Ping Hoofer (not 14) vs. 4 series

Needing a new bag. I am partial to Ping bags. I have a 2012(?) 4 under and it is beat thought still functional. The dividers are separated from the bag and I probably should cut them out completely.

 

I’m thinking the Hoofer due to larger size and pockets.

 

My shop has a 20% off sale, in stock only, but only carry the 4 series. The sale ends today. If the Hoofer is the better choice, I’ll order or buy online.

 

I walk/ride 50/50 and carry some of the walking rounds as well as carry the bag around my practice facility. I use a clic gear 3.5 for the other walking rounds.

 

Also, any thoughts on Hoofer Monsoon.

Love my 4 series, this is my 5th season with it, but I wish it had more pockets and storage space. I used to carry a lot (75%) but now that I'm riding almost always I might buy a Hoofer. But if I was carrying more then I'd stick with the 4 series, the low weight is great but I also love the ergonomics and the way it sits on my back.

Thanks hispeed. I’m really thinking Hoofer as I went down to the shop and looked at the 4 series, it was a bit small. There was only one and I didn’t like the color. I looked at the Titleist 4 but could not pull the trigger. I wanted to get the club logo on it but to order was 6 weeks! I’m just going to pick one up online without the logo.

 

I did notice that there are single strap ping bags. I’m wondering if I can add the secondary small auxiliary strap to that. Anyone know?

I just bought a Ping Hoofer 5-way and love it. It's such a well thought out bag, a ton of storage, and even storage pockets inside pockets. I would highly suggest the Hoofer.

 

IMO I think adding an auxiliary strap is good in theory but never as good as a bag with the two strapping system. I added a two strap system to a Sunday/pencil bag and it works, just not the same. The fastening points are hard to get perfect.

 

Just my .02 cents but definitely suggest the Hoofer!

Thanks dugal-glad you like the Hoofer. I looked at the single strap because it was a bigger strap. It looked like there was a place to add a second strap. How are the straps on the Hoofer? I remember the real old ones were thick and plush, I miss that.

I received a Ping Hoofer 4 (14 way, birdie blue) bag and I have to say it is one of the best bags I've ever owned, the hoofer bags are proven, you cannot go wrong...

I have a 2016 Hoofer, which replaced a 2012 Hoofer. The 2016 model is essentially the same as the 2017. The pockets are well placed and well thought out. Plenty of storage and little bulk. The 5 way top works well. I can think of a few bags that may be as good as the Hoofer (perhaps the new Titleist and Sun Mountain bags ), but none better.

Bought the Hoofer. 9 holes on the cart. A little sunburned over the holiday weekend. Bag just looks great. Lots of pockets and yes the 5 way top holds the clubs nicely. No long pocket though. Should be fine. The bag did not sit well on my Clic Gear 3.5. Messed with the cart strap slot and it seems best not running it through the slot. I’m going to pick up the adapter for it and it should be good to go. Thank you to all who responded. CS.

Anyone have the monsoon model? Is it basically the hoofer 5 way but waterproof?

The straps are very comfortable, they're still thick but not quite as plush. They have a climate control material in them (cant remember the technical term) and it does seem to help, but bottom line, very comfortable straps.

Hoofer works perfectly well on a 3.5. Never heard of trying to use the cart strap slot though. That's why you have problems with it lol

I have a Ping carry bag, this is my 3rd season with it. I hate the straps. They are always getting twisted and I have to undo the entire thing. I am looking at getting a new bag.
