Getting scammed on the forum

Yes the APP needs work and I for one do not use it. OP, here it is about building relationships through our apparent addiction to this game. In reading your original post and the reaction from members, it sounds like you just stepped off a spaceship. With many sites like Amazon and EBAY, we would all assume that you have in one way or another heard or delt with those sites before this one. Like anything else on this planet it is a learn as you go site. I for one have bought and sold enough to say there are more awesome members on here than losers out there trying to scam people. Yes scammers are everywhere unfortunately so protect yourself by using reputable payments sights like Paypal to send and receive payment. Like many a people said, always communicate with the seller through PM or Personal Messages which you can do just by clicking on there avatar ( box with picture in it). The feedback score designated by different color stars will show you feedback that was left on various transactions the member has conducted on this site. For myself there is no such thing as too many questions especially if I am the seller. You have a responsibility as a buyer as well. Dont assume that all sets of golf clubs are created equal. This site is a notch above as a lot of the members have some connection to Tour Vans, mini tour players, and Golf aficionados with a great collection of golf gear. And you have members like myself who love the game and love what this site provides. One more thing OP, you heard about first impressions right....... Just kidding. Hope you find what you are looking for and welcome to the site.

Thanks for the welcome and for reaching out. My main question was how to best protect yourself from scammers and somehow that got misconstrued to me calling this site a bunch of scammers. I should have just kept lingering around and not created a profile. Some people can just be territorial I guess. Again, didn't mean any harm and thanks to those who offered advice.

I just wanted to say, welcome to the forum.

I have read through this thread and it appears that maybe you do not do a lot of online purchases of any kind? I know it took me a long time to start purchasing online. I was always scared of getting ripped off and I also liked to see and touch what I was buying before giving up my hard earned cash. So I had purchased a couple of small $ items first and realized that it was awesome to spend less money for the same item I could get at the store. Now I buy and sell on here and on Ebay, as well as Craigslist and offer up.

I would assume that most sellers like me are also buyers. I know when I sell something I like to treat people the way I want to be treated. So I package my items well and try to ship the same day. Just because I know that person is like me and wants to hit that club he just purchased asap! So go ahead and pull that trigger and get those irons you want. Chances are you will love the experience!

Hit em long and straight!

I had a guy on BST insist I gift the money through Paypal and I refused. He then came up with some lame reason not to do the transaction, that's been my only experience on BST so far.

I've had a few "new" members with zero posts, zero feedback, and a recent join date PM me about my BST sale ads. From these members I will only accept gift payments. I know this doesn't pertain to you specifically, but there's no chance I'm sending a club out to somebody like that with no protection for myself.

Is it fair for you to ask them to give up the only protection they have?

Better them than me. Always look out for number one dude.

But there is no chance I'm sending someone a club, with a join date of yesterday. Zero.

As for him giving up his protection? His protection is my not wasting my years on this board with 100% positive sales feedback to screw over some random guy.

I likely wouldn't either but if I decide to sell something to someone I am not going to insist they forgo the only real protection they have. If I am that uneasy about a deal I just won't do it.

Completely understood. And usually the deal doesn't get done. But I always give that new buyer the option. Tell them to look at my feedback, and if they feel comfortable, complete the sale. It'll give me some piece of mind, they'll get their product as advertised, and a shiny positive feedback star next to their name :)

You do realize your feedback is 14.

Because everyone gets feedback for every deal they've done

Gonna play that card?

Sure why not?

Because 14 noted and documented feedbacks does not equate to 100 transactions or so. Guy made it sound like he's been a platinum level BST member for ages with his stance. Really not that hard to comprehend to be truthful. Moreover - hes already said he has about 20 total transactions, 14 of which were documented. Again, not like hes been on here for years swapping gear. He is more than entitled to his stance and how he does business here - totally fine with me, and I was merely raising my eyebrow at the somewhat ironic stance. What is your skin in the game?

100s of transactions?

Are you saying you would sell a set of $500 irons to a member with zero posts, zero feedback, and a join date of yesterday? Of course not.

Back in the day, I had 0 transactions. Someone took a chance on me. You are a newbie to me, in BST terms, but Id do business with you. I wouldnt gift under any circumstance - and your stance of demanding the newbie lay down his only protection in the transaction is why I disagree with you. Yes, I have done business with the 0 crowd before. You gotta start somewhere. You may do as you please. Have a good one.

Anyone else find it odd that a 2 week old member is already referencing inside jokes from 3+ month old threads? Thats like an 8 year old making Casablanca references. Either someone has been really bored and reading up on all the old DOND threads just because (in which case I highly recommend you head to reddit, its content is far more plentiful, entertaining and there's so many GIFs!!) , or someone is running an alt account after getting the ban hammer....

Please oh please be Door #2!! I can't imagine a better way to be caught on an alt than that!
