Slow Shifting Away - White Crowns

ikonturbo

Recommended Posts

Who else is excited to see manufacturers slowly moving away from white crowns? Granted they had some appeal when they came out but age horribly. Plus it is another "hey look at me" tactic imo.

Still think of the older jet black TM days, or gray Titleist crowns and miss how simple and refined they were.

I do not like white crowns either. I will not play them because of the look. I want a nice matte crown. I still like the matte gray of the Xhot woods.

i have a white adams 3 wood. i dont mind white, there may be a shift away but you are also seeing alot more bright colors. blue, pink, orange, etc. so while white may not be the in thing, clubs are standing out in other colors these days.

I did not really care for the all white crowns.. I do like the two toned White / Black the Taylor Made uses now.. As I have a 2017 M1.. Great driver. But I do agree go back to the black / gray colors and leave it at that. Not crazy about the wild colors that some like Cobra and Ping are putting out.. Callaway has done that too.. But... If it helps sell golf clubs the manufacturers are going to continue the practice..

I don't gaf what it looks like; I care if I can fly it 300 on the reg.

If it gives me the best numbers I will learn to love it.

I played a Covert Tour for a long time until it was stolen. It sounded awful, like an aluminum baseball bat, was candy apple red, and had a massive white swoosh on it. But I ended up loving that thing best driver I ever had. It only took a few rounds with it and once people saw how well it worked for me the jokes pretty quickly ended.

I was initially resistant, but I like the white now. I can see club head path through the impact area with my peripheral vision pretty easy.

I wish everything was light or bright in some form to provide contrast against the face. Ability to aim a white clubbed is so much better in the shadows, twilight and when faced with harsh low sun angles. Sometimes a dark clubhead provides no contrast points whatsoever in those light conditions to allow any confidence with aiming other than just a determined close guess.

Love matte black PING uses, wish more companies followed suit. No glare and stays clean looking

I agree... loved the matte on the Pings... just hated the sound. Went to the LTD black and it is the best of all worlds.

Gotta admit though, from a marketing standpoint the white is always recognizable. I don't mind it, I just don't prefer it.

I love it ... i mean best driver since teh sldr 430 for sure.... and it may very well be what the above poster said . Love my original Rbz 3W. Got used to the white crown and doesn't bother me a bit.

But...

To each his or her own. I say play what you like and keeps it fun.

Totally agree to all the face contrast posts. Being able to see the face brings more to the table than most would think.

But if you look back, most faces were already contrasted, black or grey vs silver. While the contrast is more prominent with the white vs black, is it do much to give up wear and that WHITE factor? To each their own, but for me, pass all day.

Not to mention but worn black soles also wear to no end. While I fell it is "ok" for drivers, in fairways they are ruined after a season in most cases.

Must admit I'm glad for the variety, as I find Black/Charcoal heads a bit dull if I'm honest. Much prefer the Cobra/Mizuno/Nike approach, brings some colour to an otherwise quite conservative game.
