Best Poverty Forged Players Irons (CB) ?

Whats a good CB option that has been mentioned that might be a little longer heel to toe than a traditional players CB?

To me visually for a club to seem forgiving its all about size, not so much the tech behind the ball. Just a mental thing.

I guarantee you...these: They have always looked like a "longer" blade than usual:

I bought a great set of Wilson Staff FG-17 irons. I currently have the 6 7 8 irons in my bag, but here's the deal: the are the same length and loft of the 7 8 and 9 irons of a present day Ping Iblade. I've even played with the whole set. You just have to adjust your thinking when you swing one. Go by yardage and not iron numbers

17s are a great old school set of irons, but far from CBs! Have a set that "nothing" can knock outta the bag, no matter what I try I always come back to the 17s!!

For myself, I find them as easy to hit as anything in my stash of irons, and that includes a set of XRs I got as a Xmas gift. They just fit me and my swing! Try them, you won't regret it!

Changed to forged irons several years ago. First set was Callaway X-forged 2007. Last year I had the Titleist 704 CB stainless & really liked them. Have gotten out 3 times so far this year with Titleist 735 CM stainless & love these!! Last time out shot par on back nine, a goal I have been working on. Now time to par the front.

For each set I have never spent over $200 on eBay for them. In fact besides the 735 CM stainless that I have been using, I also got a set of the regular chrome forged 735's because of the feel of the Cally's. Both sets were from eBay & did not spend over $170 combined, & that includes shipping.

Bridgestone J15 CBs..ALL DAY.

Best combination of soft feel, workability, distance,(and most important of all) forgiveness on the market (imo out of any iron set ever made). Benched my MP-53s (which are incredible irons themselves) in one range session and 9 holes.

I'd also highly recommend Callaway 2013 Xforged, MP-53s, J40 CBs, and TM 11' MCs.

I have been playing well lately and looking to "upgrade" to my first players forged iron. With a sub $300 budget I have narrowed it down to these sets:

Mizuno MP 32

Titleist 690.CB

Bridgestone J33 CB

Are there any other sets I should consider?

ANY IRON MADE BY MIZUNO IN THE PAST 20 YEARS IS BETTER THAN MOST BRAND NEW CLUBS MADE THIS WEEK. PUT ON NEW GRIPS AND GO PLAY THE BEST.

Another vote for FG Tour V4, I played them all of last season and short of the new v6 they are the best irons I have ever hit... and I have hit most of them.

Cobra King 3 Utility - Kuro Kage 100X

Can't believe no one has mentioned the MacGregor Pro-C.

Don White designed, Miura forged. Done and done.

Those are hard to find especially in his price range--- Actually surprised me you posted that most folks outside the Classics Forum do not know about those. So I really have to give you a +1 for mentioning them

2009 X forged, Razr x forged all can be had sub $300 and in great condition. Maybe 2013 X forged

Are there any other sets I should consider?

This is definitely true but anything in the $300 range for Mizuno will be pretty beat up.

You can get some great irons for $300. I've seen plenty of used sets of MP64s and MP59s, in nice condition, sell within the price range. Heck, I purchased a set of new MP64s less than six months ago for $355.

The older model Srixons (i302, i506, etc.) pop up in the classified and on eBay from time to time for cheap. They are as good as anything out. Heck, now that the z65 range is out, you might be able to find some of the z45 models within your budget. Those irons are fantastic.

Point being, there are some great, classic irons that can be found for cheap (MP32s, etc.), but don't limit yourself to older models. Lots of "desperate" sellers during the winter months selling on the cheap in the classifieds to "feed the addiction" of buying more clubs. There are also a lot of online retailers (budgetgolf.com, 3balls, Dallasgolf, and global golf, among others) that run tremendous deals from time to time to clear out used inventory. Keep an eye on the "Deal or No Deal" forum for coupon codes and general "heads up" on the best deals to be had. If you are patient, you can get darn near any iron set you want (within reason) without breaking the bank.

Yeah Budget Golf has a lot of sets on special right now
