McIlroy fires caddie.

I'd fire his Taylormade clubs and bring back Nike!

I don't understand this, when he was with Titleist I saw him play 3 different drivers and 2 iron sets and it didn't seem to bother him. So I'm assuming it's the ball that's affecting him. Going to the Nike ball and now the Taylormade ball.

Lol I feel like it's 2013 all over again.. People said the same thing when he switched to Nike and the next year he won two majors. Can't imagine Taylormade's equipment/balls being that inferior to Nike's. Just needs time to settle in, IMO.

Seriously this TM bashing is a joke, and i am not a TM fan at all. I haven't had a TM club in years.

But lets remember that most of his clubs are irons that TM designed specifically for him. TM drivers,FW woods, and putters have had a bunch of success on tour, including the current and former number 1 players.

I would think a golfer at his level could pick up hickory shafted clubs and play well with them. I never understood they need time to get used to the new equipment. They are the same length, lie, and probably loft has his old clubs. The same shaft and grip. Heck, how much time does it take to adjust?

And, if a professional takes that long to adjust to new equipment, then one can argue that the amateur should not be switching equipment all the time as they will constantly be "adjusting".

I'm sure Rory is doing the right thing. I'm sure we are about to see a real head to head between him and Spieth . They are by miles the top two when on their respective games. You know what, I'd like to see how Rory would do linking up with Butch Harmon too

Dustin Johnson is #`1 player in the world for a reason. He has a better over all game now then Rory and I see him catching Rory and passing him in the major category. Honestly DJ has 3 wins this year and Rory doesn't even have a top 3.

Absolutely, DJ is superior talent when on.

Talent? Maybe. Brains? None. Balls? Nope. No way he wins 4 majors.

I can help but think this thread would be on about page 25 if Ferguson was still around.

I have it on good authority that Ferguson will be back soon

Seriously? hes blown that many already and now he won 1. With that hurdle cleared, you dont think he gets a pga or 2? maybe an open championship?

He's got 1 at age 33, so 4 is very unlikely. More than Rory? Laughable.

3. Rory is a very fragile person. He get's frazzled easily and it's pretty obvious. No I am not a clinical psychologist or his friend but I have played a lot of golf with some high level players and while Rory has a level of talent that is by far much better than anyone I have played with lately (sans one who has Rors number) but he let's little things bother him. Until he understands this phrase "Lions don't lose sleep over the opinion of sheep" he will not dominate. His domination that we have seen is straight up talent. The kid can play but He isn't a mental giant like Jordan, DJ, Tiger, etc. Rory does need to remember he is Rory f'ing Mcilroy.

Rory has more talent than anyone in the game except in his wedges and putting, there is no reason he shouldn't be number one in the world. I also think the ball change has had a much bigger impact on him than he thought. Anyway...Just my $.02.

Pretty good post, but DJ a mental giant? Now I've seen it all.

Actually he is when you think about the context I was framing it in. DJ isn't the smartest golfer out there but when it comes to being mentally tough the dude is cooler than the other side of the pillow. NOTHING bothers the man. I cite the US Open last year when all of us would have been a mess and he just says f it, let's win by a larger amount. So yes. DJ is a mental giant when it comes to dealing with pressure. probably one of the best ever.

Phil fires his caddie...

Lydia Ko fires 5 caddies...

...and, Joe LaCava still has a job with Tiger. Crazy.

He must just be paying him a salary.

Okay, I give.

Must be. The situation just strikes me as odd. Can't imagine TIger paying for a service he doesn't use, can't imagine LaCava content to be away from the Tour. When Phil and Bones split, I wonder if Joe was like...

LaCava has made some nice money in his career, let's just assume he hasn't squandered it. Maybe Tiger then says "Joey, I'll give you 100K a year to lay low for a bit, come see me in December when the doc clears me to swing, let's see how it goes" Joe is like suuuuuure......I'll take the year off and come shag some balls with you in December.....,

Who knows what he is paying him, but something like 100K is chicken feed for Tiger, and it would allow him to control the caddie he likes and keep him happy at the same time. Hell, it may be more, and it's just a minor business expense for Tiger.
