Can you flop a D off tighter lies like you can with a L grind? Is the D grind similar to a M grind on flop shots?

I've always had an L because I can't get under the ball on really firm lies with M even. The D is the highest in the progression. All three are essentially the same grind just with different levels of bounce. (That was what the fitter at TPI told me atleast)

I've had no luck with M grind on a tight lie personally. Looking for a 60 I can flop and leaning toward L grind. The 56 M grind is priceless though!!

I found it significantly easier for me to open up an S-grind and hit a flop than to use an M, D, K, OR L grind.

The grinds are a very personal thing as it depends the way you open the face and the way you hit through the shot makes a huge difference in which grind works for you or not; even when i open the face i still strike the ball pretty central (slightly towards the toe) but one of my playing partners hits the toe of the wedge with the face open very successfully as he's got a great touch, Everyone's different.

I played Vokeys up until 2016. I got Glide 2.0 to blend into my iBlades early 2017. I never got along with them fully...inconsistent for me, didn't like how they felt on touch shots around the green, didn't like the turf interaction...loved my gap wedge as it felt like an extension of the iBlades.

Switched to Mizuno irons this winter...and the Glide wedges just looked goofy next to them. Played my SM7 wedges last Friday for the first time...it's good to be back. Absolutely love them. Got 52/08 F (bent to 51), 56/10 S, and 60/08M. Short game instantly feels improved...love the response on the wedges. At address, you can't see the thickness of the lob wedge on the top because it's kind of a bevelled edge. I got Tour Chrome and I think it looks great. Would prefer the raw finish, but didn't want to buy the black and DIY them.

Thoughts on bagging 54m 58d and 60l? My short game suffers without a low bounce wedge but need more bounce and loft for sand. Also love versatility of m grind for all around chipping. I will just lay up to 110 yards or closer.

If the 60L is anything like the SM6 it'll be a super star, i love that wedge.

I'd go 48.10F, 52.08F, 56.10S and 60.04L all bent 1deg strong, i just dislike that the 48 has 10deg bounce now instead of 8 as 10 on a normal PW is high. Exactly what i have now in SM6 but my 48 has 8deg bounce (or 47.07F, 51.07F, 55.09S, 59.03L when bent).

Nice one, has anyone who's gamed them upgraded from SM6 and noticed a big difference in ball flight due to the change of where the weight is? Apparently a higher flight is expected, i've had a play with them on the LM and didn't notice anything major but until your on the course hitting different shots it's hard to tell plus the ones i tried has s200s (Wedge flex) and i have PX6.0 in my SM6s.

Had the same lineup probably since college.

I thought while I was down to TPI in December we might switch it up, but there wasn't any point. My short game sucks no matter I use.

So has no one who's gaming SM7 got any feedback on them over the SM6 i.e. ballflight; is it higher etc ?

Bump! Plus how does the spin compare?

Well my 4 Raw SM7s have arrived.

Had a lovely FaceTime conversation with them and they are looking great - now just got to wait three weeks before I get to meet them in person.

Funny thing is my GF is e they arrived two days ago and I forgot to tell you.

To be over honest. They’re wedges. How many times have you hit one and gone omg that’s different? Not exactly like there’s any tech. I didn’t notice any differnce and was told they’re basically the same thing anyway. The only thing that was different I was squeezing about 1.5 more yards on my PW and GW. The only reason I can accurately track that is cause I have a trackman. I don’t think you’d ever notice anything unless it’s in your head from a flight standpoint.

Is everyone just getting a D grind cause it's a new offering? I've literally never seen anyone that plays it on tour or anyone that I know from web/mini's.

I have had a 60 D grind in the bag for a couple of rounds now. It is extremely versatile, including out of the sand.

I've got two rounds on my D grind as well. I've played the K grind for years and love it out of the bunkers, but not so much on shots around the green or full shots. I've played 2 rounds with the D grind on a course with tight Bermuda lies and so far I love it. I was able to open it up and hit flop shots when needed with no problem, and "full" shots from the fairway were fine. I'll need to practice a little bit more with it for bunker shots, but I was able to hit perfectly acceptable sand shots with it.

Not sure why there is such consternation about people trying the D grind. I don't really care what the guys on Tour are playing. I'm not a Tour player, I can't hit a low bounce LW out of the sand. The D grind seems like a good compromise between the M and K grind for a 6 hcp like me. Time will tell - I always have my K grind to fall back on.

For those that have read Stan Utley's book, the D grind appears to be very similar to what he was using when the book was written (a 58-12 with the same grind shape).

Three weeks ago, I swore (often and loudly) that I would never again own a wedge with more than 56 degrees of loft. I now have a couple of practice sessions, a couple of multiple ball 9 hole practice rounds, and a regulation 18 hole round on a 58D. It is simply awesome. As easy as a K grind from the sand and very solid around the green. I'll probably stick with the 54F for anything outside of about 50 yds but as a short game club, the D grind is the cat's pajamas.

The courses in my neck of the woods are generally soft and the aprons are never cut bikini wax tight but I have managed to find a couple of bare spots while practicing and didn't have any trouble from the extra bounce.

I picked up my set today - Went with the Brushed Steel

52.08

56S

60m

they look / feel amazing. They feel better than SM6 no doubt. the m grind is great. Enough bounce but still able to flop no problem. Probably use the 56s from the sand but well see as the season starts....

Picked up a New Futura 5W as well. Bag is all set.

2024 Bag TBD

For those that have the D Grind- how is it for flops off of firm turf? The Titleist site suggest this grind is better for soft conditions but wonder if that's pigeonholing it?

It's simply got a little more bounce. If you're used to an M or L it's going to seem difficult to open up. If you had a K might seem awesome for open faced shots.

I could never use the D grind as i would never buy a wedge with that much bounce, but as for saying a wedge is a wedge above; titleist completely moved the weight around on the SM7 so it should have an impact.

Might buy one SM7 just to try out and see.

What's crazy is everyone keeps saying they are the same as the Sm6s.

Just go find a spot thatll let you demo a few and hit the same shots side by side.

I had SM4s, then TM, and now SM7s so sadly I can't compare them to the 6s, though the fitter I went to told me they were identical to the 6s in terms the CG thing...

After hitting the different grinds, I only wish they offered a D grind in the 56. Love the D in 60.

^^^ This x10...

I have considered getting a black SM6 56F, stripping it, and breaking out some files in an attempt to make my own. However, it appears visually that the sole isn't quite as wide on the 56F as it is on the 58D.
