PXG seeking new product data

Recommended Posts

Looking for anyone who has tried the new drivers, fairway woods and hybrids . Those who have experience with the first gen and the new products. How were the numbers? What did you find? Anyone try the milled wedges?

What I am not seeking is PXG bashers. If you have opinions against the brand and have not hit the clubs personally or able to intelligently contribute, please don't.

I have the x series 3, 5 and 3 hybrid and they are excellent clubs. As good as TM m series and Titleist that I have used.

The 0811x driver produced better numbers for me than the M1 440 8.5 and 9.5!

Do not have the milled wedges but they do have some with lower bounce than the 0311 model wedges.

I have a 55 and 60 milled Darkness version wedges. They are great. I have the 0811X drivers prototype and retail. They are extremely good drivers. I am now testing the 0811XF driver. So far I am really loving this version

I would be happy to answer any specific questions you have. I also play the 0311 irons combo with the 0311XF irons. But I have full sets of both. I also have the 0341 and 0341X 3 woods. I only have the 0317 hybrid.

Hit them last year and was not blown away by the driver. It was considerably shorter than other major brands for me. Irons felt okay, nothing special in feel, looks or performance. They were way out of my budget and I didn't go through a pxg specific fitting but I did hit 7 iron on track man. For me, just didn't like the look and their branding doesn't do anything for me. I can see how it would for some though. I will say that their irons are probably as good performance as any other player type iron but I want a forged iron for the feel and looks.

I play 1st year Hybrids 19,22,25,28. they are class leaders. The PXG rep told me the 1st generation may be better than second.

I do have a set of PXG 0311 irons, Darks, look great, I play these equally as much as Srixon 565.

I was so happy with looks and performance of the first generation 0317 hybrids I didn't try the X version either

I also ended up sticking with the first gen 0341 3 wood too. It was so good out of fairway and off the tee that it fits me perfect. The only PXG equipment I thought could be better was the driver. I've been playing 0811X proto for over a year now and it was much better than the 0811. I'm now testing the 0811XF and early results see it becoming the gamer.

Thanks Guys. I have really enjoyed the irons, been playing them for over a year. Had the original driver and it spun too much for me. The only way to get the spin down was to use extremely firm tipped shafts. This worked well however when set up this way the any driver becomes very demanding and with swing less than perfect you pay the price. I did try the hybrids and found my old Callaway's superior. Am hoping the 2nd gen are better, as I love the look.

The reason I ask about the wedges, I really like my first gen but they are becoming worn. My concern with the milled is the lack of bounce.

The reason I ask about the wedges, I really like my first gen but they are becoming worn. My concern with the milled is the lack of bounce.

First, I experienced too much spin with 0811 also. The 0811X fixed that problem by a lot. The 0811XF did as well but so far I like the higher ball flight with the XF

Second, I also felt the same as you with the wedges.

The reasons I went with the MilledT Darkness version was because I was told that model was basically the same size as the 0311 wedges vs. being a little smaller with the other models. Also they had nice amount of bounce 8* on 60 and 12 on 55 and I actually found the 60 milled Darkness to play as good or better from fairway and rough and WAY better from the bunkers. The little less bounce and the way it's set up is great on tight lies and when opened up in bunkers seems to play with more bounce and able to hit all type of bunker shots. They are little heavier than the 0311 wedges and this really adds to feel and playability

Hope this helps

I went to a driver fitting and I had a PXG driver set up for me just for giggles -- thought if it blew me out of the water, I'd consider it.

Sorry to say but the PXG felt the worst of all the drivers I tried (and I am a long time PING user, and PING drivers are not renowned for feel, so take that for what you will). It honestly felt like hitting a giant metal bowl.

The numbers weren't awful with it. If it were a $400-$500 driver like the rest of them, I'd have still at least considered it despite the feel because the numbers were in the same range as everything else. However, it didn't produce anything mind-bogglingly great either.

tried the irons at a fitting, they were nothing special. They did nothing to justify the price.

Good friend has a set he likes them a lot, Ive played and hit his clubs on the course and range and again they did nothing special. He likes to spend money on watches, cars, and golf clubs. So the price is a bonus for him, but I couldnt justify it.

I hit the original 0811 driver and was a fan, but it spun too much for me. The old fairway wood 0341 was awesome, but due to less spin in the X fairway in ten yards longer. I Play the X series driver and fairway wood and they are the best looking and feeling woods I've ever played- bar none. The no nonsense matte Black is fantastic. The adjustability is second to none on the market. Identical numbers to Epic sub Zero with out the left bias that I instantly noticed with Epic SZ. I also play the 0311T irons and 0311 wedges. The wedges fit my bounce needs perfectly, so no reason to go into the milled variations. The 0311T irons are just as good as every other iron out there for me, but have a very distinct feel that I really like. My iron loft gaps are the same regardless of iron I'm playing so I won't hit one iron further than the next.

