Best Utility Irons?

What's the best utility iron out there in the market right now?

I currently have a Mizuno MP-H5 2 iron and King utility 3 iron. As much of a Mizuno fan I am, honestly have to say I prefer the King Utility. With the Myloft adjustment @ 18 degrees it's a 2 iron in my bag.

I'm still a huge fan of the Adams DHY in this category, regardless of it's age. Both versions had solid stock shaft options.

Admittedly a smart-a answer. But modern driving irons have lower lofts and longer shafts then corresponding iron numbers and most all driving irons are now numbered with their corresponding hybrid number. E.g., A driving iron marked 4 is really a 3 iron in loft and shaft length(at least). Clearly a sign that driving irons have crossed the line into the hydrid realm.

 

Regardless, if you're an MP player, you gotta wait for the new MP-18 MMC Fli-Hi to come out. I'd like to be the first cool kid on the block with shiny new Fli-Hi 3. You can bet when people ask what I'm hitting, I'll be saying "a 2 iron" :)

Srixon U65. I hit the 3-20º with the stock (in Europe) Miyazaki Kaula 7 and was really impressed. Almost as long and more forgiving on miss toes (my normal miss) than my 915H 18º. I am planning to change my bag setup to make some room for a couple of these. Probably 18º and 23º bent to 22º

The MP-H5 is most definitely a driving iron. Heck, they make a 1 iron!!

Sorta depends on the role.

 

My ping 3 crossover is only 5 yards shorter than my 3 wood and easier to hit. It's now my longest club after driver. 3 wood was a waste of a club for me. It's crazy long. Low spin and runny. It had a steelfiber 95

 

My t-mb 3 iron looks like a MB, feels springy, but plays like my other long irons in terms of distance true to loft. I played it as a true 3 iron. It has a ctaper x.

 

There are a lot of good ones, and MPH5 is for sure on that list.

The ping 3 crossover has a super hot face and runs forever. I didn't really see the positive effects of the club until I re-shafted it with the C-Taper S+. Just a night and day difference with the heavier shaft. It's now my go to club off the tee when driver is too much.

I absolutely adore my Ping Rapture DI. I tweaked it a bit and added lead tape, but when struck right it feels gorgeous, is forgiving, and goes a country mile. The looks at address are exactly what I'm looking for out of a utility iron as well. Not super common to come across now though, and only come in 18*, had mine bent to 20* though.

Does it have to be new? My favourite is the Epon 901. 2nd are the Mizuno fly-hi. Had the 3 and 4 shafted with very rare Exsar 105g x flex shafts. Awesome DI's.

Yes very interested to hit the new MP-18 SC, MMC, and Fli-Hi.

The MP-H5's are great sticks...would like to see how they match up vs the new Fli-Hi.
