The last few years ordering direct from TM usually leads to getting a club 7 to 10 days before its official release, at least that has been my experience.

Ya, I was being cheap and didn't want to pay tax!

Looks like mine are scheduled for delivery on Thursday. Giddyup! 4-AW, Recoil 110's +1".

You order direct as well??

Just demo'd these with Modus 120 and C Taper against JPX 900F PX LZ and I will say the JPX 900F feel much better.

I will agree on here that these are very low spin and they are very long. I have demo'd the JPX 900 extensively and do love them. The 790's were no where near as soft 900F's.

I will go back soon and try the 790 with the PX LZ. They sure do look good, that's for sure.

Greetings all. I am currently a 12.4 index (brought it down from a 17 through 2017). Been playing the SLDR irons for about 3 years and have really enjoyed them. I am considering the P700 series, specifically 770s or 790s. Any feedback on the contrast between these two and which might be a good jump from the SLDR irons...

Since I am a lefty it is virtually impossible to test premium clubs at any shop or course around where I live in SoCal. They basically only stock M2 and other GI irons in left handed...

Any feedback is appreciated. I do enjoy reading all the opinions and insights from the gamers on the WRX forum. Thanks

Ordered on 9/4 and just received by shipping notice, will have them by EOD on Friday, in time for Saturday's round.

I'm starting to think my choice of MCC+4 Align Grips is holding back my order. They seem to not be a choice anymore if you place an order today.

I'd ask them. I placed an order with those grips and was originally given a November date because they had production issues or something from GP which caused the backorder.. Switched grips and now have an expected ship date next week.

I have the 770's 3-P and have a 3 Iron 790 on order (but with me placing my order Sep 1st and no shipping notice yet, could be a bit) I'll give my best to give a solid 790 vs. 770 review.

Thanks... Good recaps of the experience but little in the way of comparison,,,, I actually live 2 mins from La Costa resort and played the Champions course last week.. Shot 82 which is great for me... I'll keep looking for the comparison between 770 and 790, looks like some comments below are planning to do it. They both look like great options but maybe the 790 is a little more forgiving with extra distance...

Appreciate it. Looking forward to seeing your review. You must really be excited about the 790 to consider switching from your 770s. What index do you play off and do you think the 770s have been a good fit for you, helped your game etc. Thanks

Just got off the horn with TM, the 3 Iron I ordered is a 1/2" over standard, they said they were waiting on "lighter heads" for swing weight reasons, should be ready but the 18th and ship the 20th. Bummer.

The 790 2 Iron, I tried to ask but, the little info I got (nobody knows) is late this year/early next year.

May have to pick up an M1 LIFT!

The reason I'm picking up the 790 3Iron is because I'm too impatient to wait for the 2 Iron haha. I'm just looking for a driving Iron to ditch my Hybrid. I'm in no way going to switch from the 770's anytime soon.

I'm currently a 0 HDC.

They've been a great fit for me because I'm a terrible ball striker. About 5-10 shots a round I'll either toe one or hit the bottom groove. All of these miss-hits go straight and almost on the number with these clubs. I came from 710 MB's and miss-hits on those we very costly. Example, in a tournament a few weeks ago I bottom grooved a 5 iron from 200, dead straight, middle of the green. The clubs are no joke. Posted a 70 (-2) that round (fairly easy course, very tight though). One thing, wait till the fitters have the 790's and the 770's together so you can try them at the same time. I took one swing with the 750's and didn't like it at all.

I think since you're dropping in your HDC so fast, 770 would be a great stick. Maybe a combo of 4/5 irons 790 and 6-PW 770? Heck I might do that!

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like you are really enjoying the 770s... and great round!. I think I just have to hunt for a fitter that has them in leftys. It's tough for us. I bought my last ones sight unseen on amazon since I could not find them in left handed anywhere to test... All the best.

To be honest I haven't been the biggest Taylormade fan because of their often releases but mostly because they never felt that great (To me) or there was always something that fit me better. Today I tried the 700 series along with every new set besides the 718 series. To my surprise the 770/790 beat out every single one. I really wanted to like the new Mizunos, and while they are great looking clubs the 770s felt and performed better. Later on this year I'm going to get fitted so we'll see how things go then but for someone who hasn't had a Taylormade club in his bag for 10+ years these could change all that. Very impressed.

Everyone always talks about Mizuno and how great they are, and every time I try them I just don't get it. Have also been put off by TM and their gimmicks. Guess if the 790 is a gimmick, I am the sucker it is meant for. Great forgiveness in a smaller package. Only club that I think has been similar to the 790 is the Srixon 5x5 series. I did not get along with sole of the Srixons
