New $500 Flightscope personal launch monitor (MERGED)

Recommended Posts

Question about the mevo. Is it actually measuring club head speed or is it estimating it based off of ball speed, etc?

MEVO measures clubhead speed, ball speed, launch angle and total spin.

Then, it calculates smash factor based off measured club and ball speeds.

MEVO estimates carry yardage and apex height. It does not measure lateral spin or detect spin axis.

^^^What about the window of measuring ball speed? Does it measure off the face, first 10 ft, longer. Does it matter? Or is ball speed always gathered from initial impact only

The setup instructions say settings should be set to "indoor" for flight of up to 40 yards.

Anecdotally, I've heard in outdoor mode it will measure up to 80 yards.

Just pulled the trigger on a mevo! I briefly owned an X2 and then a GC2 but could not justify having something at that price so I sold them.

What I miss is being able to look at normalized carry data that is more relevant than seeing where a range ball is landing with a 20 mph tailwind and 25 feet downhill. Dustin Johnson was recently on the NLU podcast and I heard him say that he always keeps his trackman on normalized, all he seems to care about is that carry number.

Agree. Could really be nice for limited flight range balls, too. And, maybe for those indoors, adjust for "Birdie" balls and other indoor practice balls. I wonder if Flightscope could add another gauge or two to their already-existing altitude adjustment to make it a combined "normalization" or "boost" adjustment. Example: 5,000 foot altitude = negates loss of a 20% reduced distance ball.

It would really be great if they had range ball normalization like the trackman does

So seems like Mevo COULD be useful with limited flight balls if you’re hitting them outdoors but using indoor mode to try to normalize to what a true distance would be. When I’m hitting limited flights balls at the range the ball seems to hit a wall around 80 yards

Something to tinker with if I end up pulling the trigger...

In the context of MEVO, discussions about limited flight range balls are interesting. I think, don't know for sure, there are different ways of limiting flight. Some do it with dimples (affecting spin) and some with core (affecting speed), and maybe others do both?

If true, I would imagine two different reduced distance range balls could have very different MEVO readings...

I bet that they'd work. I threw them in my Amazon wishlist. I'll give them a go if spring/summer ever comes to MN. I ended up buying a roll from FS when I got my Mevo and I still have plenty left but for $9, it's worth a shot.

I just got back from the range for the first time with the mevo, pretty happy with it. I wasn't super precise on setting it up, but it didn't seem super picky about where it was placed. Seems like ball speed is it's strong suit, as those numbers seemed the most consistent. Club head speed numbers varied a bit more, a few in there were a little low or high, but maybe more accurate placement would help that.

Used normal range balls, no metallic dots, and was pretty happy with spin numbers on full shots. Hit a few spinny drivers and the mevo seemed to catch those even without dots giving me spin in the mid 3000's. I feel like my ball speed numbers with driver were a little low, but I think that could be due to hitting range balls and losing a few mph. Hope to compare it with a GC2 with premium balls soon.

Just bought a mevo today. I am going to order those amazon stickers. Will let you know as I will compare the ones that come in the box vs. the amazon ones. It's going to be super sad when the stickers come before the mevo.

I used about 20 of them one day and then got tired of the process. I really don't think it matters unless you are indoors hitting good golf balls. Outdoors with egg shaped range balls I am happy just getting all the data and then uploading to my computer for statistical analysis :stop: ..... and then I have to tell my wife to leave me alone because I have confirmed I really do only hit a 7 iron 157 avg

Not sure why people get so het up about using the metallic stickers - I have never used them - As I mentioned earlier, I was in a big box golf store in the UK & the fitter asked to try my MEVO against their shop setup (GC2) - He was amazed when the MEVO & GC2 were virtually identical in terms of carry distance & SPIN - He repeated this trial in front of his Manager, who went straight off to enquire why their store was not selling MEVO?

At this time we do not have plans to release a version 2.0. I will make a post here if any of that changes.

Thanks! Really enjoying the MEVO. A few of us have shared some setup "tips and tricks" we have learned on our own or from your support staff.

Example: One poster said MEVO support told him there was no need to change the height of the unit when hitting driver, as selecting the driver in the app automatically adjusts for tee height.

I would just be curious to know if there are any "tips and tricks" you can share with us that aren't discussed in the setup guides?

Again, thanks for a great product. (IMO, you guys don't emphasize the unit's video editing capabilities nearly enough.)

If you stick a Bluetooth tracker like a Tile to the Mevo, could that interfere with the actual measure of shots or connection between Mevo and iPad?

So if I am getting this correctly you will need to put stickers on the balls to get spin and flight carry numbers?

So would be no use for having it at a driving range but could use on practice area at the golf club and even out on the course I guess if it's quiet could get a few drivers out there. Just a small practice range at the course I play at.

Hello everyone,

It is going to be tough for us to respond to every past question/concern in this thread but just wanted to let everyone know that we are now active on Golf WRX Forums and can answer any questions that you might have.

Let us know!

Is there an ETA for the "metallic marker" working for spin other than using the stickers? I remember seeing on an FAQ on your site that it was coming in future updates.

I like golf. A lot.

Hello - It seems that a few members have received varying guidance on setup of the unit and in some cases (mine in particular) the instructions given from flightscope support differ from the setup instructions shipped with the unit. Could you provide some concrete guidance how setting up the unit? I'm sure this would be helpful for many users and may solve some issues that some have experienced.

For example, for outdoor use how far should the unit be placed from the ball? Does the height need to be increased when going from turf shots to tee shots? Is the distance from the ball different between irons and woods?

Thank you

Anyone have issue using their MEVO with an IPad? I don't have a problem when connected to my Android but when I connect to an IPad Mini the shots don't register. I get the connected, then ready icon but when I swing nothing happens...haven't been able to figure it out. I switch back to my Android phone and it starts picking up shots???
