Rain Pants for Shorter Guys

Recommended Posts

I am looking to pick up a new pair of rain pants and I'm wondering if any of the brands tend to run a bit short. I'm 5'8" and wear 33 waist, 30 inseam pants. Some amazon reviews had me concerned about the length of zero restriction medium pants for example. Rolling up or cuffing the bottom is not a big issue, but wondering if any of the brands tend to run a bit shorter in length. thanks!

If you're willing to spend the $$ I think most galvin green pants are available with shorter inseam. Otherwise most rain pants can be hemmed, which is an extra cost & hassle. I got my gg jacket on function18 & am considering pants when I think my wife will be ready for another of my golf purchases without giving me too much grief.

The issue with hemming (and at 6'5" I don't have this problem) is that they have those zips at the bottom so you can put them on/take them off without taking off your golf shoes. So if you hem it would be hard to retain the zip and that flap that goes over the zipper.

Nike hyperadapt rain pants are adjustable and the bottoms can be buttoned up. I'm 5'9" and have a 36 waist and big legs so I need xl pants while I'm a 30 inseam. They are they only golf specific rain pants I have had any luck with. If you want to look at non golf specific pants, marmot makes great gore tex pants and come in short inseams at 30 for a large. They can be found cheap at sierratradingpost.com certain times.

I know Proquip has pants as short as 27" and go up in 2" increments up to 35". Their stuff isn't goretex but I've read they work pretty well. Also Galvin Green have various length pants as well

Yes on proquip. Allows you to select inseam length. Got mine through ebay and very happy with it. It helped the euros win the Ryder cup. Snap button, front zipper, zippered pockets, elastic waist, 100% waterproof.

I will definitely check out the nike pants. I will also stop by REI this week and check out some of the non-golf brand specific options that are out there, which may allow me to double up these usage for winter...hmmm. thx!

I also recommend ProQuip. I typically wear pants with 30" inseam. Bought a pair of ProQuip rainpants from Amazon with a 29" inseam and they are perfect!

I'm 5'6 with a 30" waist and have about a 29"/30" inseam, bough a pair of the FJ Dryjoys in Small and they fit great. They have like three bottom snap positions where you can tighten the snaps on the cuff to make the opening smaller so they don't drag.

If only I had gotten the idea to start this thread last year when I lost my rain pants. I had the same problem as you. I'm 168 cm (5'5 in feet perhaps?) with my legs being really short. Tried different pairs and almost all would be to long until my friend who works at Ping told about one of their old models that had an option of an 27 inch inseam! A bit tight around the thighs but the first time I found something with a good length.

I hope you find a pair that works for you OP from all of theses suggestions!

I'm also a 36/30 and went with Galvin Greens because of the shorter leg availability - they've been perfect.

RLX makes a sweet rain suit. The pants have buttons and Velcro to adjust the length. It is a great feature.

Thanks for the feedback on this topic. I'm looking into the proquip soon

If you're going to REI, take a hard look at the Jetstream rainpants by Kuhl. They are styled and cut (crotch is cut for motion/athletic type activities), just like their traditional pants. They look like a black pair of their normal pants, but with zippered pockets and leg openings. They come in specifics waist sizes and inseam lengths. I just bought one waist size larger so they would slip over normal golf attire. I'm a 34x30 in pants, so I just bought 36x30 in these. Unlined and thin so they aren't hot at all. Out of all my rain gear (seriously...I have an issue with rain gear...About 20 different top and bottom sets...Galvin Green, ZR, RLX, FJ, etc) they are my favorite pant. I operate a golf course and use my rain gear a lot at work, and they are my go to pair. They aren't exactly cheap, but have been my favorite out of the 8-10 pair of rain pants I have.

I have the hyperadapt rain pants, and even when adjusted to maximum shortness, the inseam still runs at about 32". From reading this thread, I would suggest going with a pant where you can buy a specific inseam. you won't be able to hem the hyperadapts. From a functional and quality perspective however, they are top notch.

Pretty much same measurements. I have foot joy dry joy rain pants with full length zippers on sides. I took them to a good tailor and had them shortened to my length. No problems what so ever.

Reviving this thread. Anyone with any updated thoughts? I have ProQuip PX1 XL-29 but tried them on today and they’re too long and extremely baggy. I think the XL-27 will be right but getting hard to find.

Would love some other options to chase down, even if they’re not technically golf waterproof pants.

When I worked in a cart barn at a TPC course 15 years ago we had waterproofs with pants thst had a strap that went around the calf and made them really length adjustable. But for the life of me I can’t remember what brand their were.

If you don´t mind a more slim fit than most raingear I´d try the Sunice Edisson gore tex pants if they´re still available. They have 29/31/33 length options and also have the zippers and buttons to customize the fit on them.

Bought a pair with a discount a couple years ago and have done their job extremely well, they´re great at keeping me dry and a have great fit to boost.

I, like all of you, need some shorter inseams. I hate traditional rain pants because they’re baggy, and seem to drag under my heels no matter what. Took a flier on the FootJoy HydroKnit pants and haven’t looked back. Fortunately, I have had to play in any torrential downpours since I got them, but they’ve held up well in regular rain showers.

Isn't ProQuip dead?   I thought the company who bought that brand declared bankruptcy last year and the only ProQuip stuff you find now are at liquidation sites.

The stories last year was that they're done, and their websites are all down. But a few months ago their social media sprung back to life, promising some new updates and a new line. But who knows. Golf Support still has quite a few of their items.
