2017 Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x

Rickie's winning WITB says ProV1x, but doesn't say which year. Hmmm...

He is definitely playing V1 (supposedly 2017). You could easily see the black number on his ball several times today. At one point today I could even see that is was the number 4... I was kind of surprised it doesn't play a custom number.

Dang it, that's what I was afraid of, 2015xer switching to 2017 V1...

Rickie has always played the V1.

Going off this new chart, as a life long ProV1x guy, it looks like I'm a ProV1 guy now?

Im in the same boat...I still have 2 boxes of 2015 1x balls. But I am going to get a sleeve on the new 2017 v1 and see what happens. Will use my 2015 1x first and when they are gone make a decision.

Pretty much exact same boat. Although it would take a big and noticeable difference in performance for me to switch to 2017 V1, as I like the feel of a slightly firmer ball. Prefer a solid thump to a soft feeling. That and the price difference between 2015x and 2017 ProV1...

I'm actually looking for a ball that spins less than my current ProV1x - both overall and with my wedges. If our greens are soft ProV1x's just rip back for me. I've been testing the new TP5X and it's perfect.. same swings with the wedges and very close to the pitch mark and sometimes will even release a bit forward. Game changer for me as I don't have to manipulate wedge shots anymore and can go hard w/o fear of overspinning. I'm a big Titleist ball fan, so if the ProV1 is similar to the TP5X I'll go with the Titleist, if not, the TM might be my new ball. Firm/hard/fast greens I'll be using the ProV1x, but home course has been really receptive.

Have you tried the '17 XV'? I have the exact same issue playing over here in the Mid-Atlantic. Fairways and greens are generally pretty soft. I have pretty good luck with the '17 XV plus their durability is unmatched and they are great in the wind.

Like you, I'd rather play Titleist if I could though. Let me know if you get a chance to play the '17 V1?

The '17 V1 is legit. Played yesterday in 20+ mph winds, 50* outside, and it performed beautifully. My swing was crap, but the ball works. This model is much better than last year in terms of spin management. I can't speak to how it performs relative to any of the other new offerings though.

i have placed the X in several rounds now and i love this thing. to me this ball flies great off of the driver but has better feel (softer) on shorter shots. i find it to have good feel off the putter head as well.

i like it better than the 15 - although they are not supposed to be that different.

ok i am a sucker for anything new

No. I played the X for a long time and switched to the V1 last year. It flights better for me. My only complaint with last year's model is that it spun way too much with iron shots. I play at altitude, so a more manageable launch is better for me.

I've always played the x but I'm thinking of switching. Just sucks the buy 3 get 1 deal is before our season really gets going so I'm pretty much flying blind. Also picked up some srixon xv to give them a shot.

I don't pay attention to any ball marketing. Why? Because you will always need to give away something when settling on a ball. I am an 15ish handicap who struggles off the tee with maybe 92mph driver SS. I have a great short game and like softer balls around and on the greens. i dont particulary care for the V1x around the green, but off the tee it gives me the best results. Decent off irons and I can put up with it putting even though I think it feels harder. Ignore all the hype, bc any ball you choose you'll be making a tradeoff. Pick what will help the weakest part of your game, and make it work for the rest.

I don't know if it helps at all but I have been playing the V1x since it came out. The 2015 ball and me did not get along at all. I have absolutely fallen in love with this year's pro V1. The spin is controlled and ball flight is penetrating. I have always struggled with high ball flight and way to much spin. I have played a couple rounds with the 2017 V1 and V1x side by side. For me the V1 is perfection. I just placed my order with DD's for the buy 3 get 1 free deal. I will probably be ordering more in April.

Which 2015 model didn't agree with you? The 15 1v spun too much on woods and long irons for me...I played the 1x.

5 rounds now with each ball. My experiences: Off the driver, ProV1 noticeably launched lower than X and much lower peak height. For my 101 mph clubhead speed, X generally 10-15 total yards longer with higher launch, longer carry (a couple of the rounds were semi-wet, so you could see where the ball was landing). Both balls held their flight well. V1 must more punishing on mishits than X.

Irons - Again, noticeably higher ballflight and stopping power with X than V1. X was about 1/2 club longer than my standard, Chrome Soft, while V1 was about 1/2 club shorter than my Chrome distances.

Short shorts - Here was where I saw the biggest difference with my game. X stopped on a dime multiple times with 40-70 yards pitch shots. V1 typically hit, jumped twice then released minimally afterward.

