My green reading ability is so poor... anyone help?

I am so puzzled by my green reading ability. Frequently, my green reading is opposite than others. Is there anything wrong with my eyesight or just pure dumb at green reading? Any help or wisdom on green reading is appreciated?

Thanks.

Most people over look that poor technique contributes to the ball not starting on line and/or breaking too much or not enough. Look at technique first then judge how you read greens. Post your putting stroke.

Thank you for your suggestions. It looks like AimPoint is a good way to go for green reading. After reading some articles and threads here, I think I have a little bit of idea about the AimPoint.

However, I do have a question about the short putt, which about 4-6 feets, with some degrees of break. Will AimPoint still work accurately on those putts?

I can understand on the putts for longer distance then you can feel the slope in between your ball and the hole but I just can't comprehend the short putts with break. Maybe I need to take the AimPoint training to figure it out.

If everything else fails you should check out Montes Voodoo putting. I have tried to describe it in an other topic, but people thought I was disrespecting Monte for giving his tip away for free. But he describes it in his short game video. The video is great for a lot of other tips, so you should check it out regardless.

I went from having 38-40 puts to 29-34 using that method. And went from 7 to 4,5 I hc last year. It's extremely easy to learn and I still don't know why it works as good as it does.

I like to imagine if I hit a putt that dies at the hole directly on line to the hole how far off I either direction it would end up. Then I'll line up that far in the correct direction of the slope and putt.

I find it easier to see the slope if I hit it straight and ending away from the hole as opposed to making it in the hole.

At the very least this method had me missing putts high which I'd take any day of the week

Aimpoint works for short putts. Just take your line from the lower lip rather than. From centre.

Aimpoint on short putts helped me the most. I found a straight 6footer the hardest to read - always went looking for a break! Aimpoint solved that. If I can't feel much it's inside the cup!

The effect is not guaranteed :) but I could not aim or trust the line at all, so I don't think I made a put over 3 m for the first half of the season. Kept hitting greens like a motherfocker, but when my 9 y.o. son outputted me, I would almost rather chip than put the ball. Tried it on a whim and started to actually capitalize on my fairly good GIRs immediately.

Yes, around 5-6 feet and in you switch from using one finger from middle cup per % slope to one inch outside cup edge per % slope. And then 3 feet and in it's so speed dependent that often you rarely give the cup away even with 2-3% slope.

Best to just get the concept of AE, then hit the practice green with a level (or smart phone with Clinometer app) and "make it your own." Two long knitting needles and 30 feet of white string will let you quickly suspend a straight line over your aim line, so you know you're starting them correctly. (Note that on a single breaking putt, the apex of the curve is where the ball lies, so it will start and be on that line for just a fraction of a moment after impact.)

I can't help, my putting is atrocious at times. My buddies laugh at me, especially with the grain in Florida.......I guess I gotta hit it closer....LOL

LOL! EKELLY I feel you! But its funny I realized something....and Im going to chalk it up to inherent talent...

I remember reading/hearing Jordan Speith is 80% with anything 10ft and in. Yeah Thats right 80% @ 10ft, I can honestly say I dont think I am 80% at 3ft, WTF!!!!!

With that, watching TV and studying, these guys dont hit a 6ft Circle @ 150 yards, its like a 15ft Circle, but they make Birdies...and lost of them, If I cant even be 80% @ 3ft, let along pro's dont hit it to 3ft at their best, hitting it closer is not going to save me LOL!

I need to learn how to PUT 10ft and greater and have an amazing stat like 80% @ 10ft, Hell I would take 50% @ 10ft LOL!
