Midline Cracks with Srixon Z-Star XV

Anyone else had the same issue with Srixon Z-Star XV cracking around the midline? For the price of a premium ball I would expect better?

Yea has always happened me with zstars after about 18 holes.

 

Still my ball of choice though.

I played the older XV and it was the most durable premium ball I've used.

That's not good. I tried them for the first time today and I like them, however I'm not sure they'll replace my old standard ball.

That is bizarre. I would definitely contact them. I've never seen that. Seen plenty of golf balls break open after repeated usage in a hitting bay but never just the cover.

I've played the last thee versions of the Z-Star without issue, but only swing @100mph.

Same here, gone thru about 50 dozen this year playing tournaments and haven't seen that before. Honestly it's a crazy durable ball

This - and if you play yellow you can play 3 rounds and the ball will still look pretty good. I have actually been more worried abound roundness after hitting trees and cartpaths more than scuffs or cuts.

Like others have said, had it happen after 20 holes or so. After reading so much about the durability I was curious and asked their customer service if this was typical. They said 'no' and sent a couple sleeves my way for my trouble. Great ball and great customer service.

Yellow Z Stars are the most durable ball ever made. They could be dropped in the lava pits of Mount Doom and still be playable. Unfortunately they never last a full round where I play as the crows love em so I don't play them.

Happened to me consistently with Z-Star XV 2016.

 

I haven't logged precisely when this occured though, but it was most likely one of the 3 below :

- wild off the tee (trees)

- cart path encounter(s)

- after 18 holes.

 

I must underline that I noticed this happening several times.

Used to happen to me all the time with the yellow ZStar XVs the winter before last. Freaked me out and I stopped playing them because of that issue.

I have had it happen consistently with both white and yellow Z Stars. I shot my best round ever (70 on par 72) with a ball showing nearly the same wear.

It's been happening to me since I switched to them. Usually get at least 9-12 holes before I notice it. I have a bag of my used tournament balls that I use for chipping. I might contact Srixon and see if they think it is an issue. Usually just continue to use it after I notice it and haven't had a problem

These are a couple pics of the most recent balls I played.. after looking closer I wonder if they would just split apart eventually. I did play a Taylormade until it cracked in half before so I suppose it could be the same type of thing.

Not to bring back an old thread but I have had 2 2017 XV's crack on me in the past week. Hopefully this isn't an issue with the 2019 balls, I have 8 dozen in the closet waiting to be used. Mine have been a little more severe than the pics above, they actually split open about half way around the ball, oddly enough right inline with the alignment mark on the ball.

Not getting cracks but on the z star, z star xv, and q star Tour I always get what appears to be a wear spot on the ball, which appears to be around the seam.

I have used Z Stars and Z Star XV since the 2013 version. I currently have 8 dozen of the 19 XV and 1-2 dozen of some 2015 Z Stars. I have had this happen on every generation. It is much more pronounced on the yellow balls in my case. In the earlier generations, 2013-2015, the seams would show up like this but always be straight around the circumference. They were never lined up either so the seams would be through the logos sometimes and sometimes they would not. In 2017 they went to a different kind of mold where the seams are more in a zigzag like in the pictures. I love the ball and the peformance and always hoped they would fix this. After 4 generations they have not but its not stopping me from playing them. As long as they keep running BOGOs and $10 6-packs I will keep using them. Makes it much more affordable to switch balls when I notice this. I spoke to the rep when he came to our course for a ball fitting and he informed me this is the seam in the mold. Not just making the seam comment up.

With both balls I have cracked this week, it’s not just the cover, it’s the inner part of the ball that is cracked as well.

Like awtryau89 said, it won’t stop me from playing them as the price is just too good. If I was playing competitively I would have second thoughts.

I just switched to zstar yellow, coming from bridgestone b330s. Every zstar ball that I have used so far has had the crack along the seam.

Hmmh.. been playing the XV since it was the X ball, I've never seen this cracking but it may be I just the lose the balls. However, I've had 36 holes with my XV 6 ball and it's in pretty good shape. Clipped a branch or two, no cart path but the cover is still pretty nice, considering. Thanks for the headsup nonetheless

I just looked at my stash of Z star/Xv and a lot of them have the "crack" along the equator. I personally have not noticed performance issues but I also haven't seen this with any of the other balls I game. Chromesoft, B X/XS, Pro V1. For reference mine are all from the '17 5th generation.

Do you have any pics? I have a stash of 17's as well.
