Why doesn't Cameron sell the 009 model at retail?

Granted, there are a 1,000 Anser style heads out there, but the 009 is really popular on Tour (with probably nobody playing a stock Select Newport), so why doesn't Cameron sell that head at retail, even as "premium" Tour Design or something?

Seems odd that he keeps some of these designs for guys on the Tour only.

$$$$... truth is they do sell them retail only.... and they get $3500 and up.... if people stopped paying that for a year maybe youd see a $1k store model.. but it wont happen... But i get what your saying .... they could make a $600 version that was engraved and not hand finished at all so you could get the dale head shape and i dnt see it hurting the hand stamped models.... But i guess they think it would.. most guys dont play them and the cheaper model would be for someone wanting to play that shape.. he produces all other shapes for retail, except that M1 #9 ish shape i think..

I would think to protect all of his collectors. They have paid very big bucks for that exclusivity, and if they were mass produced and available retail, there value would plummet. Just my 2 cents.

Ehhh, I don't think they're doing that. I think they've figured out that it's profitable to segment the retail and collector markets, and they can make a lot of money selling retail newports to most of us and $3500 009s to collectors.

If it was profitable to sell the 009 at retail they'd be doing it.

There are other makers out there selling putters that are the equivalent of the 009, in nearly every way, except the Cameron stamp. Many of them offer a large number of options that Scotty is not in a position to offer on his 100% CNC milled design. Do some digging and you might like what you find.

Just my opinion.

Actually the original "009" is called the PING Scottsdale Anser, this one (not mine) is Nickle version , the first milled version of the PING Scottsdale was made by Byron Morgan and had a tour win before Scotty Cameron his version.

The best thing about the DH-89 is that is a third of the Cameron and you can have it made the way you wanted and not have to take what is given to you.

And like it has been said, the reason a retail "009" is not offered is to protect the price of what is already out there.

Would you also like Ferrari to produce a budget car? They can use the body and put a Honda Civic engine in it and sell it for a fraction of the price.

I think maintaining the exclusivity of the 009 is very important. After all, those tour putters are labeled with "tour use only" and "tour circle". Do you think it would be as popular/ sought after if it wasn't exclusive?

Beautiful putter, man. I like that a lot!!! I am jonesin for this style again but will agree that paying for the stigma of the 009 gets a bit ridiculous, and I like Scotty's putters. Had a DH89 I should have kept, but may have to look into the Mannkrafteds now! Damn it....

This is very true. Lamont makes a beauty Dalehead shape, but so do many others. Not to mention cleveland makes a nice milled stick fresh out of the package for just over $100. So many options .

The only reason to pay 3k is the name...and because you have money to burn.

Old thread bump...

Scotty had a Newport few years back somehow similar to the 009 but somewhere in the forums there is another thread where the 009 is compared to other OTR Scottys. In this days it’s much better to get a custom made and unique putter from someone like Byron Morgan, Lamont Mann, Kari Lajosi and Kyle Sears (Kingston). They produce amazing Anser or Daleheads putters.