I had historically been a ProV1 player. If I venture from my Chrome Soft this year, it will undoubtedly be to the X.

(Side note: I also played 3 rounds with the TM TP5. VERY impressed with all phases of the game from that ball.)

LH, It was the 2015 V1x that I didn't care for. I never really compared the 15 V1 to the V1x. I do know that for me anyway the 2017 V1 is better. Lower flight and just the right amount of spin. Plus I really like the feel off he putter. Soft but not mushy.

17 v1 is avery good ball..... I thought i had settled on the 330s but of course gave the V1 17 a try and they are quite similar... V1 though seems to be lower spin off driver ... but yet as much or more greenside spin.... feels good off putter too which has always been my gripe with the 2015 v1 and v1x.. not sure which ball ill go with yet.... but V1 is a serious improvement over the 2015 ball... i played the 2015 V1 most of last year for reference and the 2015 V1x before that until i grew tired of trying to control the wedge spin

I tried a sleeve of the '17 V1's today - testing them out for stocking up for the season. I vary between X and V depending. The new V1 is fantastic. Mid flight, solid feel on irons, putts well and really was amazing in the wind - barely moved off its line on drives into wind coming into and from the left - tracks very well - maybe the best wind ball I have played. Flight appeared low spin off driver, but, spun plenty on short game shots (less than prior ProV1's though). Loved the new V1.

The 2017 Pro V1 & Pro V1x is by far the worst golf ball I have ever played . The cover durability is poor at best. The distance is shorter with every club from lob wedge to driver with higher spin than both the Srixon Z-Star and ZStar XV. Callaway Chrome Soft and even the 2016 ProV1 and ProV1X. As a long time loyal Titleist customer i am disappointed to say the least.

Okay, FWIW I have been playing the new chrome soft and the Z star for the last year. My Titleist rep came in the other day and handed out 2 ball packs of the new V and X. I have played 1 round with each and I really love the new ball. I havent played a PV1 in 5 years or so and I will now.

I guess you and I will cancel each other out! LOL

^^^ Somewhat. What I am gathering is that allot of previous 1x players are moving to the new 1v model based on their on course experience and data. Problem for me is that the Titleist buy 3 get 1 free deal starts here real soon - and I havent even played yet so I am not sure what to do. My guess is that I will move to the new 1v model, but ideally I would like to get a sleeve of each and sneak out for a round alone where I can drop balls and see what happens.

Same dilemma here, but I've decided to go with the Pro V1 for this year's deal.

I've been a V1x player for several years, and I love the ball, but I've always hated the high ball flight, even to the point of trying to fix it with shafts. I received a box of the 2015 Pro V1 for Christmas, and I've played 2 rounds. The first was on a chilly day in January. I immediately loved the lower ball flight, but I felt I was giving up a lot of distance. Fast forward to February when we had a few nice warm days. I played the front 9 with my V1x, but switched to the V1 for the back. I saw no loss of distance, even when comparing to my playing partners. And I still loved that lower ball flight.

Based on that, if the 17 Pro V1 is truly longer than the 2015, I'm in. I still have enough Pro V1x around for the occasional soggy ground day if I feel I need more carry.

I'm in the same boat. I'm a current V1x guy and based on all the reviews believe I'll move to the V1 this season. However, I would like to try before I have to buy. I hop to get out this week sometime to make my own determination.

Perhaps I can help clear somethings up a bit. Below is a link to my review and several conversations regarding 2017 V1 models. (I have posted the link here before)

http://www.golfwrx.c...rackman-review/

For perspective, I played TaylorMade Red LDP, Penta, Lethal and occasionally Callaway offerings for the past few years. 2015 V1x was the first time I gamed a ProV, and I played it and loved it for two seasons... felt it fit my game perfectly.

Now, after much testing, I emphatically believe 2017 Pro V1 is the best ball for my game, period.

I've read most of these posts, but not all, so anyone who would like to answer this question without scolding me, I will forever be in your debt.

I've played the Pro V1x for two reasons. First, it seems straighter off the driver than the V1. Second, and less importantly, it seems a little longer. If those are my two main criteria, and in that order, should I continue to play the 2017 Pro V1x, or switch the 2017 Pro V1?

Trying like you to answer the same question - but if you liked the 2015 V1X, then you should continue to play the 2017 V1X since they are the same ball with a cover change. The major changes were made to the V1.
