The Resorts World Catskill casino has been built on the front nine of the monster course.

A new nine & orginal nine course is called "Adelaar". Was scheduled to open this summer before construction was halted http://adelaarny.com

There was also talk of stopping construction before the sale in Aug. 2019 to minority Empire Resorts owner Kien Huat.

"Empire Resorts adds that its current financial situation and majority of cash flow being directed to creditors could result in a reduced ability to further invest in the property, and obtain additional funding. The course was being built by Ress Jones “five sets of tees, different lengths, challenge different players, but it’s going to be as easier course to play, to get around,”

To make the Monster more playable, holes from both the current Monster Golf Course and the Old International Course will be used, with a new cart path,

“Some of the technology is rather old. Some of the components don’t work in terms of the drainage pipes, irrigation, cart paths, even the greens. All that is going to be rebuilt and brought up to today’s standards,” a new clubhouse and a drainage system.

“The golf course is going to be playable every day, even after a rainstorm event, people will be able to get out there and enjoy it,” said Swanson.

“It’ll be a very, very different course in many irrespective, but still have some of the old visual feel and look of the old monster,” said Lies. “Blend it in with the nature. We’ll have the manicure fairways. We’ll also be introducing some native areas, blending all of it together,” Swanson said. My wife has us going to a summer rental for a week in Long Eddy, NY. Not sure if this is considered the Catskills but I’m having a heck of a time finding golf. So far Villa Roma seems my best choice. Any ideas? Id be very thankful of tips or advice in that part of NY.

Would be a 45min drive from where you are staying but Tarry Brae is a nice hidden gem type of course. Nice layout and the course is usually in good condition.

Not many options up in that area since Grossinger's and the Monster closed down.

I played Villa Roma. For $50 it was fine. Conditions were ok, tees shaggy. Greens slow, very soft, and almost a Lush layer of carpet, not the Poa Bent mix I’m used to. Maybe Bermuda? Seems like a weird choice up here.

Layout starts out bland but some cool, fun holes. The par 3s are excellent. can tell it’s seen better days, which seems about right for the entire region. I’d have played again if I had another day or two up here.

I know this is an old post, but I'm surprised no one suggested Tennanah Lake Golf Course. It's 20 minutes from Long Eddy
