Anyone demo the G400 woods yet? Any advantage you see to upgrade from Ping G?

two of the pros at my place had their fitting. both are ping users.

one who has a ss of 103mph saw no difference other than the sound.

the other guy has a ss of 11 5mph and he saw a distance gain of 4 yards and more desirable spin and launch numbers.

both went through extensive shaft and head combo's.

also interesting is the guy with the higher ss was just about to put the epic in his bag. the g400 was enough to change that

The PING videos are pretty good if you like to hear some of the tech speak. The PING engineers also do a good job of not overselling, or over-promising, results. The G400 has a new face material that might give you a slight increase in ballspeed. Perhaps there are some slight tweaks to the design, such as the appearance of the turbulators and the placement of the back weight.

Do you think the slightly flatter sole on the fairway woods make them easier to hit for those of you who have demoed them?

Did you think switching to the different steel let you hit them farther?

I tried the G400 against my G, both using my own shaft.... little to no difference. The G400 looks and sounds better, but any performance benefit seemed negligible from the trackman numbers I saw. My SS is about 109 with driver.

Hit the new G400 fairway this morning.

My current 3-wood is the 2016 PING G series, also 3/14.5.

So, between the two models:

Turbulators on the G400 are definitely more pronounced.
Footprint of the G400 looks bigger, and it's a rounder shape somewhat (PING.com says G400 is ~12cc larger).
Sole of the G400 does look a bit flatter, but no difference hitting shots.
G400 face feels more lively, and it's louder... but no more or less pleasing to hit, just different.
Switching my own shaft between the two, performance looked pretty close... G400 maybe a shade higher, if anything.
G400 headcover much nicer, big improvement.

That's about it.

I found the fairway seamed to get in the air a bit easier. The only reason I have not gotten the G driver was the sound and size. The G400 driver sounds much better and has a hair more ball speed. So it will be in the bag shortly

The G400 SFT is the easiest fw I've ever hit. I love the round profile and have had instant confidence in limited testing. I urge those interested to try it with the Tour 75 shaft. A great combo for me.

After attending a Ping demo day recently I was told the driver is smaller than the G to improve swing speed and the fairway woods are slightly larger. Both apparently have a hotter face, with the fairway woods allowing for higher launch. The fairway woods have essentially the same bottom to sit low on the turf and allow a better contact point for higher launch. The sound is better with both. However I didn't really see much if any improvement in distance, especially with the driver, but that could be me more than the club and coming from an older club the new bulge and roll face took some time getting used to. I also demo'd the driver on the course and really didn't see much improvement until the end of the round and then only a couple of yards. Really liked the look of the driver but not sure it's going in my bag just yet. I'm sure I'll try it again though.
