True Temper shaft code - DG or SG SL?

Titleist87

Recommended Posts

Ordered two DG S300 37" wedge shafts from Golfworks. The code on the butt end reads L77199555-5 DGISL300-37. Seeing "SL" makes me think I have Super Lite shafts and not the standard Dynamic Gold.

DGISL 41-37 Dynamic Gold S300 Taper 130 Gr.

DGSLIS3 41-37 Dynamic Gold SL S300 Taper 106 Gr.

So they are the classic DG

The "L" in the "DGISL300" means "long" in this case (well, not sure it is intended to mean that by True Temper, but it's how I think of them). DG shafts formerly were from 35" to 39". When they were lengthened to 41" to 37", they added that "L" to distinguish them from the former, shorter, DG tapered shafts.

DGISL could be interpreted (I'm hedging, lol) as "Dynamic Gold Iron Stiff Long." Meaning, shaft model, what club it's for, then flex, and the L to ID it from older DG shafts.

The "DGSLIS3" Howard mentions for DG SL then falls into place; the model is DG-SL, it's for Irons, and Stiff flex.

Incorrect. DGISL 300 is the DGS300 shaft not the SL shaft or the long version. It's the standard shaft in most good players' irons. There are many here who give bad information. I suggest that you go to the True Temper sight, find Dynamic Gold and go the PDF shaft info. It will clearly show that the dgisl 300 is the Dynamic Gold S300.

Before you try to correct anyone on this page, do your homework and read whats actually is written

DGISL 300 means....

D = Dynamic

G = Gold

I = Iron

S = S flex series (200/300/400)

L = LONG version (#9 iron is 37.00" or 2 inch longer than the old model)

300 = sub flex 300 or weight between 129.5 and 131.5 grams

So this IS the "LONG" version, and the only on the marked now as Tour Weight or 130 grams if you like, so its your correction who is "bad"....

Hehehe. Better watch out Rookies, there’s a lot of knowledge on this site.

Don’t mess with Howard on iron shaft particulars. LOL.

Haha, we all do mistakes, i do them all the time, especially when playing, but correcting someone with WRONG info is not smart, because that do have the potential to mislead someone who might think "the latest poster is right", but in this case not, but i have to admit that TT shaft codes might be tricky to read if you dont know whats behind the letters and numbers, but my job was to know....

And likewise I assume that the DGISL200 is the same designation but with the S200 weight - right?

 Yes, thats S200, and if it was S400 they would have the 400 number as ending.

The I signifies it is a taper tip.

4 years later, but for the record, the i = IRON

The coding for TAPER is simply the lack of the letter U as a start digit where the letter U means "Unified" (Parallel)
UDGISL = Unified - Dynamic - Gold - Iron - S flex - Long version

The same code without the U is Taper

I thought the U was "Unitized". But, as always, solid info Howard!

Ping G400 3 and 5 Woods - Diamana D+ Limited 70 stiff

Ping i200 5-UW - Modus Tour 105 stiff

You are right, both terms is used, but the correct is "Unitized", but logic say it should have been a P for Parallel, or like Project X does, they add the letters TT for Taper tip, and leave the Paralells without that code.

Lets take the L or "long version", since many is not aware of that we play a long version of the original Dynamic shaft.

This is the specs for the long version, including tip trim instructions for WOODS designed before 2009. The tip trim chart itself is handy for those who want tip trim conversion for what tip trim to use when we install a steel wood shaft in a modern club head.

The LONG version had its first year on the marked in 1999, so here is the last specs from True Temper on the OG Dynamic, who then becomes the "short" version. Pay attention to that shaft weight is no longer the numbers we are familiar with, and thats because todays model is longer, but as Grams per inch, they are the same.

DYNAMIC (not Gold sorted) 1998 (Taper irons is the last 3 lines)
image.png.cec729c88738b343cac3f3f2c9749069.png

Dynamic GOLD 1998 back to 1980
TT introduced the GOLD sorting standard with tolerances of +/- 1.5 grams, and by that SUB flexes where shafts after production was sorted into S200, S300 or S400. Before 1980 it was simply DYNAMIC and the chart above. We can also see that the product code/screen code, now has the letter G for Gold sorting added vs DYNAMIC who dont have the G.
