Open Courses?

Its been raining on Cape since noon

Were all screwed here in NE. Indoor golf for a week or two at best given the extended cold. I'm booking time at nearby enclosed sims. Just to keep from damaging lamn shades in my living room.

I've popped a couple ceiling tiles in my basement. Time to call Wamesit Lanes and get a sim this week.

 

They have sims at Wamesit? Did not know that. Pappas golf in Chelmsford gives me my indoor fix. Apparently will be getting a few more weeks out of the winter membership..

Yeah about a year old. 5 of them. Only $50 an hour and they have a full bar. Nice Sims too.

Sean, need a south shore update. Holding out hope the plymouth area didn't get destroyed like we are up north at the moment.

We got about 3 inches before it switched over to rain. Most should be gone by this weekend. Still cold though, the long range looks a tad cool

Yeah. Long range looks cold, but SE New England was spared greatly. Spots of snow with little melt will probably keep the courses closed through the weekend, as we have more snow coming Sat and Sun in two separate systems and won't be cold enough to melt it in the mean-time.

 

Most of the snow is now under trees and in prevalent shade. Mostly grass showing.

 

Edit: Just got email from Acushnet River Valley, they're shooting for the 20th.

+1 on Pappas golf. Nice owner, lots of tools and gadgets to use and about 8 hitting bays. Also have a large L shaped chipping / putting green. And serve adult beverages. I've been a few times and hoping 1 more before this cold weather subsides.

Yeah didn't know about it at all until last year. Indoor sand trap's as well. Plus members can rent skytraks to use (they have 2) free to make hitting into a screen a bit more exciting. I haven't tried the sims, I'm not a huge sim guy but they have 2-3 bays for that as well.

If their website is correct, $105 Monday through Thursday and $125 Friday through Sunday until mid-May. Seems crazy this time of year!

For Newport National I'm seeing

 

M-Th: $95 until 2pm then it drops to $75.

F-Sun $105 until 2pm then it drops to $95.

 

It is higher than usual for this time of year for the course (that's close to prime season prices), but I'm thinking that the new management has something to do with that thinking "How are they going to build/pay for the new clubhouse and extra 9 holes if they keep discounting everything?" Sure, lowering the price will get more players, but I don't think that's the new managements goal.

It's getting to point of withdrawal with the winter weather continuing along. Cold, snow and now rain are preventing much of anything open and even when they are it's going to be really wet. I'm hoping we can get out there by mid-April at this point but it might be later. I've heard a few courses on the Cape are open but might have temp greens which is unfortunate. Really getting anxious to start playing on real grass again instead of hitting off mats all winter. Is it me or are the winters coming later around here - we normally can get out for early spring golf by now.

What courses have temp greens? All the regular early season courses on the cape/south coast area are good to go with no temps.

Played 36 at Falmouth CC today. Original 18 holes only, but was in decent shape for the time of year. Good amount of dead grass/hardpan around greens but overall was in decent shape. Haven't played in over 2 months so it felt great to be back on a course. Greens were rolling well albeit a little slow.

Played Crosswinds (Jones and Zaharias) this weekend. $50, cart path only, all tees and greens open. Fairways were not too muddy, greens OK. Atlantic and Olde Scotland Links are also open (OSL walking only).

Also I just got stationed up here. I live just off Cape Cod. What would the must play courses in the area? I really do not want to drive more the 1.5 to 2 hours and really if its only really good.

I was able to get out and play at Poquoy Brook in Lakeville on Saturday. Greens were a bit rough, but definitely nice to get outside and see actual ball flight.

 

Walking only right now and one temp "winter hole" on #2. Heard carts could be out next week. Totally renovating the pro shop/clubhouse over the winter, so still a work in progress.

juniper hills website says lakeside will be open this weekend. Newton Comm also plans to open Saturday walking only.

If the weather is decent I think I can get away with leaving saturday with the excuse that I know we need something from Ikea. I appreciate the ongoing updates. Would love to know anything in that area just south of Boston that may be open without traveling towards the Cape
