SW from the Iron Set: G400

I am curious how many people use the SW from the iron set vs individual Vokey-style wedges.

I am an 11hcp and currently carry a 54* and 60* Ping Glide wedge and play Ping i20's for 3-UW. I find that I use my 54* for more full (or nearly full) shots than anything else and from 100yds and in, it is strictly my 60* ES Glide wedge. I find that mis-hits are pretty penal in terms of distance with the blade-style wedge and want to minimize this as much as possible.

I will be moving over to the G400's at the end of the season and got to thinking about using the SW from the G400 set rather than buying a new 54* Glide II wedge. Considering that I am mostly hitting 70%-100% full shots with it, why not make it as forgiving as possible?

Has anyone else with similar handicaps taken this approach? Feedback?

I have the Ping G irons, 4 -SW. My wedges are the PW, UW and SW.

I find them to all be very good and also forgiving- I am a 14 HDCP, and I feel very comfortable with them.

The real question is, "What is the difference between "i/G " S wedges and Ping's Glide wedges?" For decades, I played Zing 2 irons with BeCu W and S wedges and found the sand wedge to be the most versatile and distance-controllable and dependable of any 54*/ sand wedge I've ever hit. Sand shots were automatic and stopping full shots were as well. Then I switched to forged Mizzys and also switched to Volkey 54* and 58* wedges. Loved the irons but never developed a feel for the wedges. A set of i20 irons later suggested (but, they did!) that I get a couple of newer Ping wedges - first a Tour S and then a Glide. Those two, after changing the heel grind, the performance exceeded the Vokeys, but the 54* just can't match the old Zing 2 in playability. This might be true of the "set" wedges of the G 400 irons, too, maybe? I have no means of projecting the way they'd play, but if the Zing 2 is an example, I'd give them a try. Give then a try and then provide a report - thanks.

5 hcp and long time G iron user. I just did this and got the matching G25 SW for my set.

I pretty much went through the same thought process as you did. When I broke it down, my SW was basically like my 12 iron cause with my game, I don't hit a lot of finesse shots with the SW. Because of this, I wanted as much forgiveness as possible on the full shots.

If you're still on the fence, you can alyways order your G400 SW with a sole grind to add some versatility

While I don't Game G400 irons I used to bag g25's and played the set wedges (Pw, UW, SW and LW).

I've now play Cleveland Altitude irons and use the set wedges (44/49/54). The 54* is outstanding for me. 85 yds on full shots and great on pitches too.

If they made a LW I'd Game it too.

I don't officially keep a cap but I average 82 score wise.
