Taylormade P790 Irons

Never thought i would say this but im considering a taylormade iron set

 

M1 3 iron: 16*; tour ad di 95x

P790 3, 4: 18.5*, 22*; Steelfiber i95s

P770 5, 6: 26*, 30*; steelfiber i110s

P750 7-9; 34, 38, 43; steelfiber i125s

Milled grind pw-lw: 48*, 54*, 60*; dg ti s400 black

 

That would be a solid set. Swap the graphite out with steel for me other than the long irons, and I'd try to hunt down a P790 2 UDI instead of the M1 3 iron.

 

I agree with the UDI 2. The 770 and 750 feel pretty good, I can't imagine going from that feel to hitting the M1 iron which is like hitting a rock with a boat paddle.

I dont think it would be that bad. I could honestly care less. I care more about performance

Not yet. Season is basically over for me unfortunately. Probably will go 4-AW.

Will be intetesting to see some P790 vs. 0311 series iron monitor reviews.

I believe Michael Newton golf had the 0311T about the same as the P770 and the 0311T is the shortest of the PXG 0311 series irons.

He went with PXG based upon the better feel.

The 0311T vs P790 should then see more distance from the P790, spin TBD, and feel should be a tossup.

 

I will be looking at spin differences, especially consistency, and launch height in the P790 vs. fortcoming reviews.

My 770's are 4-PW, if the 790 are much longer, should I add a 790 4 iron? Want to drop my 3 hybrid.

Ok...he said low 6000 spin with 7 iron on the P790.

Well, newton golf monitor data for the P770 and the 0311T 7 irons was low 7000!

So, like the low spin m1/2 irons.

What about launch height?

Had zero issue launching, the spin seemed to be fine on Trackman being I am not a high spin player. The shots just wanted to go straight, when I say high cut it was moving like 3-4 yards. Ed I am not sure at this point, I would say you would need to test. I plan on keeping my 2 UDI with a Mitsubishi OT shaft for off the tee. I think the 4 iron should get me 215-220 carry with this head?

To each their own. If a club looks and feels terrible, and the M1 checks both of those boxes, I would not enjoy hitting it.

To each their own. If a club looks and feels terrible, and the M1 checks both of those boxes, I would not enjoy hitting it.

I tried it and it feels fine. Some guys on tour are using it as a driving iron and one my friends (plays D2, made it to nationals) has one and loves it. So think i would be fine.

 

But once again this hypothetical situation on me ordering these because honestly i could barly afford them and i'll still rather go titleist

The P730 & P790 are the best looking TM offerings since the Tour Preferred line in 2013. I expect it will be four more years of ugliness before we see another beauty in 2021.

 

That said, I haven't been this excited to hit a TM iron since the Burner Tour.

He said he was a 17 cap...still 4 mph ball speed is really good. Also he claimed his ping were fit for him. May gain more from a proper fitting.

Yes, as shown in the chart below, the first (2) digits in the P-Family's model number indicates the blade length in millimeters, (i.e. 73, 75, 77, and 79 mm blade lengths)

I hope it is the camera, the P770 is a decent size and based on 77 vs 79mm I expected only a minor increase in overall head size. If this is legit I'm out on these.