Tried them all at the fitting

Driver was no good for me at all, didn't even make the final cut.

3 wood was decent, but was beat out as well

Irons to me felt great, and did much better than the driver and 3 wood, but were beat out in the final round

Hybrid blew everything else away (first generation). I haven't switched hybrids in years because nothing touched my trusty 913.

This one wasn't even close. Very happy with it

I have the combo set of irons ( see sig ) and they are hands down the best I've ever had. Tried the 0811 driver and didn't like it. Hit the O811X driver and love it, the feel is amazing and paired with the GD DI6 shaft this club is a machine. The 0341 or 0341X didn't out perform my Adams Tight lies. I also just got the 0317 Hybrids with the Oban Devotion 8 shafts and experimenting with them, still up in the air with those.

There are alright plenty of opinions out there and they are all different. We all know their stuff is expensive and it might not or might work for you. Your only bet is to go do a fitting to be sure. If your looking to spend that much money anyways its a solid decision to pay a small amount before you could accidentally pay a big amount for something you don't like.

I realize the shaft has a lot to do with this but my 0341 3 wood is the longest, best feeling, and most accurate 3 wood I have ever owned. So impressed I bought the 5 wood. For the record the shaft is the Rogue Black. Also a huge lover of my 0311XF's with recoils, brought back the distance I had 20 years ago with a feel that is easy on the joints.

+1 on the 0317 hybrid noted above. Think it is the best club in the PXG range and cheapest in comparison to mainstream OEMs than other PXG clubs. Have the 19 with an aldila rogue black 85x shaft and love the performance and just looks fantastic at address. Drivers not so much. The 0311T irons feel great but not any better than my MP-25s. Also hit the 0341X 3 wood and felt great, but not necessarily better than OEMs. That being said, I tend to keep a 3 wood I like a long time, and I have serious concerns regarding the longevity of current carbon fiber offerings from TM and Callaway (already had to have my Epic driver replaced due to cracking carbon fiber sole panel), and not loving the shape and sound of current Ping range. I might spring for the PXG 3 wood in the end.

I didn't care for any of it except the 0317 hybrids and the irons, I am hitting 0311 but wishing I had the T's sometimes, even though the off days the 0311 are great to have. I am waiting to try some milled wedges and the new X and XF driver, so far sticking with Titleist in the woods, wedges, and putter, I do have a hybrid in route I'm excited about! Thanks for keeping this thread positive.

While I do not have any experience with first gen to second gen woods I did purchase my first PXG clubs this year after trying and owning, I200's, T-mb's, AP2's, CB57's, baby blades, and 716MB's. I found a set of 0311t's with my favorite Modus 120 shaft and I am very pleased with these clubs. I wanted so badly to dismiss them and move on but even though I know I can sell the and get what I paid for out of them and move on to something else with money in my pocket I cannot. I have not experienced the random flier's that some people have had but I will agree that the only way I know I have hit a poor shot is seeing the result, its not felt like other clubs. I am glad I went with the "t" model as I was leaning towards the 0311 because of my handicap. If the 0311 is more forgiving then the "t" then its got to be a spectacular club, I just didn't like the extra size.

I also picked up a 0317 19* hybrid which I am equally as happy with. All my other hybrids I have had this year have been left machines but this one I play a sweet high fade.

I did not want to be, but I definitely ended up a believer. I just try and forget about the money spent...

I play the 311t irons and the 19 hybrid. Absolutely no regrets getting them and have had them for a while. Shot my low round of 75 with them.

I recently picked up a used set of 5-PW 0311 irons. I was coming from the Titleist C16's, which I loved and had only picked up the PXG's because I got a great deal on them. I went to Club Champion and was fitted with graphite shafts. I tend not to trust launch monitors and base my opinions more by on course experience. What I found was the PXG's weren't as long as my C16's, and that could be from the shaft difference. I play stiff steel shafts in my C16's and regular graphite in the PXG's. What I did find w/the PXG's was a tighter dispersion pattern and better over all consistency in my ball striking. While distance always seems great, I prefer a smaller dispersion pattern in my irons. Are they worth the money? Too me that's subjective

As to the hybrids, haven't found anyone to say the X are better than the first generation hybrids. They might feel softer with the honeycomb material, but that also depends on the shaft. It's the best looking hybrid out there if you have the game for them. But it's not as if they are demanding - just a great look at address.
