I was custom fit for my new JPX Tour coming from MP63's. I tried MP5 and just didn't think that they were as forgiving. I know others say literally the opposite to that point so that's interesting in itself. It is taking a little bit of getting used to with the finish BUT they are more forgiving than my MP63's. I played Saturday and had a couple of iffy lies that I didn't fancy. These really cut through much better than my old irons and resulted in good shots both times. I was very impressed. lucky for me I have 4 days in Portugal to test them properly (& 30 days return with mizuno if they really aren't what I want)

the biggest difference has been the slightly high launch of the PX 6.5 over my old X100. It's fine on the flat or with no wind but is certainly requiring a bit of "recalibration" with shots into the wind so far. work to do there but overall I am very happy. like anything, even custom fit, there is an adjustment to get used to them.

Personally like the MP5, stupid easy to hit, great feel, and look great.

This isn't settling a thing! But it does tell me that the MP5 may be getting a little overlooked for forgiveness because it is a muscleback. I have not yet hit the 900 Tour or the MP5. But I have hit the 900 Forged vs my MP59 gamers from last season. The 900

forged is longer, but the MP59 is better at impact and has more traditional loft. If the

MP5 is similar in playability to the 59, that is encouraging. I may even give the MP4 a swing.

Glad we cleared that up for you ;) One thing I will say now I am 6-8 rounds in is that I feel much more dialled in now with shots into the wind and I am enjoying the smidge of extra forgiveness over what I had. I guess I am still missing the chrome finish a little as others mentioned too but they're working very nicely, results are good and that's the benefit that we are all chasing, right?

I think the bottom line is that you won't go far wrong with either.

The JPX Tour 900 has a giant sweet spot relative to the rest of the players' clubs market. It's a great club and in the bags of more than a dozen touring pros even though it got luke warm reviews. I don't see any advantage over the MP 4 which is superior to the 5. It reminds me of the old Eye 2+ in terms of playability. Relax. I'm not saying they are the same. The 900 is easy to hit for a ballstriker and glides through the turf easily. Just like the 4, 5 and 64. Pick the one that looks the prettiest. I like the 4's.

I have only demoed the Tour but I was struck by two things. First just how high of a ball flight I was getting and how easy it was to elevate the ball with these. Second was just how forgiving these were for a toe side miss which is usually my miss. I know everyone is talking about these being unforgiving but that wasn't my experience in demoing them. I was demoing them with the same Nippon N.S. Pro Modus 3 which is the stock shaft for the Hot Metals which probably had an effect about what I was seeing ball flight wise. I do love the feel of them and I would seriously consider bagging them if I found a good condition 5-GW set and I'm no single digit player.

Personally I think it's all preference. I love the look of the Tours and their satin finish. Looks so smooth and not complicated. MP5s are fantastic as well, but I'm not a big fan of the super shiny chrome. To me it makes the iron seem more harsh (all in my head obviously), and they glare in the sun which I don't like. But both are fantastic and you can't go wrong either way!

FWIW, Koepka plays the Tours, as do a lot of the former Nike guys without an equipment deal currently.

Forever tinkering…

Just to confuse everyone, I went to a Mizuno fitting a month ago and the 900 Tours gave me the best numbers, but the mp5 were so close it wouldn't matter on the course and they looked better..........so I bought a used mp4/54 combo!!! :superman:

So you got fitted for a set then bought a completely different set? What is the reasoning behind that?

I could have ordered a set there and then, but............I went for the fitting just to find out what my specs were. I try and bag as much JDM gear as possible, and I love the 'bling' that some graphite shafts bring to the party, so I choose the Fire Express shafts as (after asking some advice from other forum members) they were the closest graphite shafts to C-Taper that I could find. After the fitting I bought a demo MP4 6i to see if I could hit something even more beautiful than the MP5, and I could, so I choose the MP4/54 combo because they had been through the 'Yoro' process in Japan and look awesome. I have the matching Japan T7's which are at my builders. Can't wait.........

I'll do a WITB soon.

I tried both the JPX900 Tours and the MP5

I went with the MP5....using the same shafts (NS Pro 950 S, and Modus3 105 R), I preferred the feel of the MP5, and the looks at address, and I seemed to strike the ball better with the MP5.

Numbers and performance wise, the two were very close for each of the shafts.

The other thing swaying me was that I felt the MP5s were a really beautiful iron....the best looking that Mizuno had designed in many many years.

So MP5 for me too....

Owned the mp5 for a bit have only demoed the tours.

Short irons in the mp5 are to rounded to my eye.

The tours look perfect in every iron

I would go tours if I was buying a new set

Pulling this one from the depths.  I have played the 919 tour (I have both the tour and the Forged in 4 and 5 irons) for two years.  This year I picked up a set of MP5s. (5 h'cap for reference.)

The look of the tour is spot on and the short irons do look better, no question.  They are solid performers all around and I have zero bad to say about them.  However, the MP5s is all Mizuno and feels so damn good.  The look of the short irons is a "thing" but it's not so bad.  The feel and distance control is absolutely phenomenal with these irons.

I am not writing this post to pick one over the other.  They are both excellent.  We'll see what ends up on the bag next year . . .
