The coverage is fine.  Maybe there aren't any popular players at the top of the leaderboard, but that's not NBC's fault.  And what's up with all the Zinger hate?  His commentary is right on target.  It's better than hearing that blubbering idiot Nantz spend four hours telling us sob stories about the players' kids, wives, mothers, fathers or anyone else he can kiss up to.

I’ve been impressed with the sky sports team like others have said, Beemer and Radar bring character to the broadcast, ewan the experience, brad faxon is with sky this week and so to is henni, kinda missing Butch, overall its been a good US Open so far with no controversies so far like in past years Anyone could win it today. Hopefully Rory but we’ll see.

It has been a subdued tournament, no clue why it feels that way. The shotmaking has been limited. The golf itself has been...unspectacular. Nobody is making putts and approach shots have generally been flabby. Maybe today will be different?

Zinger can't pronounce names either - which should be the minimum ability expected of an announcer.

Also - we're accustomed to hearing "brought to you with limited commercial interruptions" at the better events.

 

With NBC, it's "brought to you with UNLIMITED commercial interruptions plus "Playing Through" pretend non-commercials.

Anyone remember last November's Masters, in the first round the internet broadcasters had no announcers talking. It was the best first round of any tournament I've ever watched. You could hear the players and the caddies talking, joking around, and zero lies being told about what clubs they were hitting. It just hasn't been the same since.

 

Zinger was obviously an intentional hire for a select group of the fanbase, but I cannot stand the guy. I'd rather watch on mute than listen to him babble on mispronouncing names and ruining old southern sayings. He makes me really miss Johnny Miller.

Was going to comment on the US Open thread but not much mention of Azinger there.  Didn't know there was a whole thread dedicated to it.  He is unbearable.  I wonder if he is aware.  Who is the genius who brought him on?

Well, it's hardly dedicated to him since it was started in 2017 when Fox had the coverage.

1. The straightest players never hit is straight 

 

2. Best players on tour hit the long irons high, and the short irons low. 
 

I know he tries the train smoke, but that may need to be retired quickly.

This is where the European Tour shines, the coverage. Their announcers are the best, and don't add a bunch of garbage "fluff" like Hicks and Azinger. Everything doesn't have to be dramatized. Let us just watch and enjoy the coverage.

Azinger is an idiot. Ripped Steve Stricker during the 2017 US Open after he finished, saying Stricker is an emotional guy, "he'd tear up seeing a shriveled up worm on the sidewalk". Guy is a D-bag. But he's cool because he was Payne's buddy.......

There's just too much talking. Announcers are going to say dumb stuff I accept that, but there is simply no need to constantly talk & especially giving us a verbal description of what we can see with our own eyes on the screen.
