I would fit into the category of people who could play blades/players irons...however since I recently picked up a set of some GI irons I figured I would chime in.

Srixon Z545.

Just hit them for the first time today and have to say I am very impressed. Plenty of distance, good on mishits, look good at address. Only issue is they might feel a touch firm on mis-struck shots (some would say that is good to help distinguish between good and bad), but aside from that small issue they performed today as good as any iron I have ever hit. Actually a bit shocked to be honest.

Opinions? Some off the top of my head are

2016' TaylorMade M2s

Nike Vapor Speeds

Titleist AP2 714

Callaway Apex

For the players not good enough to play the blades/player irons, what's the best game improvement iron you guys have seen in the last 5 years to help with distance and doesn't kill you on mishits?

AP2 is worlds away from "most forgiving".

What are you after here - super forgiving heads like Callaway Big Bertha, medium forgiving heads like AP1 or better players cavity backs like Srixon Z545?

Irons don't care what handicap or skill level that you are no matter what their head design is.

There is minimal difference between mishitting a game improvement clubs & blade type clubs.

You can hit a G15 iron just as crappy as a MacGregor Tourney.

I agree. Apex doesn't qualify either.

Ping Gmax comes to mind as one of the most forgiving irons made in recent time. Large high MOI irons are most forgiving.

I still remember my first time out at the range after purchasing some Ping G10's. After 20+ years with blades or smallish players clubs the G's were a giddy epiphany. They were just so easy to hit I couldn't believe it.

And it seems as though the OP doesn't CARE about how you can hit a G15 just as crappy as a blade.

Otherwise he would've made this a blade vs. CB thread.

You guys got yer own blade thread - no need to pee in someone else's pool.

This week, the PGA Tour is at TPC San Antonio on the Oaks Course for the Valero Texas Open. GolfWRX was on-site Tuesday to catch a glimpse into the bags of some of the world’s top golfers.

The field of 144 is getting ready to battle starting Thursday for the $7.7 million purse, with $1.386 million going to the winner. The tournament is also the last event where players can qualify for The Masters, just like Canadian Corey Conners did last year.
