Go up to Mt Mitchell Golf when it opens back up in mid April. Actually wait until it gets warmer in May or June to go there. Fun mountain course with only one uphill shot.

That’s only about an hour from me, I’ll definitely try it when it opens.

I played Reems Creek last week, and Asheville Municipal the week before.

Thanks for the recommendation!

For such an awesome area they are lacking in good public courses. When I'm in town I usually drive an hour West to play Seqoyah National.

I like the Reems Creek layout but the conditions can be awful. If I hear good reports I might give it another try when I'm there again in late March.

Is Mt Mitchel in ok shape? I played there a few different times 5-8 years ago. The greens were horrible, probably rolling at about a 3-4. I'm not exaggerating. Also they kept watering the course even though balls would plug on holes.

Nice layout though.

Conditions last week were rough.

The soggy weather didn’t help much, so I can’t hold that against them. But the bunkers were horrendous, and zero employees at the course. Only the girl at the front desk. People were jumping all over the course, and had several groups appear out of nowhere in front of me.

Probably won’t play there again anytime soon honestly.

Being from the area all my life...

Mt Mitchell is eh. Like said earlier, slowest greens ever.

Grassy Creek in Spruce Pine is usually same conditions as Reems Creek. Worked at GC for year. Fun easy lay out. Most of the holes are wide open.

Reems Creek always a fan of the course lay out. Just kinda different so it's fun.

Mt Glenn in Avery county is a very very good course that doesn't get any credit due to the private courses in the area.

Black Mountain is meh never been in very good shape when I've been there and has a couple holes I just hate.

Marion Lake Club short course but fun I think par is 70ish maybe lower. Best friend has the course record there in the 50s I believe. It's worth playing once to see if you like it.

Linville Falls? They change the name so many times. Decent track. Probably the tighest of the courses around.

Asheville Muni. Just a fun fun course. The front 9 is a blast to play. The back gets a little tight but if you're in Asheville and don't wanna drop a lot then it's the place to go.

Now last but my favorite. Maggie Valley! Worked there for a year and the front 9 is my favorite 9 holes probably anywhere. The back gets tough going up and down the mountain.

Looking to play more golf this summer so we all will have to get together! Still gotta get up with TUT at some point!

Hey Devin! I'll be there March 22-25 but like usual I will be super busy and golf will be last minute TBD.

Great list, thanks, that helps a lot.

Just moved to Weaverville a few months ago, and still don’t know any of the courses really.

Played Black Mountain yesterday, probably won’t go back lol. Can’t blame them for how soggy the course was, but the layout was odd, and some of the holes didn’t even have proper tee boxes. However, it was only $10 to walk, and I was the first and only one there at 8:30 lol

I’ll defintely try Maggie Valley next time I get out.

If Baker is still the pro at Reems Creek I know him pretty well.

Forgot the biggest nicest course I worked at for some reason...

Linville Ridge.. built on top of a mountain. Literally. Old tale saying two Jewish men I believe weren't allowed on Grandfather to play so they said they would build a course that looked down on them. Never found out if it was totally true or not but seems believable because of how strict Grandfather was for years and years.

By far the nicest and well ran course I've ever been a part of. Comes with a steep steep price. Don't actually know if anyone can play it other than people living there.

Greens were lightning and smooth as can be. Fairways were perfect with the tees! We even collected grass clippings from the fairways. It was unbelievable the shape we kept the course in.

Members called ahead into the pro shop and the carts were stocked with whatever they wanted. Balls gloves drinks snacks anything. It was unreal.

Never forget a member was walking thru the woods, I stopped and talked to him, said he was playing awful and I gave him a ride to his house, opened his garage up and had about 5-6 old benz and Porsche cars. Gave me 40 bucks for giving him a ride home!

Broadmoor was gorgeous. First course up here I’ve played that was actually green lol.

They allow walking, but only after 3:00...and randomly on especially slow days.

I was the first one out at 8:00 today, and really enjoyed it. Best layout, smooth fast greens, and really nice fairways. Defintely will be going back.

The man was Raymond Lutgert from Naples, FL and the story is true.
