Whats your prep routine the night before a tournament?

Not range stuff, but prepping your gear.

 

Do you clean your clubs, clean out your bag, mark some balls?

 

I generally set out the clothes I plan to wear so I don't have to monkey around too much in the morning.

 

I mark up a fresh sleeve of balls. Remove any unnecessary junk from my bag to keep it light.

 

And gather up a little pile of snacks for my bag.

 

And then just try to get a good night of sleep!

 

I almost never clean my irons or anything like that. I have a superstition about that. I clean the grooves as I play. Wipe then down as needed. But I've always felt cleaning all my clubs before a round is bad luck. With a little dirt on em they seem more ready for battle! :)

I don't really do anything different from my daily routine. I generally always keep my clubs clean and have marked balls in my bag. Preparing for a tournament round differently than a casual round seems like it would build up some anxiety. Getting a good sleep is very important, so I may pop a melatonin and go to bed early if I have to get up earlier than usual for a tournament. Other than that, I try not to think about too much.

Clean irons, make sure GPS is charged, and I did get a Tin Cup ball marker a few years ago, so I make sure I have plenty of new golf balls with my special mark on them...

I do a 45 minute stretching routine before bed. I focus on the upper back/shoulders/hips/hamstrings. I have a lot of back issues, and I have found this seems to help me loosen up in the morning.

Clean the irons, make sure the GPS/rangefinder has a good battery, make sure the clothes I want to wear are out and ready to go, check the bag for usual stuff and to also make sure the first aid kit I have is ready (came in handy more than a few times and not always for me).

chuck clubs near the door then get pizza and beer, a good movie, fall asleep on the couch, get up at 3am, stagger to bed for 4 hrs rest, get up and down a pint of coffee, a Macdonalds, then rush to my tee time and shoot 94.......again.

Eat good. 3 carbs to 1 protein

Might do a very short workout to open up the muscles so they'll accept more energy stores for the event.Recover with 3 to 1 inside 15 minues.

Rest, rest, rest, and sleep

 

I'll likely stretch out in the evening and do some swings in front of the mirror, which is where i do most of my off day work/practice.

 

Might venture out to the back yard to pitch a bit in my nasty grass...adds confidence.

I clean my clubs, go through a quick check to make sure I've got good spikes, clean grips, enough balls marked and all my tools ready (divot,range finder etc). I'll even throw a couple granola bars in my bag, maybe fill up an 'emergency flask' full of bourbon if things go south.

 

I don't want to ever use lack of preparation as an excuse.

 

I'll drink a lot of water before and during a round, mostly because I get bad headaches if I'm not hydrated.

I try to keep it pretty much the same as I would for any round and not make it bigger than it is. I'll get my clubs and clothes ready and check the GPS to see the travel time so I'm there with enough time to warmup correctly, but that's about it outside of making sure I get to bed at an appropriate time.

try to get some sleep. I have some insomnia issues, I will wake up a couple times a month after an hour or two of sleep, wide awake and extremely tired at the same time.

 

 

Usually I will sleep 1-3 hours the night before, I normally afraid I won't hear my alarm and miss my tee time, and I super excited to go out and compete

The only things I do the night before a tournament are prepare food, make sure GPS is charged (if allowed) and needed accessory's and cigars are in the bag, shoes cleaned, and then #1 = good nights sleep.

Day drink until around 11 PM the night before. Set alarm for the AM the following day. Drink a 32oz Gatorade (this is important) before passing out. Wake up, shower (also important),teeth, etc.. Smart water, coffee and BEC.. ready to go..

 

Two things about this route. 1. Get a real solid sleep. 2. The light hangover helps keep tension off early part of round
