Best value tour ball right now

What would you say is a good price for a discounted Name Brand rangefinder?

I recently purchased a discount brand (Inazone) for $120. The thing performs flawlessly. Can't imagine any benefit for buying a popular name brand that would cost more even at discount.

Yea I think people like playing a unique golf ball or don't want to wait for a sale.

120 bucks sound great if it works well. I understand why that type of no-name rangefinder is popular, it's because Bushnell/Leupold/Nikon charge so much for their slight variations on a pretty standard device.

It just seems like when there is already easy availability of those generic rangefinders at very good prices, why would companies like Precision Pro or ScoreBand keep going into business just to slap their own label, make one a different shade of green and charge a few dollars more than the generics?

If someone buys a $120 "Inazone" instead of a $240 "Bushnell" I can't really see the appeal in splitting the difference and paying $200 for a "ScoreBand"...

Never heard of scoreband before. The ones I looked up were $20 - 50. Or is there a brand of rangefinder called scoreband? I suppose trying to cash in on percieved value at a higher mark up.

The lenses on the inazone are good enough for inside 200 yds imo. The Bushnells seem to be built better, more sturdy and better view plus more features in some models. Big difference in quality of the case too.

$20 per dozen is the new standard for bargain price urethane golf balls it seems. My local store had the Z Stars. Decided to get just one six pack since I'm totally stocked with various Top Fites, 50 Elite, a few Q Star and some E6.

Please do not bother with Gamer Tour for distance loss and bad feel. Complete waste of money and time. U get what u paid for. I recently bought 3 dozens for $45 @ dsg but ended up returning 2 dzns. I will have to bite my tongue and use the rest.

I have to concur with your assessment of the Gamer Tours. I had tried the Top Flite D2+ Feel and loved them. I bought the Gamer Tours thinking they'd be even better but didn't care for them one bit. A full club shorter and no more spin or greeenside control than the Feels. I ended up trading them in for Feels.

Taylormade Tour Preferred will be marked down to $24/doz in the next few weeks.

I can get these for roughly $35 here now, if I buy 5dz. Still worth it? By comparison the Nikes (still), Cally and Srixon and even the Project (a) goes for around $40 a dz, and the new ones are well over the $50 mark (TP5 and ProV1). Worth the $35 price? If I buy now, I kinda have balls for a good while I think :)

I don't know how accessible these are for you in Norway. I'd probably go ahead for $35/doz. That's still a great price for the best ball in golf.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Where were taylormade tp5 26.99

Lucked into a 40% off Taylor made Junior Discout program. Works for all TM and adidas.

I wish I can get my hands on this deal.

I am a big fan of TPX balls and this year TM made something I think.

I wish we had a bigger market, we don´t see the big fire sales as you do over the pond I´m afraid. Thanks, I will most definitely buy them, even tho I know they will disappear into the woods anyway - lol. I have tried a bunch of different cheap balls that would probably suit my HCP more, but they feel dead to me when I hit them, so I kinda have this expensive habit of urethane premium balls now :P

Any previous version of Bridgestone or Srixon can be had for $20 if you look in the right places and are patient.

I have been wanting to try the Maxfli U/6 series as they are only $29.99 but will wait until they have a better deal which I think are 2 dz for $35

You can still get TM Lethals direct from TM for $2 per ball. I think you have to buy 50 balls ($100)

You can get TM TP and TPX combo packs for $25 with free shipping on RBG. If you do not mind playing both its a great deal.

As others have said, stay away from Top Flight Gamer Tour. They are not horrible, but they are shorter off the tee and just feel lifeless. Not bad for the price when on sale, but just cannot stand up on performance.

Callaway V-Series 3 & 5 wood with Aldila Rouge Silver
Srixon 585 5-AW - Modus 105 Stiff
Ping Glide 2.0 Stealth 53 & 58 Degree

Srixon XV - Yellow

maxfli u/6 frequently are $29.99 and BOGO if you pick up from DSG - sometimes you'll get free shipping too. I bought 2 of the regular 1 of the soft and 1 'x' to try out at some point in the future.

It continues to amaze me that one brand or another of slightly cheaper alternative balls (Snell, Vice, MG, the new Oncore) continue to pop up every year or so. They are all contract-made, direct to consumer balls that basically sell for a direct-to-consumer discount on the price of the major name brands.

All that is good but when there is a constant stream of even cheaper balls from the big names available, usually last year's version, it amazes me there's any market for a $33 Oncourse or a $27 Snell or whatever when you can get well-known brands new old stock routinely for $20-$25/dozen.

I guess they must be serving the market of people want to play a brand that's both cheaper and unique among their usual foursome, rather than just shopping for a cheaper price on the same, non-unique Bridgestones or Srixons that everyone else plays.

P.S. Somewhat tangentially, the same thing is going on lately with rangefinders. Every few months there's another start-up brand coming along selling the same array of white-label rangefinders from the same Asian factories. You read the specs on them and they've all got the same features, they're all the same weight and dimensions, only the color and maybe the style of viewfinder reticule differs. And they all sell for more or less the same price, give or take occasional markdowns and sale pricing.

That's a pretty sweeping generalization that IMO, would apply to a tiny percentage of golfers"I guess they must be serving the market of people want to play a brand that's both cheaper and unique among their usual foursome, rather than just shopping for a cheaper price on the same, non-unique Bridgestones or Srixons that everyone else plays."

In particular, most testing bears out claims of superior performance for several balls. Snell is a great example - tests out with top numbers across a wide of handicap/skill levels. Cost wise, if you want to play a performance ball with those kinds of characteristics, it's a great value if you buy six dozen at a time - $26 each, no shipping and orders are processed almost immediately. Can you buy something else that suits your needs for less? Maybe yes, maybe no, but if you like one ball and you can afford it, stick with what you like.

That said - Everybody should play what they like the best and works for them, but I wouldn't be making insinuations about ego based motivations for ball choices and applying them in such a sweeping way. We all know a lot of golfers make ego based choices in equipment that don't work to their game's advantage, but certainly do lighten their wallet and increase their head size!

Ok I left out the possibility that they buy a particular brand because they believe a "test" where someone claims that particular ball is superior in some way to the alternatives. Of course somewhere on the Internet there's a "test" proving anything you care to imagine. One person buys Snells because they "tested" better than Vice while another guy buys Vice because a different "test" showed it better than Snell. Meanwhile some other person buys ProV1x because his own "testing" showed it better than all of the above.
