I just had my best last Saturday. Shot 65 with 28 on the back. Obviously the front nine was nothing to brag about, but the back nine every putt went in or lipped out and I hit the stick twice. I've shot under par plenty of times but I've never been in a zone like that, it was another world.

My best rounds have always involved lights out putting. I once had a round where I had 20 putts and shot even par hitting the ball like donkey doo doo. And shot 7 under with 25 putts hitting great shots for most of the round. Just as you have rounds where almost nothing goes right you also get one of those rounds where almost everything goes your way. Too bad that ratio is like 50-1. LOL.

Interesting how the determinant for best rounds can be so different! I shot a career best round two weeks ago and then followed it up two days later with another career round! I found that the difference (for me) was great ball-striking (giving myself very make-able birdie putts all day). While I putted well (30 and 31 putts) both days, neither round was exceptional on the greens, I just had so many birdie opportunities and very few scrambling situations.

I have never gone crazy low and I'd expect what a guy who shot 64 or 65 would be different than my experience. I've shot 69 and 70 a few times. What is funny is that nothing stands out. A bunch of pars and a few birdies. Often times I don't even realize how good the round is until we add it up.

Not much. I won the tournament but that was more a result of the lack of players than my ability. My favorite round ever (and it won't be ever touched), that's another story.

I'd stopped short of giving up golf but I'd only played in charity events etc for the last ten years. I decided on whim to play a round. I'd found a golf app that lets me play for 10 bucks plus fees for local 18 hole courses with a cart, so long as I wasn't overly selective about tee time. Anyways, like I usually do when I have a long lay off I struck the ball like a stallion. I made the turn at two over, very good for me especially for not having played in a while. On 8 (a severely uphill 290 yard par 4) I hit a beauty and was on the fringe. An older gentleman that was mowing saw it and drove up to the green to see where I was. I was hitting a (lol!) Dunlop Goliath 400cc driver. I missed the putt but had tap in for bird. Yay.

On ten (a slightly uphill) par 4 of 267 yards I hit that ugly old driver and watched as it landed on the mounding that led up to the green. I hit an easy cut so my shot was ten feet left of the pin. When I got up to the green I couldn't find my ball. I searched high. I searched low. Finally I had the sense to check the cup. Yup! I'm now one under through 10. I promptly bogey 11 so I'm starting to think that I know where it's going. Following par on 12-13 I move on. 14 is a 170 par 3 and I hit a shot that is seeking the pin all day. It hits a foot behind and skips back and I end up a foot in front. Tap in to get back to under par. I par 15-17 and arrive at 18 one under. It's a short (150) par 3 and I push my tee shot and end up just off the fringe, chipping uphill to the flag that's 60 feet away. I flub the chip and it ends up on the lower shelf that's a good 35 feet or so to the pin. Mentally I'd given up on ending up one under so I was praying to leave it to tap in range to shoot even. Again, drained it.

At the twilight of my Jr career I was playing pretty well but had a hard time putting rounds together.

During a fairly important tournament I had a bad first couple rounds and barely made it to the last day. Anyway I kind of gave up and went out with some friends before my early tee time. Showed up, didn't touch the range or the green in the morning and just wanted to enjoy my last tournament round as a Jr.

I only remember two things from that day, 1 was my score which was well below anything I ever shot before (and after) and that after two holes I decided to get out of my own way. I just hit at everything... completely everything. That réalisation came after I holed a 25 foot birdie putt that must have had a 3 yard break in it. To this day I haven't been able to "get out of my own way" to that level

I remember I was -2 on 9 of the holes (not consecutively) and on the other 9 holes was +16. I also remember the three 3-4 footers I missed. Feast or Famine. It was an 85. I enjoyed that day thoroughly. Nothing better than being on a golf course. The confidence from all the pars and 2 birdies outweighed the negativity.

The essence IMO? That rare thing called "the flow". Hitting that state of mind when you have no swing thoughts in your head. You step up to the ball (whether a driver or a putter) and just stroke it.

If any teacher could figure out how to produce that condition on a regular basis, it would be worth a fortune.

My best round (so far) was a 10-Over 82 on my birthday last year. I love being able to look at my stats for the round, as I can only remember a couple of specifics. The front 9 wasn't very good, as I hit the turn at 9 over. But, somehow, something just clicked on the tee box of the 12th hole. I feel like I just got into that "groove" people talk about, and finished the round with my first ever Eagle on the par 5 18th hole.

In looking at the stats, I only hit 43% on my fairways, and GIR was 56%. However, I was able to only putt 36 times. And, as I mentioned, I remember just feeling loose and easy-going on that back nine.

I can't wait to find that again.

Oddly, I didn't know it until I added up the score card at the end.

It was my home course and I was golfing with a regular friend I played many rounds with. I knew I was having a good, if not un-remarkable round.

As we headed off 18, I added up the card and then handed it to my friend and said "Double check the math for me..." It was my best score ever to this day.

The funny part is... I don't remember anything specific from that round! LOL

Shot 84 the other day not my lowest round bit my best since I've had 82s and 83 on easier courses. Was just in control of the swing all day nice slow tempo hit 12 greens, stood up on 16 at +7 so needed to be plus one last 3 holes for a 79 which ive never done in 2 years of playing, got away with a bad drive but had 200 yards uphill into wind for my second hit my 3i ob duffed the next was on putting for a 6 from 70ft or so up a massive tier made 9 then par 17 bogey 18 shot 84 but realistically was just one good swing away from that 79, that's how I'm looking at it anyway ?

Shot my best round today. (-1, 71)

Only hit 50% fairways, which ended up not really mattering.

The thing that stood out...13 GIRs (72%) with 30 putts (1.67/hole). So I was hitting greens, and making the 2 putts for par, with an occasional birdie putt dropping. Also, when I did miss the green, I was able to get up & down for par saves. That really helped a lot.

Hitting a lot of greens, making putts, and staying out of big trouble.

My best ever was a 75 in May 2005, 40 front 35 back. What I remember from the back was the last 3 holes.

16 - I don't remember the drive but it was in the fairway and I had an 8 iron in (Tourstage Z101 DGS300). Hit a good shot to 6 feet and made the putt (Odyssey 2 ball blade).

17 - par 3 186 to pin, 180 to front. Hit a OK 6 iron to the front fringe and had an uphill 15 footer which went in.

18 - par 5. Hit a really solid drive with the 510TP tour issue / Apache MFS 75. Hit a Nickent 4 hybrid with Aldila NV on. Had a 20 foot eagle putt that lipped out.

So drives in the fairway, solid approach shots, and good putting led to a 3 birdie finish :)

my hottest streak ever was 5 birdies in 7 holes and i can only remember one really long putt of about 35-40 ft which i made and the others were all less than 10 ft..

these were from holes #2-8 on the front 9 but unfortunately i had bogeys on #1 and #9 so only shot a 33(-3)..

i can still see that long putt in my mind tracking all the way to the hole from the moment i hit it and just knew it was going in!

it was my 4th birdie on that 9..
