Taylormade Spider Tour Putters

Any have experience comparing the Red vs Black? I know the Red has a softer insert and was curious if amaturs can feel the difference.

Can't tell the difference I'd guess unless you have the hands of an angel. The black was plenty soft for me.

Also just wanted to say (think it's been said here already) but CHECK YOUR LIE & LOFT ANGLE ON YOUR PUTTER !!! I had mine measured and neither the loft or lie was correct per the spec sheet. In fact my loft was ONE DEGREE. Luckily I use a 1.5* lofted head so it's not a huge deal, but for you guys on slower greens or who have a more negative AoA, this would be a disaster for you.

I think the "feel" difference is more related to the sound. Both putters rolled the same to me, but the Black has a slightly higher pitch (kind of alumninum-y) and the Red is more muted. This would be my classification of the Red being "softer" feeling.

Thanks. I have the black one and it does feel a litter firmer. Need to roll the red to see if I can tell the difference myself.

After two rounds with the Spider black, it was just a tad too firm for me so I returned to the store to exchange it for the red. They also had a restock of the platinums which was the one that really sold me on the Spider putters in the first place. I spent about 30 minutes switching between each one and ultimately went with the platinum. I like the deeper face and it had the same feel as the red. The sightline helps as well. I didn't putt badly with the black, but I just had a hard time of getting a feel of it when the ball comes off the face. I've always been a good putter, so I didn't want have to adjust my whole putting technique to fit a putter.

I thought the Platinum and the Tour Black have the similar insert and the Tour Red was different?

I have owned both and this says it perfectly.

Switched to Left Hand Low with my Red and rolling it even better! Love this thing!

You don't have to be a pro or amateur to notice the difference. I putted with both for about a week straight but right off the bat I could tell the black had a firmer feel to it. Was it bad...not at all. In the end I preferred the black and ended up ordering one.

Received mine a few weeks ago. Ordered after multiple good players I know said they put it in the bag and were putting the best they ever have. I've always used an Anser/Newport style putter, so the mallet shape is taking some getting used to. But I can say that the Spider Tour (Black) is the most stable putter through the swing I've ever used. It feels like it swings itself. When I putt with the Spider for awhile and then pick up my Newport, my hands almost feel like I'm shaking. It also puts an incredibly solid/true roll on the ball. Starts true, stays true.

I just bought the black model. Seems a little light so I may add some weights.

Was a little suspect of this putter at first but rolling it really well now. Just seems to put a really solid roll on the ball.

Still thinking about adding a sight line to mine. I saw a few people have. Any feedback after you added and how you liked it?

I have played the last 3 weeks in my golf league with the DJ model. Loving the putter so far. A guy in my group always comments on how good of a roll it puts on the ball. Literally everyother green he makes that comment.

he sounds great fun to play with ;)

I play in that league and I don't get that kind of love...maybe that will change with the black!

I know it has already been said, but make sure you have your lie and loft checked. My DJ model was pretty darn close to the 70 lie, but loft was only 1.5*. I had it changed to 2.5*.

How's the alignment working for you?

A taped line is not allowed according to the rules, it must be permanent.

Good info to have, but honestly I play golf to have fun. There are just some golf rules one must ignore to enjoy the game.

I gave the Red a couple of rounds, but I just feel more comfortable and putt better with the Black. The Black is back in the bag, and I am putting great with it. Don't think I had any three putts today. I have 4g weights in, so about 360g total weight.

Does anyone use the spider that is currently putting left handed low? Any models you all prefer over others using that technique? Thanks

I just switched to LHL and making even more putts. One round I had only 25 putts. I liked this version of the Spider already, but putting LHL I like it even more.

I have had most all versions of the Spider since their inception and this is my favorite one for sure.
