Forgotten Golf Manufacturers

Tom Stewart, James Gourlay, William Gibson... Too far back?

I am sad about John Letters. I thought the newer stuff could have been really good if they hadn't had such a rubbish logo. I keep a master model SW next to the bed to fend off burglars in the night.

Has anyone said Simmons? I saw a set of tiger sharks at the car boot sale yesterday.

I remember a few putters such as Inugo, Teardrop, pool putter and one made out of glass, the name of which escapes me.

Harold Swash's Align and then Yes!.

Maruman, Swilken, Fila, Petron, Regal, Progen, Hippo, Howson, Masters, Liquidmetal, Feel,

I'll start with Sounder. Apparently made a nice forging. Seve used their blades.

I started with this exact same set 2-pw and Toney Penna woods and a Wilson 8813 putter. Eventually moved into Ram irons, another forgotten classic, with Tom Watson wedges. Love the Pennas to this day. Made a double eagle with the 4 wood.

I know Founders Club have been mentioned, and that brought back memories of me having a set of the Forged 200 blades and the Tour CB back in the early 2000's back when I actually had a consistent enough golf swing. I played my irons all of the way down to a 2-iron, as well. If I tried that now I would shatter my wrists after approx 3 balls.

Still have this gem in my basement.

Don't think anyone said Maxfli, their Revolution and Australian blades were excellent.

Weren't they made by Ralph Maltby?

The 97 Aussie Blades were designed by Maltby, but the Revolution irons and the last iteration of Aussie Blades were not.

Ram has already been mentioned, but I'm mentioning them again. Because they're Ram. Still flying the flag :pimp:

I knew this was you without even seeing your avatar.

I almost snagged a set of Ram TG898's the other day but did not want to fool with re-shafting them and bending them and making them fit me.

Besides...I'm murdering the MacGregors.

How about Atrigon? They came out with a one piece Graphite driver that the shaft and head were all one piece. They signed Nick Price and went out of business before they even got to market.

Kunnan is another one that had a similar one piece driver and sold some descent lower end stuff.

Scratch Golf? (too soon?)

Tourswing. They make shafts still but no longer make driver heads. I'm disappointed them and SMT aren't around anymore because I liked the fact they offered smaller driver heads.

My first set, Swilken blades.

Orlimar

Still use the 3W. I filled it with foam..lol.

This is how they were marketed....

..."The Orlimar TriMetal fairway wood features a stainless steel head with an Alpha-Maraging face that is harder than titanium. It also has copper-tungsten weighting in the sole to provide optimal trajectory. The result is a high, long ball flight."

.

.

Some TaylorMade guru must have been reading my older posts..... and now Taylormade are calling it "speed-foam"...lol..what a load of s**t.

Ping G410+ Tensei Orange Pro.

Are Never Compromise putters still made?

I still have an original Voodoo from around 2002 or 03. Gift from my wife for our anniversary so not going to part with it. Don't recall seeing too many of them around anymore.

When my grandma passed and we were going through old clubs in the garage, we found a full set of Henry griffits. As much as I've been exposed to clubs and golf over 30 years I had never once heard of them.

A quick search shows they are to this day still in business though, so I guess they are more boutique and less forgotten.

Somebody mentioned ZT too, I remember those guys, I actually had a buddy who introduced me to the guy that supposedly created ZT, but the whole situation seemed kind of weird and I'm not sure the guy was on the up and up, he definitely was peddling the clubs like the next big thing though.

Just because the USA "forgets" something doesn't mean the world has. Just ask Madness or Dexys Midnight Runners.

Remember Maruman clubs???

They have a pretty comprehensive line - http://www.maruman.c.../eng2/products/

Oh and Daiwa and Yamaha used to make clubs too back in the day....

A number of people have posted Daiwa and Yamaha.

Daiwa's current OnOff brand is pretty popular. I've owned them myself. Excellent irons. http://www.onoffgolf.eu/

Yamaha - far from gone or forgotten - http://global.golf.yamaha.com/en/

I seem to recall some pre-sales on their irons selling out on a certain import site...

Yamaha & Yonex still making great clubs as well as Macgregor

Daiwa also have Fourteen Golf and still make clubs under the Daiwa name the Glll or G3 model.

Never Compromise bought out by SRI/Dunlop (Srixon/Cleveland/XXIO). They stop making Never Compromise a couple of years ago to allow Cleveland to have part of their focus on Putters!

Were Atrigon and Goldwin one in the same, or is that another company Nick Price was involved with?

Can't believe both Never Compromise and Yes! putter brands haven't been resurrected by their respective owners. Having a separate brand for your line of putters has worked well for Titleist (Scotty) and Callaway (Odyssey & now Toulon).

Do TM own the rights to Yes! after they bought adams?

The DP-40 blades were great clubs. The HT was the best ball around in the early 90's.
