Maltby vs big name companies

You will get some that hate them and some that love them. Its all in what YOU like and what YOU want. Personally, I have tried a bunch of their stuff and its good. The forged irons feel a lot better than their cast stuff. The cast stuff isnt bad, just not as good as some other options, but you have to look at price point. The forged stuff is surprisingly good and a great value. Again, its all in what the player thinks and not the other guy.

Yo are playing one of the best forged cbs by any club maker for the last decade. As long as you like them and they fit you properly you won't find anything better.

Maltby did design for bigger companies as well. Back when everyone played tommy armour clubs he was designing the heads. The Maxfli heads he designed way back are still sought after to this day.

I've toured the facility and before the groove rule change came into effect I saw several sets of clubs from tour players at the golfworks. All different brands that were waiting to get his patented M groove put in the face.

I bought a set of the DBM heads, and have only shafted a couple of them. I have been to the range a couple times, still deciding if I want to assemble the whole set.

They feel good, not as good as a friends set of Titleist 714 CB's, but close. I like the performance. My hesitation is, do I want to play a non oem brand? The performance says it shouldn't matter.

They have quite a few very nice iron offerings from players ~ sgi. Wedges are top notch and the Tour HDI driving style irons are really nice, as well as the kE4 tour hybrids. Drivers and fwy's are solid, but IMO where they are lagging behind. That being said I do play the STw driver right now and if you can get past the horrific paint scheme, it really is a nice driver, solid and muted feel and quite forgiving, with a deep face.

Just venturing into maltby now. No readily apparent issues on quality. My playing partners noticed my new sticks and had no idea what maltby was and promptly went back to not giving a crap about what's in my bag... As I find with most people... If you care about a more marketed name then it's a problem. But I would hesitate to equate marketing to quality. If maltby's look good, feel good, and work for me that's about all I could ever ask or want out of a club.

I have the Maltby TEs and a Tricept wedge. Nice thing about Maltby is you can buy a single club and if you know your specs, have them assemble - all for a nominal cost. The quality of their irons are as good as any. As respects cost, can't beat them. Only downside is the resale value. Personally, I really don't care if I hit an OEM club or not and the resale value really only comes into play for someone who switches out clubs every year or two,

There is a great listing on ebay for a set of DBMs with KBS tour black shafts, The listing has been on there awhile. Original price the seller wanted was approx. $500. Now they are at a BN price of $300. All the clubs are new with the exception of the 9 iron. Great deal for a buyer - the seller is taking a bath.

I hear that comment about resale value on another small golf forum I go to. If you're buying clubs because the resale value is higher it could be defeating the idea of playing something that fits you. Sometimes what fits you may not be mainstream and popular.

I've got the new UFW fairway shafted up to take for a test drive today. First looks at it are very good. Nice looking head IMO but a little light even with changing out the weight. I added a little hot melt to get the weight to my liking.

Looking forward to your review. I have been looking at getting a 5 and 7 is that model.

First impressions of the UFW are very good. This club could be hit from any lie. I tried it on tight lies and in longer grass (not rough) results were good on all shots.

Only thing I wasn't crazy about was the sound. It's not horrible but I like it more muted. I'll probably add more hot melt to it and switch the weight out to a lighter one.

You can see how the rails aren't nearly as pronounced as they were on the trouble outs.

This is a very good looking fairway wood. How big is it compared to other fairway woods? I like a more compact look to my fairway woods. It's why I still use the Adams Super Hybrid XTD in 15* and 19* loft. These don't look too much bigger than those.

I have a set of Maltby te 701 forged I've been using. Just looking to see people's opinions on the Maltbys compared to big name clubs like TM, Callaway, Ping etc..

Out of all of the forged cavity backs that are available, these are the ones that I choose to play. In my opinion, they easily rank in the top 5 of any forged cavity back out there right now in looks and in forgiveness.

These are the best wedges I have ever had. I have played many versions of the Callaway wedges and nothing compares to these.

Played the TE`s all last year and loved them.Going back to my OG MMB`s to start the season as i think the narrower sole might fit my swing a little better and i get a slightly lower ball flight with them.

I have used a maltby club from driver to putter at some point over the last 10 or so years (including 12 of 14 in 2010 or something) Some good, some not so good, but nothing bad at all.
