The Callaway rep I talked to on Tuesday confirmed the high price and that the strategy is to go for the PXG-type premium market. There will always be a premium market, although sales will surely slump in the next recession.

 

Speaking of premium, there was a guy at the range yesterday with one of those JDM Gold drivers. He couldn't get it to go more than 150 yards. Looked good though!

 

It's always "that guy" that owns that driver. :cheesy:

It is announced on the web site with a May 26 release date.

Epic Hybrids have been announced.

Actually showed up on their website yesterday for a few hours but have since been removed.

I was able to talk to my rep yesterday morning and got one on order! I was the first order for an Epic hybrid through Callaway!

They are releasing hybrids 2-5 at 18, 21, 24, and 27 degrees.

They are adjustable, same as the driver and 3 wood design.

 

What were the stock shaft options?

over in the U.K the driver is £429 and the fairways are £250, they cant charge more for a hybrid than that. I think the hybrid will be around £200.

I agree, cant wait for the hybrids. If they are anything like the other Epic clubs, they will be sweet. Two words: Heavenwood = Amazing. Long, High ball flight that has reached my previous XR 4 wood length. I also got the 5 wood which is now as long as any 3 wood I have ever hit. The Heavenwood and 5 wood are soooo easy to hit. I am still amazed that the shots coming off of these clubs are actually mine. lol....

I have a fitting day scheduled at my club on June 2nd, day of Launch. I'll have plenty of feedback for everyone by then at the latest but hopefully sooner when my rep stops by to show me the new stuff!

Hybrids will be $279.99 (Same as fairways), stock shaft I saw was a recoil. Epic Pro irons will be $250 per club steel and $280 per club graphite. Stock shafts for the Epic irons are Project X LZ 105 and 95 (OEM version of the LZ) but all shafts will be available at no upcharge.

Tough to charge premium prices for an iron that looks this cheap.

 

Yep, They are butt ugly.

 

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder. Few things are uglier than PXG that look like a Frankenstein monster with all the electrode screws around the periphery..no surprise they had to inject thermoplastic to get any feel since they take a forged body and weld a steel (not forged) face to it. Must be their remembering their time at Ping thermoplastic injection takes the place of CTP to soften the feel of a non forged face..

I think what CCTxGolf is saying is that there will not be a new offering of the heavenwood with this next release. The current one remains the current one. This release just adds the irons and hybrids to the Epic family of woods already on the market.
