LPGA and Titleist

What are the typical amount staff players receive to play an OEM's equipment? How much on average do players receive to play an OEM's ball? Irons? Etc.

The majority of us simply do not get the support from Titleist in the same way the men do. As a result, we go with the brands who will support us and vice versa. The landscape has changed alot in the last 5 years or so and many girls simply get free equipment or apparel (if theyre lucky) as opposed to any sort of financial assistance from the OEM's for the vast majority. Of course, there are plenty in the top 100 OWGR who still get good financial assistance from certain OEM's or those with big social media followings. The majority of sponsorship though comes from big corporations from japan/korea i.e banks/finance sector etc

 

A bit silly how that works where someone who is beautiful and has a huge social Media following, but can't earn regular status on ANY tour, gets backed by OEMs. While someone with good enough game to make the LPGA/Symetra is lucky to get a free outfit.

Looking at the WRX gallery from the women's open I did end up seeing more Titleist clubs than I thought I would. I also noticed how strong a presence the PXG equipment is on the ladies tour.

I don't know much about Titleist's sponsorship of the LPGA, but I think I've come to understand how they lay claim to the #1 Ball on tour. I started following a woman on Twitter whose job, it appears, is to pick up cases of balls at the airport and drive them to LPGA stops and stuff them in the women's lockers before the event starts.

First off, I know nothing about the golf industry. Secondly, I knew pros got a lot of swag, but had no idea balls are flown to airports at tour stops and its someones actual job description to pick them up, drive them to the course and stuff lockers. If every ball maker does this, as you say, their lockers must be pretty damn full. And it speaks to the value players put in titleist if when given a choice of free balls from each OEM players choose it most often to play.

 

Titleist pays the most to put their ball in play.

 

Taylormade pays the most to put their drivers in your bag.

 

Ever wonder why they maintain the #1 ball and #1 driver on tour...well there it is.

 

Most OEM deals do not require you to play their ball or their putter and potentially their driver. This allows touring pros who are missing cuts to make a bit extra cheddar on the side by putting a taylormade wood in the bag and a titleist ball in their bag to make sure the week wasn't a total bust. This info is direct from my buddy who has been struggling to make cuts recently with his titleist ball and taylormade driver.

a club head is just a club head for the most part, shafts make the biggest difference. It's just a money deal, Titleist is just choosing to market to men, and rich ones at that. Also if you're familiar with Footjoy apparel sizing, they're after big men, their sizing is a good size larger than anyone else.

If I had to guess, its probably because the current titleist line up from AP2-MB are pretty weak lofted compared to everything else that you see regularly on the LPGA. I think its a club head speed issue for a majority of players. Its why blades are very uncommon on the LPGA, when you can get a players iron that has way more help than what is out there in Titleist. Callaway have the 360 Cup faces on 7-3i in the Apex Pro and those are very popular with the ladies - its a great club, but compared to the AP2 it offers way more help. The AP1 would work fine for so many people, but I think it fails to get picked up by the pros because of how chunky it is, you can get a thinner club with many of the same tech benefits from other OEMs.

 

Its the same with a 2i or other low lofted driving Irons on the LPGA, very few of the women can produce the club head speed to get the desired or optimal results with that type of club. The ones who do use it and use it effectively are long bombers of the ball.

By "help" I hope you meant loft because the lady pros certainly don't need more forgiveness for off center hits than male pros. And they get more speed from the shaft difference than they do the head. You're claiming, and I agree btw, that the men are using weaker lofts while every thread on the men claims they hit it far because of jacked lofts.

The lady pros are not your local club ladies that need help. They play quite well at the game they play. Some use more hybrids than the men and others don't. Probably more of the men should as well.

So why does Titleist have few last pros? Who the heck knows. They are not doing themselves any favors by losing sales to the market unless they think they make up for it by selling more to makes thinking it's a manly club.

Most of the drivers I saw Sunday were Callaway/Taylormade/Ping. Mostly Callaway/Titleist wedges. Mostly Odyssey/Ping putters.

Have no idea. Didn't say I believed him. Just heard what he said and it stuck in the locker above my neck. Never really put that much thought or effort into it like you are.

I play titleist 712 Ap1's with graphite shafts and Vokey wedges. But it was very hard to actually get my hands on this ladies set as they weren't avaliable at any of the local Golf Towns. It doesn't seem like Titleist is trying very hard to sell ladies clubs here. But I really like my AP1's and wedges.

I think what many are missing is that the better female players do not play "ladies" clubs. No pink, aqua shiny sticks for them. Most of them will play Titleist , Ping or whatever good players sticks with somewhat softer shafts. Ya know-like the LPGA players do.

This includes 7 of the top 10 players in the world: Jordon Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia, Jason Day, Jon Rahm, Henrik Stenson, and Alex Noren.

 

I know if I had to make my living playing golf I would be playing a club that provided some forgiveness while still be workable.

That's why they're are different clubs. Some need/prefer blades and some want/prefer some cavity back. There is no "better" but there is a "best" for an individual. I don't think any pro plays blades because it looks cool but actually hurts their performance.
