Planning a birthday trip to San Antonio in late October. If I could only choose ONE course to play at, what would it be? I heard good things about the Quarry, although price tag seems pricy.

If you want something historic and classic San Antonio can’t go wrong with Brackenridge. It’s a tillinghast and always a fun loop.

Due to cost and reputation, I think Canyon Springs is my current choice for a birthday golf trip. (Thank you to CCTxGolf for the Brackenridge recommendation - we are coming from Austin so opted for a place a little closer). Anyone play Canyon Springs recently - conditions still as good as their reputation?

I played there maybe 2 months ago and it was in pretty good condition. It was my first time out there and I found the course pretty enjoyable.

It is usually in good shape. When is your birthday trip?

2021 non-resident (outside of 75 miles) was $10k plus tax and $495 a quarter.

Not sure about resident pricing although I am sure it’s more. Prob make that $495 monthly and multiply the initiation by two or three.

I think this has gone up and the cart fee is raising to $50 for them I believe.

Local membership is on waitlist and the next opening is soft slated April, so get on the waitlist now.

I think the initiation is going to be in the 40k range with 740 monthly

Dormie does everything it can to dissuade local ships

Yup, if you are looking to play 50+ rounds at your home club and have home games Dormie / Briggs isnt it.  That said if you are looking to play 10-20 rounds at your home club and bring a foursome each time, and travel to the other network courses dormie could be a great fit.  Courses / hospitably are great.

I agree 100%. Traveling to Dormie courses with a Dormie friend of mine has been fantastic but that being said, getting  to most of them is a trek. They really cater hard to the super rich with private air travel that can get them closer to their courses.

Briggs and Arbor could be the most accessible, Hidden Creek could be  but they still have a huge local membership because there really isn't anywhere else for those locals to go is my understanding.

I don't think that is a fair characterization.

Dormie Club is 50 minutes from RDU, one of the easiest airports to get in and out of I've ever flown to. And in combo with Pinehurst area makes it a huge advantage to have a "home base" when traveling in the area

Ballyhack is 15 minutes from the Roanoke airport, which most of the major US carriers fly into

Victoria National is probably in the smallest town of all of them but is still pretty accessible.

Briggs and Arborlinks are super easy to get to and all the major carriers fly into San Antonio and Omaha.

Hidden Creek is about an hour from Philly.

Fair enough, I do not necessarily disagree but the flight times have not always been ideal for the schedule we want so we have had to fly into CLT and drive to Bally and Dormie to make things work. A product of my own circumstance, sure.

Very much depends upon where you are flying from Philly is the only one I would consider a large airport, so getting directs to the others is challenging.  If you just want to do a long weekend trip non directs are a big time sink.  Not saying it can't work as a commercial flyer but they are very much trying to target the private jet demographic.  Just look at where GrayBull is being built and TX0

Heading to SA the first weekend of March with some buddies. Thinking of playing brackenridge, quarry and la cantera or canyon springs. Yall have any other suggestions? Staying at an Airbnb so tpc SA is out of the question.

Dump La Cantera for the Bandit if not too far out of the way.

haven't heard recently but La Cantera had some bad conditions a few months back...I'm sure someone like JBird can give a recent update.
