Anyone know if you can get on May River without having a hotel reservation? I’ll be in HH next week and have already played Harbour Town and would love to play May River. Unfortunately, I had already booked my hotel when I found out about May River.

You have to stay on the property to play there.  If you belong to a private club you can try having your Head Pro call to get you on.

You can email the Pga Pro at some of the local private clubs and look to get unaccompanied access. Some of the clubs I’ve been able to get on so far are Belfast and Chechessee. Surprisingly affordable for guest rate (around $150) and the best conditioning in the surrounding area without a doubt.

Rotate the following:

Titliest TSR2 16.5* (@A1) Fuji Speeder 8.3TS X

I think you mean Belfair.
But yes, 2 of the best conditioned courses in our area.

Yeah sorry, it auto-corrected and I didn’t proof read!

Thanks!

I actually did this this summer at a resort club that you had to stay on property to play. Surprisingly he was very welcoming to come out and play and the rate was the same as what one would pay staying at the resort (although the earliest I could play was around 1:30). I’d certainly say it’s worth a shot, particularly if you’re in the off-season.

reviving this thread. Interested in golf communities and was planning on checking out Callawassie and Dataw. Anyone have opinions? Looking to live in the Golf Community and belong to the attached CC.

Dataw has 2 beautiful courses. I played there yesterday. The community looks very attractive.  Even though Dataw itself is kind of isolated, it's only about 5 minutes from a Walmart, A Publix, and a Food Lion. The beautiful town of Beaufort is about a 10 minute drive away. I don't know anything about the housing or the cost of membership.

Callawassie has 27 beautiful holes. I also don't know anything about the housing or the cost of membership there, but it's also a beautiful place, just like Dataw. A few years ago there was some unpleasantness at Callawassie that made the local newspapers. The home owners were suing the community about some issues that I didn't really pay attention to, since it didn't affect me. I believe that all the issues have been settled and everyone is happy now, but you might want to google that to find out what the issues were and how they were settled.

Will look at Indigo Run. Isnt it part of Club Corp? The price at Dataw is manageable but a bit high. $40k at purchase and it looks like 15kyr for all amenities. I think that seems in line with the good communities around Bluffton toward HH. The elite places are more (Secession, etc). I would prefer a bit less $$ but anything near the water gets pricey.

Was hoping those with local knowledge can help me focus my efforts. Wife picks the house, I pick the golf course.

Indigo Run is a nice course as well as a nice looking community.  There is also a public Jack Nicklaus course on the same property. It is not as well regarded as the private course, but it might be a good change of pace from playing the private course every day.

Indigo Run is on HH. One thing to consider is whether you want to live on Hilton Head Island or not. The island is certainly beautiful and has a lot to offer. Bur some people prefer to be on the mainland (Callawassie, Dataw). The HH Bridge tends to get congested during rush hours, and also on Saturday afternoons (time share changeover time).

Tell me more about Hampton Hall? Anyone have experience with the course/Community.

Nice golf course. Excellent range. The community looks very attractive and seems to have a competitive price point. The course just reopened after a renovation, so it should be in excellent shape. The annual fees (as of last year) are $5098. The onetime membership buy-in is $23,000. https://www.hamptonhallclubsc.com/
