2017 Taylormade M1 3 wood feedback

Recommended Posts

Interested in people's feedback/review on the 2017 M1 3 wood. Looking to maybe grab one in the next couple of days and am interested to hear people's opinions on them. Particularly interested to hear which loft you went with (15 or 17deg) and why. I hit both today and didn't see a lot of difference inside on a LM but might have just been my gumby strikes. Will be hard for me to hit on the course prior to purchase which is my only reservation. Any thoughts appreciated. Cheers

I love mine. Have the 15º with a Rogue Silver 70X shaft tipped 1" in it, and it's stupid long.

There's a par 4 at my course that's drivable. I reach it regularly with my driver, but the chipping area around the green is a tougher shot than from 30 yards back. So, I normally take a 3-wood and try to find that open fairway for a pitch up. Not anymore, the M2 3-wood is almost getting to the green.

I have the 2017 M1 HL.

Have a atmos 7x TS shaft in it.

Love it. Penetrating ball flight and deep. It is sweet

Do you typically have a low ball flight? Just curious why you went with the HL instead of the 15deg? I'm mostly going to be using mine off the deck at the courses I play now so I'm thinking the HL might just make it a bit easier to hit off the deck but just not sure as I've always had 14 or 15deg three woods. It actually reminds me of my old R11 three wood in shape and size and I used hit that thing really well. That was a 15deg head which is adding to my confusion given I used to hit it so well.

Thanks

If you plan on hitting it off the deck a lot and you struggle to elevate fairway woods sometimes, then I would get the HL, IMO.

Distance and help off the deck. I don't hit a lot of fairway woods off the deck.

But I don't need help with distance. So the HL shaves some off for me.

Got the '17 model as a warranty replacement for my '16 and this club is incredible. Sounds and feels so much better than last years and it feels like it comes off the face hot. I have the 15* with Aldila Tour Blue 75. Can't compare the 15* vs 17* since I've always used a standard three wood but I don't have any issues elevating the ball from the tee or fairway

I've hit the m2, m1 and the m2 tour and the only thing that sold me on the m2 tour vs. the m1 was the difference in head shape. they sounded, felt and gave almost identical numbers to each other on the monitor. the m2 tour has just a bit more of a v sole and gets the ball out of the fairway or light rough with ease...the m1 sole was a bit flatter to me.

if you like to hit your 3w predominantly off the tee, you cannot go wrong with the m1. if you hit off the fairway sometimes -- I found better luck with M2 Tour.

I had the 2017 M1 fairway for the first 5 months of this year. Overall, solid fairway, one of the best I've hit. Very long, covers misses well. But, the Epic SZ is longer for me, feels better, and is easier to hit.

Just recently switched from a SLDR TS 14*. I generally prefer smaller headed 3w because I hit them better from the fairway and I didn't think I would ever give up the SLDR but picked up the M1 with some tournament winnings. Its a 15* with a Matrix Black Tie stiff that was in my SLDR. Thinking of trying the Hzrdus line, as that is what I'm using in a 2017 M1 driver. I use the M1 fw both off the tee and from the fairway. I don't have any trouble launching it from the fw and hit it pretty similar to the SLDR. I do think it is marginally longer off the tee than the SLDR. Overall I've been impressed and think its a great club.

Thanks for all responses folks. Did some thinking about this and realised I rarely hit 3 wood off the deck. It's not a shot I'm generally comfortable with and will only do it if I have a lot of room for error i.e. Low risk situations. So in the end bought the M1 15deg 3 wood as it will play better off the tee which is what it will be mostly used for. Cheers

Same here. I had the M1 fairway and switched to the SZ. Very solid with more distance.

I found the 15 and 17 to be just as long, I was a little more consistent with the 17 especially off of tight lies
