway Apex 19’s and thought I used to launch those high, but the AWT i525 combo is another level. The distances are the same, so I wouldn’t say I’m hitting balloon balls. The only negative was playing in the high winds in Miami on a recent trip. While I could work the ball in both directions with my new Pings, I couldn’t flight them down. Still getting used to them as I also had problems with the longest iron I carry- the 5.

Hello. Is the AWT 2.0 the same as the Nippon 950 GH?

Not at all.  950 is constant weight.  AWT 2.0 is ascending weight (the shafts get heavier as they get shorter).  The weight spread is about 10-12 grams, from 5 iron to PW.
